Department Nightclub.
« on: March 30, 2016, 05:20:09 PM »
Noticed above the battered shutters a sign with simply ' Department' on a black sign. I think the building used to house a cinema many years ago when I left Chesterfield it was another nightclub forgot the name. How long was it the Department club must have been closed a long time?

I know which one you mean now.
Didn't know it was closed.
Used to be the ABC Cinema I think.

My memories are queuing outside the cinema to watch the latest  'must watch' film. At times the queue would be down the steps and always to the left down the street.
As a teenager it brought many arguments with my dad who insisted I be home on the 10 o'clock bus at night , which meant i would miss the end of the film - so - the rebel I was I went home on the 10.30 bus. Dad told me off and I chelped back  ::)

Says in a whisper -'hey I rather like this young un - he does as he's told  ;) if only the two old uns would  ::)  :-*  ;D

Only joking WCT  :)

To be honest I know little of this building once the cinema had closed it's doors, by then I was married and a mum and had no interest in frequenting the town.
From what you say though it's sounding as if it has changed hands quite a few times.
