The Big Wheel
« on: January 31, 2019, 02:36:21 PM »
No plans as yet for a return of the wheel in Chesterfield.
I was just wondering what others thought of it last year?

We thought it a good idea and by all accounts encourage a lot of people into the town centre - did it increase sales?
I seem to think it did but am a bit unsure?

We personally made a 'bit of a day out' when it came.
Using the bus into town we browsed the shops and bought a few items, had our ride on the wheel and after went for a welcome hot drink.
Later we enjoyed a late lunch and a bottle of wine before getting on the bus back home.

I wonder how many more people did something similar - or how many didn't bother to go up there and view our town from above!

We made it into a mini-occasion too! Pity it was raining while we were on the wheel. We didnt do the bottle of wine...but sounds a good idea!

Welcome to the forum Smithy  :)
I suspect others also made it into a mini occasion.
Our only glitch was the fact I booked and paid online. They took the money out of our account but we didn't get our tickets.
It was eventually sorted and the weather was quite cool up at the top but dry.
I would like to see some other attraction to our town if not that one as I think it was quite successful and not particularly expensive either.

It does the rounds doesn't it.
We went to Skegness last September and it was there.
Across from the shops on sea front.

According to the D.T. no wheel for Chesterfield this year!
I am not a pessimist, I just help them out when they're busy.

Update.... According to my daughter who spoke to someone she knows working for the Council...the wheel WILL be returning this year.

The Liverpool Wheel has been in situ for possibly 10 years alongside the Echo Arena. Seems a more permanent attraction than the more mobile wheel that visited Chesterfield.
Stupidity is infinitely more fascinating that intelligence.
Intelligence has its limits while stupidity has none.
