Cordwell Valley
« on: April 28, 2019, 04:44:44 PM »
Just wondering if people still take a picnic and have an afternoon enjoying the peace and quiet of Cordwell Valley. In the 1950s  it used to be a special Bank Holiday treat for parents and children, catching the Holmesfield Bus and travelling for miles and miles. or so it seemed. I remember Pine trees and the ground covered in Pine needles.  Happy days. Now lived in S/W Franc for 16 years and not up to date with the C/field scene.

A quick google shows me that Cordwell Valley is the Linacre Reservoir area  (y)
Me and the missus have visited there a few times over the last few years, bit it's a bit hilly and out of Our_Lasses capabilities now :-(
I'll have a dig around, I'm sure i've got a couple of nice photos from the area  :)

Never a place we visited back then.
It was Matlock, Chesterfield Queens Park, the local Woods or our local recreation Ground by the river

Cordwell Valley was an area beyond Millthorpe Lane beyond Barlow. A delightful walk along Millthorpe Brook..

Chesterfield Corpotation Transport used to run buses beyond Barlow to Cordwell Valley in the 1950 & early 60's.
