Title: Things that really annoy me
Post by: Sorastro on July 22, 2018, 12:22:14 PM
Scottish people who start EVERY sentence with "erm"

Drivers who drive into a parking space only to struggle reversing out {'cos they can't see}...reverse in, drive out.

People who stand at a bus stop for ten minutes then when they get on the bus THAT'S when they start fumbling for their fare.

Dustbin men who leave rubbish on the road because they can't be ars*d to pick it up.

People in shops wanting the person behind the counter to check fifty lottery tickets for them.

Parcel delivery drivers who use scanners.

Scanners.

Phoning premium numbers.

Booking a holiday and being asked to "buy" your seats on the plane.

Phoning the doctors for an appointment and talking to a none medical receptionist.

Self service "tills" in supermarkets.

Blue badge holders.

Going for a meal {in a pub} and having to pay for your meal before you get it.

Noise {of any description}

Football fans who don't understand you don't really like football.

Appeal commercials on T.V.

Politicians.

Too many tattoos.

School holidays.

Body odour.

Mobile phones that give out that silly "whistle" when they get a text.

Mobile phones.

List OC, I haven't even scratched the surface yet:-

People nearly walking into you because they are checking their phone.

Women's magazines.

People who can't string a sentence together without swearing.

Pubs charging the same for a pint of shandy as a pint of beer.

People who give their kids stupid names because celebrities do. {Please tell WILL.I.AM. that spells William}

My wife finally finding the shopping list at the checkout.

Lack of law and order.

A trail of litter leading right up to a litter bin.

Fast food and drinks cans stuffed down bus seats.

Metro's strewn over bus floors.

People who think laws were made for other people.

Not being able to finish a crossword as I can't get the last clue.

And finding a fag end on my drive EVERY morning {and none of us smoke}

O.k so I'm a sad old codger!! but it keeps me out of trouble.

What is it with women and shoes????????

We were watching an old episode of Who wants to be a millionaire the other night and one contestant a young woman possibly late 20's early 30's was asked what she would do with the money I think she said towards a deposit on a house and buy some shoes, when asked about shoes it turns out she already has 50 pairs, Chris Tarrant's reply was a gem  "Why?.... you've only got two feet" EXACTLY!!!
I said to the wife {shows how much I know} "50 pairs she must have spent at least two grand on that lot", my wife said "And the rest!"

It's the same when they are going out somewhere "special" they HAVE to have a new dress, but do they buy a dress that will go with a pair of shoes they already have, of course not that's too easy, they buy a dress THEN look round for a pair of shoes that will go with it.
Oh I forgot they'll also need a new handbag...and a hairdo...and a manicure...and pedicure ad infinitum.

Victor - sorry Sorastro

Shoes  - as long as I have a decent pair I'm not interested in buying another pair, same goes for handbags as long as I have a handbag in black brown or white - I'm happy.

Smelly people - this hot weather has brought out a large number of people who stink, stale sweaty bodies and clothes. No excuse.

People who let their children run riot in the GP waiting room -
Moodiness
belching loudly
- and the other end as well
That chuffing cat which got into my hedge hog house for the food.
Lazy people

I have mentioned before stuff all over buses, but it's got to the point now where these buses are just like mobile canteens. I get on a bus now, especially coming back from town, and these passengers get on with humongous cups of coffee and Greggs sausage rolls and sarnies and proceed to stuff their faces during the journey whilst droning on on the phone. Most of these people then alight from the bus leaving the remnants of their beano strewn all over the seat and floor, I've lost count the number of times I have got up during a journey to pick up a bottle/can that's rolling around on the floor of the bus and held it till we got off and put it in a bin.  We caught a bus to town about 3 weeks ago and one [double] seat no one could sit on as it was covered in what looked like cola, the bus was busy so a few had to stand.
My wife says I wonder if they treat their houses like that and I say YES of course they do they are just animals in human form.

I think the bus companies need to go back to basics with some ideas, things that are rare nowadays on the buses.
No food or drink to be consumed on the bus.....
Please have exact fare ready.....
Any troublemakers will be banned from using the service....
Able bodied must give their seat to the elderly or disabled......

Until at least those four rules are reintroduced the buses remain foul mouthed smelly mobile pig sty's, not a pleasant experience.

