Politics / Nice work if you can get it
« on: October 06, 2023, 08:24:14 PM »
It is alleged:-
One member of Parliament who doesn't live a million miles away from Derbyshire gets {as their M.P.'s salary} £86:584 annually, they are also on their local County council which rakes in another £15:894 p/a. Plus as they have "special responsibilities" on the council that entitles them to a further {allowance} of £37:275 p/a making their pockets bulge to the tune of £139 and a half grand per year, that doesn't include the ten grand a year + they, as M.P.'s all get for expenses.

Reminds me of that saying....."Rich men go into politics, others go into politics to get rich".

I honestly think that the amount of money that filters through the houses of Parliament each year would dwarf the cost of HS2!!!!!

General Discussion / "Killer" dogs
« on: September 12, 2023, 02:22:40 PM »
Well yet another breed of dog on the dangerous dogs list, but what will it actually achieve?

Many years ago we all thought Dobermanns and Rottweilers were bad enough, and they were {and still are} but they seem to be pussycats compared to this new breed of "death" dog now infiltrating the country. How are these breeds allowed to get a foothold in this, or any other country, they only serve one purpose and that is to guard a drug dealer and his stash, or wannabe hardmen, what happens to the innocent bystander should they get in the way of these vicious animals, they wouldn't stand a chance.

We need to immediately go back to dog licences {popular or unpopular is not the issue} these should contain information on the breed and moreover where it came from. This should prevent any person owning such an animal and the dog they may own in it's place would be registered {and FULLY insured} and penalties for owning breeds like these killer dogs should mean automatic massive fines followed by a compulsory prison sentence.

Politics / To school or not to school, that is the question!
« on: September 03, 2023, 12:26:51 PM »
The fiasco over schools has finally caught up with the government. Two days before term time starts many schools will not be able to open as they are classed as dangerous.

The government have known about this for years, and it's not just the Tories, this subject has been on the books, in different guises, as far back as the early nineties so Labour has no need to crow about it. Most of these schools, that were built in the 50's and early 60's, were known to have a limited shelf life of about 30 to 40 years from the get go, so no one party is totally blameless but unfortunately now the brown stuffs hit the fan the Tories are the ones in power and left to sort it, so we'll just have to see just how good they are between now and the next election............the clocks ticking.

Fun Stuff / Lads night out
« on: August 12, 2023, 09:01:44 PM »
I have never understood why lads and men {of all shapes and sizes} go out of an evening wearing football jerseys!
You wouldn't go out in your overalls at night, unless you've JUST finished work, or that's the only clothes you possess.
Professional footballers don't go out at night with a football jersey on and they PLAY football, to them it's overalls, they would sooner watch some overweight wannabee splash out for one then walk round in it giving the clubs sponsor free advertising.

I like the music of Mozart but I wouldn't go out wearing knee length breeches and a powdered wig.

And it's not as though these shirts are cheap {unless it's a knock off} and most of the time clubs change their "strip" so an ardent fan is constantly shelling out for them.

Politics / The whitest of white elephants
« on: August 12, 2023, 11:50:52 AM »
It all started in 2010, some bright visionary thought up HS2  this miracle of the age was very quickly approved and fully costed at £31 billion {a hefty some even then}

By the time 2015 came round HS2 was already beset by many problems, with calls for it to be scrapped, these calls were ignored and it was re costed to about £57 billion.

Now in 2023 and not even half completed it has had another audit and the new sum is £97 billion {and counting} if by some miracle they could complete it without more problems the total bill will be somewhere in the region of £106 billion.
Monetarily it will take the country DECADES to recoup the money even before anyone sees any benefit. Just think how they could have improved the WHOLE of Britain's rail system with only half that amount.

Politics / Bibby Stockholm barge
« on: August 08, 2023, 01:48:14 PM »
Well asylum seekers are starting to be loaded onto the barge, about 50 today but it sounds like they have a mutiny on their hands already as some are refusing to go aboard.
I'll give it a month before there's a death on there.

Sport / Olympics Paris 2024
« on: July 26, 2023, 10:34:15 AM »
I must be hallucinating, I could have sworn I saw on the news the other day that a "new sport" is to be introduced to the 2024 Olympics.

BREAKDANCING.. because that's all it is.......what's next, synchronized nose picking. relay shoplifting.

I don't watch the Olympics anyway but there's even less incentive to start watching it.

