General Discussion / Riot in Cardiff!
« on: May 27, 2023, 10:51:24 AM »
The tragic events in Wales leading up to the deaths of two teenagers and the ensuing trouble leads me to this conclusion.

It is alleged....
According to one victims relative the two teenagers were being "chased" by the police and this obviously caused the accident.

I.M.H.O.
There is no one else to blame for the accident but the victims themselves and the people that started the chain of events leading up to the fatal crash.
One was 15 the other 16 basically kids, giving one an electric bike for their birthday was like giving a monkey a machine gun, anyone with any degree of intelligence could figure out what was going to happen, even then it wasn't a case of if, it was when, they were an accident waiting to happen. Two of them on a bike riding up and down an estate it wouldn't take long for them to come to the attention of the police. As for the "chase" according to C.C.T.V. there was only one time the police were anywhere near the lads on the bike the rest of the time they were hundreds of yards behind, and prior to the crash had turned off the road away from the bike, so for at least two minutes leading up to the crash they were nowhere near the pair and possibly nowhere in sight.

No one likes to see loss of life especially when it's a needless death, but their families seem determined to blame anyone but the victims and/or themselves, couple that with mindless individuals that litter almost every {council} estate that just look for any excuse to start trouble and you have a recipe for anarchy. This could have happened on any estate anywhere in the country and I could almost guarantee the outcome would have been the same.

At the end of the day I have absolutely no sympathy, obviously tragic.....BUT WAS AVOIDABLE!

General Discussion / Water companies
« on: May 20, 2023, 08:32:40 PM »
It's no secret by now that at least 71% of our water companies are owned or part owned by businesses abroad. Companies based in
places like Malaya, Cayman Islands, U.S.A., Germany, U.A.E. and Australia even, these companies don't care if we can't swim or fish our rivers and seas they are just milking us for every penny and putting precious little back.

Time something was done.....
One solution would be to obviously hit them where it hurts, in the pocket, but the fines we impose at the moment are laughable....SO

One way we could overcome this is to get all the major players over here and actually show them the state our water system is really in thanks to them and ask them to sort it. If they refuse or dither then give them an ultimatum, the companies would be fined 5BILLION pounds each which will go towards correcting the mess OR they can sign the water companies back over to the government {totally} with just a token fine of £1 million each.

A family were at the airport in the queue ready to board for sunnier climes.
The husband turned to the wife and said "I wish I'd brought the piano with me!" the wife said "Why would you want that?"

He said "Because the passports are on top of it"

Chesterfield Discussion / Parking charges at the royal!
« on: April 17, 2023, 07:49:04 PM »
Not visited the royal for about two years now and got the shock of my life when I did today.

Visiting my brother in hospital I was met with no barrier at the car park entrance so asked someone "How do I pay?" and was told.

I was there for just over an hour and was charged £3:20p {apparently the first half hour is FREE}
Absolutely scandalous, even the Dick Turpin's at Chesterfield council don't charge that much.

It's getting so you can't afford to be ill nowadays.

General Discussion / Madeleine Mcann

Anybody been watching the media covering this story.

As soon as I became aware of this story, a couple of weeks ago, that Maddie may have been found, after only a couple of minutes search I found this not to be true so why it's taken THIS long I've no idea.

O.K. so the D.N.A. proves that the girl claiming to be Maddie is obviously not, the first thing I noticed was yes they both have a spot in their right eyes but on closer inspection you can see these spots are NOT alligned and over your lifetime your eyes never naturally change.

So D.N.A. plus the fact the girl is two years older than Maddie.
All this adds up to someone tutoring this girl in hopes of making a name for themselves {not to mention money} on the flimsiest of evidence, and I don't think you have to look very far to find the answer to that question.

Fun Stuff / I.D. to vote
« on: March 29, 2023, 07:36:30 PM »
Just had my Poll card through the door today for the star wars day elections, mines in the bin already.

It says on the front you don't need to take this card with you to vote!
yet they require {photographic} evidence for you to vote.

Reminds me of that old Arthur Askey gag:- Man walks into the bank and says he wants some money out of his account, the teller says "Yes sir have you any proof of identity?" the bloke whips out a mirror from his pocket, looks into it and says "Yep that's me alright!!!"

Still can't beat the old gags.

I know.....I'd never heard the word before either.

Apparently it's a word dreamt up to describe all those niggly sounds that get on your nerves like, nails down a chalkboard, snoring, loud yawning, tapping, pen clicking and literally hundreds of other things that annoy you as individuals.

So a few that get on my wick {and I believe totally unnecessary} are:-
Loud chewing when eating or chewing gum {my mother used to call this "smacking your chops"} as do I.
Excessive slurping when drinking anything such as tea coffee etc.
People constantly tapping their fingers or an item {my brother does this all the time when out, usually tapping a beer mat on the table}
Anyone whistling whether tuneful or not.

There's lots more that get on my nerves but I think you'll find the majority of noises that annoy me may be universal.