You are unfortunately very correct with your comments. I have been a bus driver for close to 13 years & have seen a lot of changes during that time. No food or hot drink to be consumed on the bus - we should be sponsored by Greggs!                                              As for having exact fare - that is not a problem. We are not issued with a float by the company so if you can't give change we give them a change voucher - like an i.o.u. to be redeemed by another bus driver. They look in their hand like you have pooed on it when it's issued despite being around for a few years.Trouble makers (serious) do get banned- all buses now have audio and video cctv.As for able bodied giving up seats for elderly or disabled-that's usually the discretion of passengers & I find on the whole that they will sort it themselves. There is an official guide which I guess virtually no bus user has ever read and here is the link.https://www.stagecoachbus.com/conditions-of-carriage

well down my back or if formal tucked into my trousers.
Instead they wear ill fitting jeans {or mainly track suit bottoms} I'm convinced most go "commando" and filthy T shirts that barely cover their pot bellies let alone their derriere's.
Just last week in Morrisons one guy at the meat display cabinet rifling through the packs of meat with his rear end on display, I called the wife over and said "Look at the crack on him" a woman about 3 feet away from me looked at me daggers as the bloke walked over to her, obviously her husband, I looked at her and said disgusting and walked away, she didn't argue.

I blame the supermarkets, they are not policing their customers properly, security it seems is just there for shoplifters, they tolerate these lard*sses  because their money is as good as everyone else's, but surely there MUST be some sort of dress code when shopping, I heard a while back Tesco's stopped people shopping at night in their pyjamas {as some did} but it's all right for you to shop with your bits hanging out.
It's almost as bad as blokes walking round supermarkets in the Summer months in speedo's and little else, looking like they've just walked off the beach, watching them pick up fruit and veg interspersed with scratching their nethers.

Things that annoy me {post lockdown}

Discarded face masks that have become the number one piece of rubbish that now litter our streets.

The compulsory wearing of face masks on buses, being driven by someone not wearing one {the last time I checked I don't think just a perspex screen is an antidote to Covid}

Still no policing of people not wearing masks in shops.

The police cannot be everywhere so asking them to police this issue is a non starter, it's down to the shop staff, like just simply putting a sign outside the shop that's very clear and concise and BIG...  " NO MASK.....NO SERVE"
 and having more staff at the doors, The non wearers will soon start to drop into line when faced with an empty larder and fridge.

Unfortunately I'm not holding my breath. We followed a "druggie" into Morrison's Staveley the other day, {you can tell them a mile off} phone up to his ear no mask walked straight in and made a beeline for the booze department. I didn't see him after that but if Morrisons have expensive bottles of booze right next to the entrance, where there are no checkouts then no one would should be surprised at the result.
I will even go as far as to suggest supermarkets let some pilfering slide as it's probably far easier, cheaper and moreover safer than challenging them.

Thought I'd tag onto this topic, as it's apt.

Went away for a few days a couple of weeks ago and virtually every place we went in, be it just for a drink or maybe food, they said, or had a sign on the door saying "Sign in with the app using your phone" and when I told them I don't possess such a phone and pulled out my Doro {NO.... not a euphemism} I really do have a Doro phone, they look at me as if I'd just come from the dark ages. Surely I can't be the only one with such a phone. I sometimes think it's my fault and I should get a "proper" phone and drag myself into the 21st century, you know the ones, the big square ones that you can watch Tic-Toc on, take millions of photos you'll only ever look at once, make funny faces with your pictures, cheat on pub quizzes with it and pay for literally anything by just waving it in the air.

No I'll just keep whipping my Doro out for now, it's all the technology I need.

Surely they had a sheet for you to sign in that way! Not everyone has mobile phones.
The only time I have come unstuck was in Edinburgh on our steam train trip. My app wouldn't work --- dohhhh that was because I was in Scotland! Needless to say the assistant showed me how to sign in on line by a different method

Only one place we went in had a clipboard and pen O.C., one place wanted me to E mail them when I got home with details of my visit there, you can see the look on their faces of "Oh my God another wrinkly" I even had one lad in a pub, as soon as I showed him my phone, started to talk louder as if I was deaf. The training regime for staff in pubs must be abysmal.
Judging by the age of the staff in some of these places a lot of them probably won't know what pen and paper is!

