Politics / There's talk of a general election!
« Last post by Sorastro on March 17, 2024, 01:19:17 PM »
With rumblings about calls for a general election sooner than later you have to ask yourselves the one and only vital question:-
"Will I be better off with the other lot in power, I mean REALLY better off?" to claim you won't be any worse off may be true but that's not the answer, the Parliamentary revolving doors has gone on long enough it's just one big game to M.P.'s.

Lets face it for decades now the two main parties have been in and out of power numerous times and at the end of the day the voter has never seen any significant change [for the better} in their lives. Everyone knows that what's given with one hand is usually taken with the other, yes I think we can agree, those of us of a certain age, we are a lot better off than our parents and grandparents were but just look around, food banks, homelessness, poverty, N.H.S. crisis, rubbish roads, filthy rivers the list goes on and for one of the richest nations on earth in the 21st century these Dickensian problems are not exactly a ringing endorsement to elect any of them back into power.

As I've explained before I no longer vote, why? because I'm waiting for someone or some party worth voting for, that will break this cycle, which means a hell of a long wait as far as I'm concerned, the last time I saw the inside of a polling station voting on a general election I voted for Labour led by Harold Wilson, that's how long I've been waiting. If Labour get in next time yes you will see some improvement no doubt but just like the last lot and those before they will just end up painting over the cracks and at the end of their 5 year stint they will be in the same position the Tories are in now convincing us their doing a good job and to re elect them and the cycle will continue.

Sent off a letter to D.T. for the letters page about a month ago, I'd given up on it till I saw it had been printed in this last issue.

Won't make an 'aporth of difference but I got it off my chest.

Problem solved.

Went to Argos and bought the same model, plugged it in using the same {new} cartridges out of the old printer...still the same.
Ergo the only common denominator between the two must be the cartridges, the new cartridges supplied with the new printer I put into my old printer "EUREKA"

Been buying these cartridges years and never had any trouble so didn't dawn on me it could be them, from now on genuine cartridges for my TWO printers.

P.S.  Emailed cartridge company explaining above.

It's inkjet smithy and I've only just replaced the cartridges, and Fly I just write out my letters on this Acer Chromebook laptop and use this to print them, never had the problem till recently and it's got worse.

I did look up the prices of new and even though they are listed as wireless in their Q&A's section it was mentioned you can still use a lead if preferred.

Before this Canon I had a basic H.P. printer, I've had this printer about 3 years now and the H.P. I'd had for the best part of 15 years and I got rid of it only last year as it was very slow at printing.

Is it an ink jet printer? How often do you use it? I reckon ink jets need to be used often....which is why I use laser printers these days...

What software are you using to write the letters. I'm just wondering if stray 'Newline' characters are getting inserted into your documents?

Tagging onto this post I am having a slight problem with my printer, every time I print out a letter for example there are evenly spaced white lines running through parts of the text. I don't want to mess with it as I don't know how serious {or easily} the problem can be fixed and I don't want to blow myself up!

I was thinking of ringing up someone in town that services them but I've no idea what he charges or is likely to charge, anyway looking online I can get a brand new one for under £35 unfortunately they all seem to be wireless and I prefer wired.

I just wonder if anyone out there has a quick fix solution without me having to strip it down, I've looked on you tube and everyone seems to have a different solution.

Please give me a nudge if you come again.
As a by the way I've emailed the committee tk see if they want me to arrange for him to come again and speak about his other book. Watch this space as it would be an extra meeting this year.
Oh yes 2050 is suspicious- definitely!
