'Island Escape' cruise anybody. I think not !!
« on: April 27, 2014, 07:23:10 PM »
Saw this beautiful cruise liner whilst in Palma Majorca last week.

Our_Lass saw a news clip in a newspaper yesterday's, she's only just mentioned it to me.
Here's the same story from the mailonline. Read some of the comments at the bottom of the article  :-X

That's one reason why I'd never go on a cruise; if there's any bugs around I always seem to catch them.

No excuse for poor hygiene etc but if you read the story properly its not quite as sensational as it seems.
its around 200-250 passengers over a period December 2009 and some point in 2013.
That could be 4 years
The ship carries around 1500 passengers
Lets be generous and say it operates at 75% capacity for 40 weeks over 3 years
Thats around 135000 people.
Meaning 0.2% of them got ill.

Take me to any hotel in Spain, Greece, Egypt etc that hold 500 people.
Theres often broken loos and poor hygiene
say just 2 of the guests get sick each week with a tummy bug.
Thats 0.4%

We saw that ship last year I think whilst on our jaunts - it looks more a like a battle ship!
We have cruised 20 plus times and only once gone down with the Noro virus which was on P&O's Oceana  round the Caribbean - a lovely ship andf would sail with her again.
We were told that a 'passenger who got on at Manchester took the virus on board'???
Welll I don't know but I do know that hubby wasn;t impressed when he was given a pack to give 'a sample - complete with cling film'  :))  :)) he hadn't a clue what 'that' was for  ::)  :))
It can happen on any ship unfortunately.
