Fire on Brushfield road
« on: May 03, 2019, 12:25:31 PM »
Thank heavens there were no injuries, very traumatic time for the family, I wish them well.

The main reason for this post is as follows.......
Quote from the D.T. "Firefighters from Chesterfield, Clay Cross, Clowne and Matlock battled the blaze" my question is simple "WHY!"
Obviously not the blaze but why did it need so many firefighters/fire appliances to attend. Clay Cross I can understand but Clowne and Matlock MILES AWAY.
Is it because we only have one engine?
Is it because we don't possess the specialist equipment?
Maybe it's as simple as attending a fire with the local brigade as back up just for the "practice"
Not wishing to down cry any fires severity but at the end of the day it was a semi detached house, and if our local brigade need the help of brigades from miles away then there's something wrong somewhere.

I am not a pessimist, I just help them out when they're busy.

Perhaps the others were just getting bored with playing pool, playing football, workng out, or sitting around , most of the day. So they were invited to remind them ot the job they were employed for !   :))

As I said O.C. I would never seek to give my professional opinion on a fire for the simple reason I am not a professional firefighter, and as I wasn't even a witness to the blaze I cannot speculate on it's severity {at the time}.
But words like "devastating", "the fire ripped through the property" these are emotive words and phrases that can sometimes embellish a story. Every fire in a property can be potentially devastating for the occupants and if left, to really take hold, will inevitably "rip" through the premises, but sometimes these embellishments could be down to the reporter.
By saying it was "just" a semi detached house I was referring to the scale of things, meaning it was not say on the scale of Grenfell tower.
Whichever it was I still don't understand why Clowne and Matlock brigades were needed, especially since whilst there Clowne and Matlock themselves would not have full cover.

As a former firefighter, there would be a number of reasons why different stations may be involved.  Most likely scenario is the location of specialist vehicles or specialist crews.  It is now commonplace to see appliances from neighbouring counties attending incidents within Derbyshire and vice versa. Attendance mobilisation these days is like a game of chess, where it is a matter of maintaining adequate cover, in fact no different to days long gone.  It could be that Clowne and Matlock may well be reported as attending the incident, but not necessarily to the address - they may then be standing by at Chesterfield to maintain cover.
Stupidity is infinitely more fascinating that intelligence.
Intelligence has its limits while stupidity has none.
