Adlington's Avenue and Derby Road Development photo's Oct 2016
« on: October 12, 2016, 02:59:09 PM »
This is named after Colin Burton who farmed White House farm in Tupton for many years. Colin's son took over the running of the farm and this is one of the fields sold to developers. It's at the back of the Adlington's Estate.

Taken from Avenue Washlands.

The Derby Road Development site comes right up to what has always been a quiet country path linking Grassmoor, Adlington's Estate  and Tupton

Chesterfield and District will be a City at the rate building is going on around us all!
I think it has spoiled what has been for many years a lovely walk!

Now THAT'S a name I've not heard mentioned for yonks, Colin Burton.
When I was a [very] young lad he was one of a few "milkmen" who delivered on our estate, using a horse and cart. I remember him starting to deliver milk in bottles as opposed to the churns, but he always kept a couple of churns on the cart for the "oldies" who still went {or left out} jugs for their milk.

The house opposite ours was his tea call, whilst he was in their it was my job {and my younger brother's} to try to prevent the horse from eating the tea calls privet hedge, this was done by feeding the horse with copious amounts of bread.
and yes the bucket and shovel was on standby at our gate {great on rhubarb}
I am not a pessimist, I just help them out when they're busy.

Great bloke was Colin he and his wife Brenda were friends of ours.
Sadly Colin is no loner with us and his son David has his farm.
Brenda still lives in the village of Tupton though.

I think David sold the land which is now built on.
I was actually down Mill Lane earlier today.
