I've been with Spire insurance for a few years now for car insurance, but i do get quotes from comparison sites aswell. I sometimes tell them that i've been online & tell them the quotes, not sure if it makes a difference, but Spire insurance has always managed to beat the cheapest comparable quote from comparison sites.  ;)

When i can get E5, i use it because i get less mpg on E10. If i work it out on pence per mile, i find that it works out about the same & sometimes i'm slightly better off using E5. The main reason for this is that E10 produces less energy so reqiures more to give the same bang ? Also, due to the higher ethanol content of E10, it's more likely to absorb more water & cause issues. Unfortunately, i'm finding it more & more difficult to just drive on to a local forecourt & find the one or two pumps that may have E5 ? The only good thing i can say about E10 is that it does appear to have cleaned my fuel system, & probably the catalytic convertor as well, so when i went for the last MOT, the emissions were lower than last year, even though i had put E5 in prior to the MOT ?

Been again this morning and they've gone!
It obviously didn't take the council long to shift them...after all they were costing the council vital parking revenue and that wouldn't do, I mean after all, the poor overtaxed motorist is a vital cash cow for councils, so having none paying "guests" taking up residence and depriving the council of dosh in valuable parking spaces is a no no so it's all hands to the [council] pumps to get them ousted.

It's a great pity the council doesn't apply the same "force" when Joe Bloggs opens his curtains one morning and finds half a dozen caravans across the road on say a recreation ground or empty space.

Perhaps the council were also bothered about paying compensation to all the beggars for loss of income.. :))

Chesterfield Discussion / Re: Do our banks like customers?

We have been trying to open a cheque community account, it is so hard!
We were in the Nat West for a long time the other day, after explaining to the assistant the issues we were having with the online set up of this she kindly sat us down and spoke to an online assistant herself - to cut a long story short she became very frustrated and i suspect a little annoyed with the person on the other end of the line.
Needless to say we left without an account being set up.
All we want is to put a little money away what we have made fundraising and to be able to add to this money for equipment and food for the poorly Hedgehogs we are looking after.
It is so hard!

I don't know if this is any use to you, but there is some info here about community/ charity bank account.https://www.iwoca.co.uk/finance-explained/charity-bank-accounts/

I've sometimes parked there if i have to nip in to the Peak pharmacy,on saltergate. For quite a while it didn't charge anything if i was only about 5 or10 minutes, but now it charges no matter how quickly i am  >:(
What i find more annoying though is all the begging that goes on at these machines, & the council do nothing about it ! :(

I don't bank on line and certainly have no desire to do this.

I am needing a bank which still provides a cheque book - is this a possibility ?
Most banks no longer provide cheque books automatically when you open a new account, but they will usually let you have a cheque book if you ask them for one .

I used to work with some Italians here in Chesterfield. They often used to chat & joke in their own language, which i found to be rather uncomfortable at first, but they did it so often that i made the effort to understand most of what they were chatting about. I didn't let on that i understood most of it & To be fair though they weren't saying anything nasty, or offensive towards anyone else, .. as far as i could understand !  :)

I recently read somewhere, that some  breakdown / recovery agents are now refusing to attend brokendown vehicles on smart motorway sections, whilst some others want at least 2 lanes closed & also highways agency, or police in attendance.!

Ours was a day late as well, should have been wednesday, but came today(thursday) at about 3 o clock ..ish.
On one occasion they were 2 days late just before Xmas.
I did get stuck behind a bin lorry on chatsworth road, near St Thomas's church this morning about 11 o clock .. ish, i think they were doing the blue bins ?

I had heard that quite a few bin men (& women ) were off sick,.. Probably with this bat flue thing ?  :-\

Never fails to amaze me how journalists are quite happy to slate everyone else, but none of their own profession when it comes to breaking or pushing the boundries of covid rules. Whilst watching  a tv news report  on Boris's bike ride, i couldn't help but notice how press photographers & tv camera crews were clambering all over one another to get a good picture of Boris, no social distancing at all & only a few were wearing masks. Same thing happened a couple of weeks ago when  something was happening at the Old Bailey & it's an all too common occurance in Downing Street.  :o

I was travelling up Loundsley Green rd this morning when i spotted someone in a hi-viz jacket in the distance, as i got closer i spotted a motorbike blocking the pavement, with a tripod next to it. After doing a bit of digging, it would appear that these things are operated by Derbyshire Crest,  the same people that operate speed camera vans.  These kind of tactics can hardly be called a deterent, & unless they have a camera facing away, they won't catch motorbikes, nor will they catch the growing number of illegal drivers in this area, who don't have driving licences & use "pool" cars. I also would like to know if they turn out at night, when this road is used as a drag strip ?

Old Chesterfield / Re: Fishers Taxi's
« on: April 07, 2020, 08:56:33 PM »
Was there any connection between fishers & bowers taxis ?
I ask this because, the two smaller pictures at the bottom, with the petrol pumps, look like bowers taxis on Felkin street, & the road in the distance with the line of parked cars being Durrant road. The road on the right ( junction just visible ) could  be Tapton lane? which would have joined the mini roundabout near trebor ?
