Enterprise Inns still own the Somerset House. Their dealings with Tesco have ceased. The Pub has new management. Similar to Toby Perkins involvement with the Crispin, & their subsequent success - myself and another decided to contact Dennis Skinner.
We've both had replies to the effect that he opposes the Tesco takeover, & he is in touch with Tesco & hopes to be able to reply shortly. He intimated there should be a Christmas present to the peoples of Calow from Tesco. We'll wait & see.
I also heard they've built 2 new huge supermarkets (don't know where), which are currently not open for business but should be.
That's all i know for now.

The way that they treated the ex-landlady,maybe the Somerset House should be boycotted?

Somerset House has been saved. Tesco have backed down. Big thanks to Dennis Skinner after contact from my mates letter. And to a lesser degree my e-mail to Dennis. Happy Days :D

Surely a couple of pub transformations wouldn't have been affected by a company of that size's dodgy profit reports.

It now looks like The crispin, ashgate road, chesterfield is set to become a CO-OP
Plans have been submitted to CBC to make alterations to the pub.
As far as i can tell, these plans are pretty much the same as what Tesco wanted to do. ?

So why has no one raised any objections to the CO-OP turning this pub in to a shop ?
A local group of people by the collective name of "save the crispin" went all out protesting, to prevent this pub from becoming a Tesco, but now that it is to be a CO-OP they couldn't give a toss !
As i,  and many others suspected from the start of their "save the crispin " campaign, .. they were not really bothered about "saving the crispin",   THEY JUST DIDN'T WANT TESCO TO HAVE IT !!!  in fact none of this grey bearded pedal pushing  group   ever frequented  the pub when it was open!!.   So come on what's the difference between Tesco turning the pub in to  a shop & The CO-OP ?
Plans can be viewed here .. https://publicaccess.chesterfield.gov.uk/online-applications/    enter postcode  S40 4AW , the crispin plans should be at the top of the list.

Probably cos if someone doesn't take it over soon, the place will get fired/gutted, then probably sold as building land for houses. May as well be a shop. No one likes pubs closing, but if people don't use them they shut. FACT !
On the bright side, it will employ people (y)

A year or two ago everyone was against Tesco and their taking seemingly taking over of pubs to open supermarkets.
I get where you are coming from Tarzan in regards to 'it's still going to be a shop'

Sometimes people get these ideas but they take a lot of fighting and they get disillusioned eventually losing interest or just feeling they won't win the battle.

Like Fly says at least the building stays - but is that not a defeatist way of thinking?

As always - use it or lose it --------
