Event In Chesterfield Library
« on: March 08, 2016, 11:30:59 AM »
I think there is some worth while information to be gained by visiting this.

The free event is being led by our community safety team working with experts from a wide range of organisations and will be held on Saturday 19 March at our library on New Beetwell Street in Chesterfield.

There will be stalls and events taking place between 10am and 3pm. Professionals will be on hand to talk to. These include the following:

Climbing wall
Alcohol Awareness
Wellbeing information
Raising awareness of Learning Disabilities
Hate Crime information
Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence
Cyber Crime Team
Drug services
Trading Standards
Adult Care
Loan Sharks
Fire Service
Police
Community Safety Unit
New at this event will be 'hoarding awareness' as hoarding in the home can create a fire risk. The day will include the opportunity to talk to fire officers about hoarding, how it can be managed and where to go for more information and help. There will be a large display in the library entrance to show what hoarding might look like in the home.

Our Cabinet Member for Health and Communities Councillor Dave Allen said:

"This event will address a wide range of issues that are of concern to Derbyshire residents and people can dip into whatever interests them.
"The police and fire service will be involved along with experts from our trading standards and adult care teams.

"There will be information on drugs, alcohol, domestic abuse and a climbing wall outside for youngsters to have a go on.

"I hope that people of all ages will join us at this event and find out about the extensive work we do throughout the county to help keep residents safe and well."

Older residents can bring along their old electric blankets and swap them for a free fleece topper − a thick cosy cover which helps to maintain body heat by preventing warmth escaping downwards through the mattress.

While visiting the library residents can check out the health and wellbeing zones where there are books and ipad information screens with useful information on how to keep good physical and mental health throughout life.

Residents can find out more information on the Safer Derbyshire website (opens in a new window) or by calling 01629 538472.
