Stonegravels pubs
« on: February 19, 2012, 08:17:58 PM »
Hi everyone
I'm a newbie and already after info!
I am trying to find information on pubs (dead or alive) in the Stonegravels area ie Sheffield Rd / Newbold Rd and surrounding area for our local history group. If anyone has any memories, stories, or photos that they would be willing to share then I would love to hear from you.

For "therealjr" - mycul said I should ask you!

Many thanks

Hi Poppy, welcome to ChesterfieldOnline ;)

I'm not sure if members of this forum have any more info about your post subject.
Though I'm sure they will do their best if they can  :)

Nice to have you on-board  ;)

Don't have any Stonegravels pub photos - but is your interest only in Stonegravels? I have one of a tram crash on Whitt Moor - LOL
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Hi Poppy
Don't think I've got anything to add to what you've already got on the other forum.

Dad frequented the Hare and Hounds from the late 60's to the early 90's (I'm Mycul's brother if you haven't worked it out)
I only went in from 81 to 87.
The Wrights had the pub when I started going in think his name was Geoff. He ran it with his wife whose name just escapes me. When he died his son took over, he was as you have already had confirmed called Malcolm.
Next landlord after them was called Don, he came from the Masons Arms on Chatsworth Road.
Can't help beyond that

Hi Poppy.  Welcome to the forum.

I used to live in Newbold and got off my bus at The Cross Daggers which was on the main Newbold Road at the junction with Highfield Lane.  I was too young to go drinking at the time, but recall the pub as I could see if from my house.  I think it was demolished in the very early 1960's.

 :D
