'Chuggers'
« on: July 26, 2012, 08:42:36 AM »
Im sick and tired of being collared by these bloody irritating and annoying people known as 'Chuggers'.  If you arent sure what one is, its a Charity Mugger.  They do actually work for charities but they leap over to you most of the time shouting 'Hi Mate, how are you'

Im not your mate, f*ck off.

I can appreciate they are doing it for a reason but to follow people and keep on at them is a bit off.  I saw one last week, one of them spoke to a woman and she politely said she hadnt got time but he followed her a good 10-15 yards trying to get her to talk to him.

I personally think these should be banned from high streets throughout the country.  I give to a Breast Cancer charity anyway and if I wanted to donate, id approach them, not the other way around.

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

TBH they wind me right up - especially when they bully older folks.

I would just ban them all outright.

They bring down the whole notion of charitable acts.

That'll be among the earliest of bye-laws when I become the town's first elected mayor - if one of these takes one step towards you, you're allowed one undefended punch.

The ones that really annoy me,after knocking on my door say most of your neighbours have signed up to a direct debit, and they are sure you would like to do the same.

Not strictly 'chuggers' but last night, whilst watching the olymp***, someone knocked on the door.

It was a guy representing the British Heart foundation (a very worthwhile cause), and, after he'd introduced himself I politely told him that I already support a charity (which is true).

To which he responded "which charity is that?", to which I was very restrained and said "That is personal to me".

If they are using aggressive approach report them to the council and if several complaints they will be banned next year. This only applies to street collections though i assume shops have similar rules

Yeah about ruddy time.

SCC banned them from Fargate in Sheffield, so they all went to The Moor.  Now where have a lot of SCC staff moved to?  Thats right, The Moor.  oops.

Whilst we were clearing out mums house I had to go back home for something and was just un-locking my door when a young man came onto the drive he had on a green printed T shirt.
As I turned to him and before I could say anything he said - 'don't worry I'm not as bad as I look' -he was I think promoting save our country side or something. The reason he made that remark to me -- he was black! It's a sad world when young black men have to reasure people they approach.
I explained how busy I was and apologised for not having time for him - he was lovely and toddled off to next door.