One more thing that has cropped up.... quite recently. Over the past few weeks I've had occasion to speak to people either over the phone or in person and their responses, especially when speaking to females {especially the younger ones} when I ask a question or query something that's maybe simple to them was they have started replying "ahh bless".
Now I know they obviously mean well, and it's obviously not intentional, but I DO find it rather patronising... especially since I spent ALL my working life dealing with the public face to face and was taught the importance of etiquette by my mentor from day one.

It's just these little things that remind me I'm not a teenager anymore, especially now when I look in the mirror and I see my dad staring back at me!!

Been to Asda at Forest town this morning {so much for my carbon footprint!} but if Boris can fly down South for today's P.M.Q's and then fly back for COP26 in Scotland then I'm sure someone will forgive my little indiscretion.

I was astounded at the number of trolleys just left in bays and on the walkways because the shoppers who used them are too bone idle to walk 20 feet and put them in the trolley "parks".
What happens if it's windy and the trolley starts heading towards a parked car, simple IT'S NOT THEIR CAR....why should they care!
And it's every supermarket you go to that supply "free" trolleys, go back to putting a quid in the slot, they'll put them back then.

I'm convinced there is someone on the end of the trolley production line with a sledgehammer and as the trolleys pass he gives each front wheel a whack!..........it's the only explanation.

I was told, at a very early age, that any task you may perform, be it building a house or just paying your bus fare, a good 80% of it is preparation.

So it really annoys me to see the most mundane of tasks becoming jobs of epic proportions, and I'm sorry to say it's mainly shoppers.
Now I'm not the patient of shoppers, so when it comes to seeing people making a simple task difficult {daily} my blood boils. We were in Morrisons at checkout, the lady in front of us was having about a dozen items scanned through whilst insisting on talking on her phone, you know when they put the phone between their triple chins and a shoulder to resemble Quasimodo on speed. She obviously couldn't do two jobs at once so rather than put her phone down and concentrate she was rabbiting on whilst making a pigs ear hole of packing her stuff, then when it finally came to pay she had an oversized "handbag" and rummaged around in it to produce a purse slightly smaller than a loaf of bread, and when opened there were cards of every description slotted into every orifice.
Just why is it necessary to carry literally dozens of cards round with you if your only visiting maybe two shops. I just have a small credit card type flat wallet that just contains my bank card, licence, bus pass, vaccine card and organ donor card AND THAT'S IT!!
The week previous {same scenario} the bloke in front of us suddenly figured out he hadn't brought enough money with him {YEA'H RIGHT}
so the checkout girl {plus a supervisor} were re scanning his items to see what could be deducted and we were only talking about 30 bob the veins in my head were throbbing, all they had to do take stuff back and say "Come back when you have the right money".

Normally I am very tolerant of people I speak to on the phone....but!
When ringing a company for example I do expect the person on the other end of the phone to have more than just a modicum of the Queens English.

I had occasion to ring Severn Trent a couple of weeks ago basically to ask if there was still a hosepipe ban on round here, so I could wash my car without using a watering can, as I couldn't get a definitive answer browsing. The lad that answered the phone, to say English wasn't his first language was an understatement.......I don't even think it was his second or third! I had to ask the same question at least 4 times and each time he just couldn't get his head round the word "hosepipe" totally alien to him, in the end he started muttering something about a water shortage so I just said thanks and hung up.

And I STILL don't know!

Received an Email/ newsletter from Severn Trent a couple of days ago basically saying how brilliant they are and amongst their boasts was the quote:-
"We haven't had a hosepipe ban since 1995". I'm assuming by "WE" they are just referring to themselves and not other water companies  nationwide..........well at least I  now know.

Totally agree with the 4x4 comments and it happens a lot!
If you can't drive it don't buy it!
Our car has a hoist for daughters wheelchair and driving with a large heavy w/chair in the back makes for slightly different style of driving. We have to convert to what type of vehicle we have - if we can't drive them we shouldn't be at the wheel but there seems to be some kind of status to having a 4 x 4 not sure why though!

Since having my latest car just over 2 years I've taken it to one of these wash places three times, and every time i get back home one of the rubber door guards on the two front doors is missing so I do it myself.

Oh I really don't like people who use a hosepipe to wash their car.