Politics / Wrinklies are past it!
« on: March 22, 2023, 07:48:04 PM »
Anyone else see the news this morning ? A possible "law" being brought in to basically FORCE drivers 70 and over to surrender their licences, working on the principle that most accidents are caused by O.A.P's. so as soon as you hit 70 your obviously gaga, ergo you are a danger.

ANY half decent drivers out there {of any age} reading this don't need me to explain the absurdity of this drivel {if true of course} so I won't, all I will say is if this is coming from the Department of Transport these are the people who dreamt up H.S.2, and these are the people that are forcing us to use "smart" motorways throughout the country.

General Discussion / Emergency phone alerts
« on: March 19, 2023, 08:23:30 PM »
Latest idea from the government, that's been ten years in the making, your mobile phone will bleep a warning and tell you your about to die.

Seriously though, the mobile phone service available in the U.K. a good % of the country has rubbish mobile phone network signals that don't reach certain parts {as yet} so once again putting the cart before the horse.
Yet another sidetracking idea detracting you from looking what's really going on.

General Discussion / The dreaded car b/down insurance & insurance
« on: March 10, 2023, 01:22:36 PM »
Well it's that time of year again.

Breakdown insurance. Been with Green Flag a few years now and they've always put up the yearly premium but always after a phone call telling them I could get it cheaper they always matched the other quote {or within a couple of quid}.
This time their quote was £30 more than last year, wanted over £80 so looked online and found one for £47 with more benefits so rang G/F and they said for the kind of cover I've found their equivalent would cost me £112!!!!! so I got a new policy from Start rescue with everything I needed plus and with the new customer discount offered I paid £41.

My car insurance is not due till end of May so waiting to see what the renewal quote will be before deciding. Same with these, I ring after getting other quotes and they've always matched the lower quote. I'm a little worried as I put my details on a compare site to check prices and the company I'm already with wanted £450 and last year I paid them £220, I think the lowest on the compare site was Tesco at £250 but their reviews are cr*p, all the descent ones seemed to be around the £300 mark, so I'll just wait and see.

General Discussion / Christmas is coming...and no one's getting fat
« on: October 31, 2022, 08:01:46 PM »
What is it about Christmas, people are obviously having to tighten their belts thanks to "cheesy" Truss and her crystal ball so why do people suspend belief during Xmas.

Pubs are advertising "Christmas dinner menus", a typical one is 3 courses for £53pp on Christmas day, that means each person is going to burn up the equivalent of the price of a weeks shopping for nothing more than a glorified Sunday dinner......madness.
I have always maintained that {especially} pub staff should have Xmas day off, they have families too. Years ago most pubs opened for Xmas dinner with just the landlord and landlady serving, but now they are managers wanting staff to work because the brewery's force them too, besides if you would rather waste £50 each when £20 would feed your whole family at home your maybe not as badly off as you imagined.

Anyway why book for Xmas.......the pub may end up not be trading by then!!!

General Discussion / Robin Hood airport
« on: October 31, 2022, 11:20:35 AM »
If what I saw on the news this morning is accurate someone needs their bumps feeling.

The way I see it is, the people that use and /or live near Leeds Bradford airport are up in arms because it's basically too busy and it's over subscribed and causing problems. Robin Hood {about 50 miles down the road} is closing because it's not "viable". Admittedly R.H only has one runway but putting in a second shouldn't be too much of a struggle. I'm sure the vast majority of travellers using L.B. at the moment live nearer R.H.

Why can't L.B. take over R.H.

What is it with these "new" phones.......
They give them super duper names and all it boils down to is having a slightly better camera on the phone than the one you purchased just 3 months ago, and the price of them is eye watering.

Correct me if I'm wrong but phones are for making phone calls {the clue is in the name}

I am in the middle of being "taught" how to use one of these phones by my daughter who is letting me use her old one. I offered to buy it from her but she says it will be obsolete within 6 to 8 months and i would have to buy a new one anyway, talk about being ripped off.

Why do people put up with it, what would happen if this system applied to other things you own , changing your telly every 15 months, computers every year, yes I know these things do get upgraded but not every 5 minutes and you at least have the option of NOT upgrading, with these phones it doesn't seem to be much choice, I think I'll stick to my Doro.
This phone lark is now't but one big con.

Politics / Ex R.A.F. pilots to train Chinese
« on: October 18, 2022, 08:23:32 PM »
The title alone beggars belief........

Reports say up to 30 ex pilots have took up the offer of wads of cash to train the Chinese army and the British government have warned them of the consequences, point is if they've already signed on the dotted line this "threat" is hardly going to change their minds and apparently there is virtually nothing to stop them. O.k. so maybe a few of them may have an axe to grind about how the force treated them during the years they served, but that's no excuse. People have been jailed for fighting for Isis, or better still why don't we just start helping the Russian army, I see no difference.

If I were in charge I would inform any pilot going to China that once they decide to go, take your family with you and leave your passport at the air terminal before boarding because you won't be coming back.
