This has been an on and off issue for a few years. It works, then it doesn't.
I really don't know why.

Rants / Re: Pothole repairs!
« Last post by Old Cruser on January 17, 2024, 01:37:16 PM »
I've been round our village and although there are some potholes there's nothing as bad as some I've seen.
I've been following the Langer lane saga. On Saturday i went that way to miss road works which were peppered along the route I needed to drive.
The work had been started  --- and left - leaving a long stretch of road with raised iron works. Cars were zigzagging to miss them. My other concern was that at night there apparently isn't much lighting in place terrible!

Most of this countries woes can be attributed to the fact we no longer have our own manufacturing base.

The troubles with cargo ships in the Suez canal...the troubles with Russia are just part of why we are struggling. We no longer manufacture goods here for our own internal market, we have to rely too much on imports and that isn't good.
Once upon a time we and our products were the envy of the world, we exported far more than we imported safe in the knowledge it was top class merchandise, and what we did import was vital, when was the last time you shopped and picked a product with the British kite mark on?
We are now relying on cheap Eastern imports, most of which {especially electrical goods} are turning out to be cheaply made and dangerous the vast percentage of our gas and electric comes from abroad especially with electric we are pumping millions into a French electric company to build nuclear power stations here and very little building work is being done, one site I believe is 15 years in the making and is still far from complete, even the solar panel farms we erect in our fields are made abroad.
Even our national bus company {Stagecoach} is German owned, same with the water companies owned by foreign companies.

We need to go back to manufacturing our own goods and start showing the world we can still be a force to be reckoned with. The British brand has been diluted so many times over the past sixty odd years it's no longer recognisable.

Start producing BRITISH cars, white goods other electrical goods etc. stop relying on foreign imports, if it could be produced here don't import it.

Hopefully one day ----------

Chesterfield Discussion / Rouge traders

Hi. Looking for some advice about rouge traders/scammers operating in our area. What’s the best way to make the community aware of them so they don’t get scammed or is there a way to report them to someone like the council?

Some context - paid a tradesman and they’ve not done the work and won’t return the money

I don't care about tabloid news just as long as  the work carries on in the background  to get the compensation and clear their  names.

General Discussion / Losing weight
« Last post by Sorastro on January 13, 2024, 07:42:55 PM »
I have had occasion to watch adverts for a well known weight loss club on t.v. Whilst the advert is on, along the bottom of the screen is obviously examples of individual weight loss and time taken and the one that caught my eye was "2 stone in 220 months".

In English that's 28 lbs in just over 4 YEARS!!! you do the maths but I've lost more weight than that just wiping the sweat from my brow.

It seems there are people out there with absolutely no willpower of their own, this is why slimming clubs pop up and people pay to be told the obvious to eat healthier and exercise more, same with gyms.

Update There is now a petition for Alan Bates to get a recognition for his hard work over the years to get thus sorted out

Apparently O.C. he WAS going to be given an honour but turned it down because of Vennells having one.

As I pointed out about what's happening in Europe mainly between Israel and Gaza and Ukraine, a certain thing will only stay to the fore until another "incident" takes it's place. I guarantee that within a couple of months the Horizon scandal will be relegated to a small paragraph on page 20 of your local rag and another "scandal" will have taken it's place.