Hosepipes are useful getting the initial dust off before hand washing

If one more female shop assistant says Byee Byee to me in that stupid high pitched Tele Tubbies voice I'll SCREAM.   :-X
Maybe have the bottle to tell them and you may get barred from the shop. It's better than a shop assistant not even trying to be polite to you. They may say it line that because they could have a medical condition. I know a lad who speaks with a squeaky voice and he can't help it. He has a inherited medical condition.

Normally I am very tolerant of people I speak to on the phone....but!
When ringing a company for example I do expect the person on the other end of the phone to have more than just a modicum of the Queens English.

Reading you're posts 🥱 really

I had occasion to ring Severn Trent a couple of weeks ago basically to ask if there was still a hosepipe ban on round here, so I could wash my car without using a watering can, as I couldn't get a definitive answer browsing. The lad that answered the phone, to say English wasn't his first language was an understatement.......I don't even think it was his second or third! I had to ask the same question at least 4 times and each time he just couldn't get his head round the word "hosepipe" totally alien to him, in the end he started muttering something about a water shortage so I just said thanks and hung up.

And I STILL don't know!

Wait until the infrastructure is actually finished.

That's when they start knocking on your door and filling your letter box with junk mail, trying to get you to buy a subscription.

 >:(

They have been working on our estate for a while now and about a fortnight ago I heard a knock on my front door, as it turns out it was a Virgin media "salesman". I can always tell when it's someone trying to sell me something as the kitchen door and front door are only 10 feet apart and the front door has a sign on it clearly saying please use other door and on the kitchen door is a bell and a couple of in your face notices on it one stating "NO DOOR TO DOOR SALESMEN" so that's why they knock on the front door so they can feign ignorance.
I let him babble on for about a minute and then said "I don't have the internet" and shut the door.

I thought door to door salesmen had been banned?

A quick Google search tells me it's perfectly legal in the UK

Just read it Fly..
It says something along the lines of "It may be a criminal offence for a trader to ignore your sign" exactly what I mean about these people pretending not to notice my sign.

As I have about 3 signs on my front door and the same on the "back" door I am really tempted to take the whole lot down and just put one very large sign that says... {put expletive here}

A door bell camera so you can see who is at your door and ignore if appropriate?

Anyway back to my favourite topic........shopping!

I went to Sainsburys at Whitt moor yesterday and I was literally ripping my hair out. stood at a checkout with two others waiting, and waiting because the couple being served kept disappearing into the store picking things they had "forgot", so decided, against my better judgement, as we only had half a dozen items to go to the self service tills. These tills are not me friendly, and we couldn't figure out what we were doing wrong as we couldn't scan stuff so I asked one of the staff to help and she just shrugged her shoulders and said "I'm not on this section" in the end I said to the wife look just leave the stuff and we'll go to Tesco when another member of staff offered help and asked why we didn't ask, I said we did and was basically ignored {we only went in there because we needed Argos}.

There might be changes afoot in stores, it appears a lot of them are starting to scrap the self service tills. I'm not surprised, they must have lost millions to people only scanning half of what they've got in their baskets and it serves them right too.

Self service isn't suitable for us. we don't shop every week. When we do go it's two trollies - full.
I really couldn't be bothered with trying to get that through especially if they are only using those small checkout benches.

Supermarkets have without a doubt caused the demise of the "local shop". Everyone nowadays has become accustomed to buying in bulk and shopping maybe once or twice a week but no matter how much stuff they get from the supermarket they will inevitably use their local shop during the week for one off items.
When I was a lad there were at least 32 shops and businesses in our village, 3 pubs and a club and no one had even heard the word supermarket, now there are 2 pubs a club {only just} and less than a dozen shops and businesses.

I often wonder if supermarkets would benefit by going back to the old shop system. Basically walk into say Tesco C/C and be met with one long counter with manned tills evenly spaced along it and all the goods behind the counter {a bit like Argos} give them a shopping list, sit back and wait for someone at the rear to pick your order and wheel out your goods, then pay and leave, with a few tweaks here and there I reckon that could work.
   No more shelf stackers, or delivery van pickers, getting in your way, no more constantly asking people to move because they are stood talking blocking the aisles no more prices going up because they have to recoup losses through shoplifting......no more shoplifting which also  means less spent on security.