Sport / Clare Boring!!!
« on: July 11, 2023, 11:25:18 AM »
Is it me or is Clare Balding like dog sh*t, she's everywhere, she's never off the screens. Every sport event or programme she's there and now she's taken over from Sue Barker introducing Wimbledon {which I knew was going to be a mistake} I've read that Wimbledon watchers are far from impressed with her, and yes you've guessed it I don't like her.

I think the B.B.C. should try and woo Sue Barker back for next year and by the looks of it {if she does} she can write her own ticket.

General Discussion / Titanic tourist sub
« on: June 20, 2023, 12:28:42 PM »
I know it's early days but it's not looking good.

It took YEARS to locate the Titanic and look at the size of it, they are now searching in the same area for something about the size of a family saloon, even then the recovery {once the sub is hopefully found} will take at least a couple of days!
One things for sure this should have put paid to further trips.

Lets hope it turns out to be good news.

General Discussion / Disgusting language!
« on: June 09, 2023, 09:02:24 PM »
Nice evening, decided to take a stroll to my "local" watering hole {minus 'er indoors} had the first pint outside went in for seconds and decided to sit inside. There is something wrong with a pub on a Friday evening having a total of TEN punters, but that's not the reason for this post.

Altogether the age range of said punters was about mid twenties PLUS one child about eight or nine..... and the language!!!!

I swear {yes I do} but there's a time and a place, I was swearing even before 80% of this village were even born but why the younger generation think it's o.k. to effuack every other word especially in front of children beggars belief.
It's a sad state of affairs.

General Discussion / Riot in Cardiff!
« on: May 27, 2023, 10:51:24 AM »
The tragic events in Wales leading up to the deaths of two teenagers and the ensuing trouble leads me to this conclusion.

It is alleged....
According to one victims relative the two teenagers were being "chased" by the police and this obviously caused the accident.

I.M.H.O.
There is no one else to blame for the accident but the victims themselves and the people that started the chain of events leading up to the fatal crash.
One was 15 the other 16 basically kids, giving one an electric bike for their birthday was like giving a monkey a machine gun, anyone with any degree of intelligence could figure out what was going to happen, even then it wasn't a case of if, it was when, they were an accident waiting to happen. Two of them on a bike riding up and down an estate it wouldn't take long for them to come to the attention of the police. As for the "chase" according to C.C.T.V. there was only one time the police were anywhere near the lads on the bike the rest of the time they were hundreds of yards behind, and prior to the crash had turned off the road away from the bike, so for at least two minutes leading up to the crash they were nowhere near the pair and possibly nowhere in sight.

No one likes to see loss of life especially when it's a needless death, but their families seem determined to blame anyone but the victims and/or themselves, couple that with mindless individuals that litter almost every {council} estate that just look for any excuse to start trouble and you have a recipe for anarchy. This could have happened on any estate anywhere in the country and I could almost guarantee the outcome would have been the same.

At the end of the day I have absolutely no sympathy, obviously tragic.....BUT WAS AVOIDABLE!

General Discussion / Water companies
« on: May 20, 2023, 08:32:40 PM »
It's no secret by now that at least 71% of our water companies are owned or part owned by businesses abroad. Companies based in
places like Malaya, Cayman Islands, U.S.A., Germany, U.A.E. and Australia even, these companies don't care if we can't swim or fish our rivers and seas they are just milking us for every penny and putting precious little back.

Time something was done.....
One solution would be to obviously hit them where it hurts, in the pocket, but the fines we impose at the moment are laughable....SO

One way we could overcome this is to get all the major players over here and actually show them the state our water system is really in thanks to them and ask them to sort it. If they refuse or dither then give them an ultimatum, the companies would be fined 5BILLION pounds each which will go towards correcting the mess OR they can sign the water companies back over to the government {totally} with just a token fine of £1 million each.

Fun Stuff / Holiday!!
« on: May 20, 2023, 11:57:48 AM »
A family were at the airport in the queue ready to board for sunnier climes.
The husband turned to the wife and said "I wish I'd brought the piano with me!" the wife said "Why would you want that?"

He said "Because the passports are on top of it"

Chesterfield Discussion / Parking charges at the royal!
« on: April 17, 2023, 07:49:04 PM »
Not visited the royal for about two years now and got the shock of my life when I did today.

Visiting my brother in hospital I was met with no barrier at the car park entrance so asked someone "How do I pay?" and was told.

I was there for just over an hour and was charged £3:20p {apparently the first half hour is FREE}
Absolutely scandalous, even the Dick Turpin's at Chesterfield council don't charge that much.

It's getting so you can't afford to be ill nowadays.
