General Discussion / Re: Part time posties!
« on: January 30, 2024, 01:41:35 PM »
Every time they put the stamp prices up it's another nail on the R.M.'s coffin.

Lets face it the vast % of what drops on your doormat is junk nowadays, but good or bad this is what is helping keep them afloat.
I was a latecomer to technology {computers mobiles and the like} not till I was in my 60's and I still haven't fully grasped all it has to offer, this is why I still insist on hard copies of my bills etc. by post, even though I can usually look it up on line. There are some companies I deal with that tell me they will charge me for a postal bill, for example EE charges £3:80 per posted bill and it probably costs them 50p tops to send it out, but I work on the principal of while ever I need a posted bill delivering there's a need for a postman/woman.

I had to learn the techie thig of using laptops for my work years ago. Did two courses and yes they helped as prior to that I couldn't even switched a laptop on!!
I print a lot of my own paperwork these days and use external drives for storage.
Rubbish at putting posters together though  :))  I know a man that can and he's pretty good bless him. :)

I have missed Curry's the most as I get my ink cartridges from there since Tesco stopped selling them.
I've been ordering online but prefer local shops.
If I can buy electrical goods from Euronic ( Marshalls in Clay Cross) I will but Curry's is my next port of call  if not

It's a pain trying to get
Shopping done before the parking time runs out isn't it.
I agree with you but think Curry's is suited to being down there mainly because of carrying items to the car.

I'm unsure how this will work out as well. Will the Posties be expected to work longer days?
I can't see them setting on extra staff to fit it in but agree so much is sent via email these days.
Stamps I reckon will go up yet again and I'm thinking they will be having to pay out an awful lot after what has been revealed recently.

I've read a couple of statements from shops on the Ravenside saying they are re-opening in the next month.
There's been so many rumours about some of them moving into the town centre it needed clarifying from them.

I've been round our village and although there are some potholes there's nothing as bad as some I've seen.
I've been following the Langer lane saga. On Saturday i went that way to miss road works which were peppered along the route I needed to drive.
The work had been started  --- and left - leaving a long stretch of road with raised iron works. Cars were zigzagging to miss them. My other concern was that at night there apparently isn't much lighting in place terrible!

General Discussion / Re: Made in England
« on: January 17, 2024, 01:24:07 PM »
Most of this countries woes can be attributed to the fact we no longer have our own manufacturing base.

The troubles with cargo ships in the Suez canal...the troubles with Russia are just part of why we are struggling. We no longer manufacture goods here for our own internal market, we have to rely too much on imports and that isn't good.
Once upon a time we and our products were the envy of the world, we exported far more than we imported safe in the knowledge it was top class merchandise, and what we did import was vital, when was the last time you shopped and picked a product with the British kite mark on?
We are now relying on cheap Eastern imports, most of which {especially electrical goods} are turning out to be cheaply made and dangerous the vast percentage of our gas and electric comes from abroad especially with electric we are pumping millions into a French electric company to build nuclear power stations here and very little building work is being done, one site I believe is 15 years in the making and is still far from complete, even the solar panel farms we erect in our fields are made abroad.
Even our national bus company {Stagecoach} is German owned, same with the water companies owned by foreign companies.

We need to go back to manufacturing our own goods and start showing the world we can still be a force to be reckoned with. The British brand has been diluted so many times over the past sixty odd years it's no longer recognisable.

Start producing BRITISH cars, white goods other electrical goods etc. stop relying on foreign imports, if it could be produced here don't import it.

Hopefully one day ----------

I don't care about tabloid news just as long as  the work carries on in the background  to get the compensation and clear their  names.
