General Discussion / Nuisance phone calls
« on: March 12, 2019, 07:40:07 PM »
Does anybody have the same problems as we do.Today between 10.00am and  14.00 hrs  we received 7 calls.I have given up picking up because most of them are part of this ringing lots of people system at the same time and quickly goes dead if you pick up.
I thought recent legislation had banned these pest firms but obviously not.

Chesterfield Discussion / Recycling
« on: March 04, 2019, 07:26:42 PM »
Some months ago I left some small batteries in  a plastic  bag  tied to my blue bin  for recycling. When the binmen  came  one of them ripped the bag off the bin and just threw them straight into the bin.I rang the council and told them and they said they should be handed to the driver.I left it at that.
Today when they came I had some glass bottles  which I duly left in the insert provide on the pavement next to my blue bin.One of them promptly tipped them into my bin and then they were tipped into the waggon with all the rest. There is a blue bin attached to the waggon which all glass should  go into.I rang the council and they confirmed i  had  acted correctly. She promised to inform her manager. JI am a avid recycler but it makes you wonder whether its worth it.

Chesterfield Discussion / Horns Bridge Roundabout
« on: February 12, 2019, 07:46:17 PM »
Today for the third time in a month I almost got wiped out on this rooundabout.I came down from Hasland and joined the bypass just before the island and took the  middle lane  towards the Tesco roundabout.Just as I was about to pass the town centre exit this  idiot in the outside lane flew past me and went  towards the Lordsmill Street roundabout. As i said thats the third time I have escaped by the skin of my teeth.
No wonder there are so many accidents there as you cannot legislate for lunatics.

« on: January 06, 2019, 06:17:29 PM »
Hi Fly could you answer me some questions on the above for a driver  in Chesterfield not disabled.

1.If you drive down Rose Hill East can you turn left.
2.If you can can you go up Soresby Street and Glumangate .
3.Again if you can can you go along Knifesmithgate onto Cavendish Street.
4.If you want to drive up Stephensons Place can you only do that by approaching from Church Way End and not from the Donut End.

Chesterfield Discussion / Street Lighting
« on: October 09, 2017, 09:31:57 PM »
In Newbold we have just had our lighting changed to the new LED bulbs,The  streets are now so dark unless you are directly underneath the lamp that I fear that muggers etc. will be rubbing their hands.
Already one of my neighbours  has had their car broke into even though they have  cameras covering it.Apparently the images are so dark there is no chance of the culprit being identified.
It is being rolled out over all Derbyshire and I can see there being problems.

General Discussion / Banks
« on: August 15, 2017, 08:16:04 PM »
I recently paid  a deposit by cheque to a local business as a deposit for some work they are going to do for me.I was checking my account  a couple of days later and found that  the debit to my account was £ !450 instead of   £450 I got in touch with the owner who checked and found that I had written the cheque out correctly  and the error was somewhere in the banking system.
Today he has contacted me and confirmed it is his bank who have made the error. They have told him that to refund me through the banking system  would take 4 to 6 weeks (can you believe that) Anyway the chap has dropped me a cheque in  for £1000 and I have now got to town tomorrow to pay it in.
Four to six weeks isn't modern technology brilliant.

Chesterfield Discussion / Dustbins
« on: May 19, 2017, 07:12:01 PM »
I have a young woman living near me who regularly leaves her dustbin out three or four days  after it has been emptied.People often have to walk on the road to avoid it.Today I rang the council to ask what their policy is about not removing them and I was told that they have no policy and to speak to DCC but was warned that it would be treated as very low priority.I told her I would not bother thank you very much.
I thought fines were issued for putting bins out too early and also not removing them when emptied but obviously they are not.Anybody any views.?

General Discussion / Shower Warning
« on: February 04, 2017, 07:39:31 PM »
A week  ago today my daughter who lives  alone in Nottingham slipped in the shower and realised straight away something was seriously wrong.Somehow she managed to get out of the bath and get some clothes on.She then got the ambulance to Queens Med and after a long and painful wait  she was told she had fractured her  shoulder and  after being given pain relief was told to return on Monday to see the consultant.
On the day she was told it needed plating and to ring up at 6am on Tuesday to  see if she was on the list for the op.She wasn't.She rang Wednesday at 6am and was told she was and be there for 7.30.On arrival  was told she was second on the list.At 3pm told op was cancelled- no reason given. The taxi fare is £15 each way so after complaining that she could  keep paying these amounts they paid her taxi  fare home and the return fare on Thursday. Finally they did it and she has come home on Friday to be looked after by Mum and Dad.
She will be off work about three months(does not get paid apart from sick pay) so it will have been a costly slip.
The motto is beware of taking a shower.

General Discussion / Nuisance Calls
« on: January 16, 2017, 08:34:38 PM »
Does anyone get as many nuisance calls as we do.Out of area calls ,private callers  you name it we get it.Take this morning for instance we had five out of area calls the first one at 7.55am.
Normally  we don't pick up  but the first one really annoyed me and  I gave him a right mouthful. So I decided to pick the others up all were Asian sounding and I suspect from the same place.I didn't give them chance to say what they wanted because I laid into them and they put the phone down every time.
I would have thought in this day and age the telephone companies should be able to stop them.

General Discussion / Triple Lock Old Age Pension
« on: November 07, 2016, 07:35:35 PM »
The other day a committee of MPs have decided that the triple lock pension increase and the winter fuel allowance is not sustainable and should be abolished.

I am an OAP and obviously biased but I cannot believe their downright hypocrisy. It is only a few weeks ago that they had a rise of many thousands of pounds together with the fact that a large percentage of them have directorships   on top of their MP salary.

I think if we got rid of a lot of them and the  peers in the House of Lords(£300 pounds just to put in a appearance and then clear off)would be a far better idea of saving some money.Anybody any thoughts about it?
