My sister lives in a residential care home with 4 others, all of whom have learning difficulties.

It transpired that one of the carers was bullying the residents verbally, unfortunately due to their disabilities, they were unable to voice their concerns. Fortunately when a new carer started they witnessed it and reported the carer. Fortunately, despite the carers protestations of being innocent, that person has been sacked.

It's worrying enough when a relative has to be placed in a care home, without the fear of them being mistreated in any way.

Don't get me started on Carers Sorastro I have just got rid of yet another agency making it four in total over the last few years. Some should never be in the job!!!

You're right O.C. I could tell you tales of some of the antics of "carers" me and some of the other drivers came across when delivering to the pensioners. I must stress I'm not tarring every carer with the same brush, there are really dedicated ones out there but as in all walks of life there are bad apples.

Fake news has been around since the year dot..... but then, until recently, it was called lying, and it was easier to discover.

This is what comes of society when the machines start to take over our lives. I haven't bought a paper to read seriously for many years I just glance through it then it's straight to the crossword page, same with the D.Times, quick look at the headlines then onto the head and shoulders page then crossword and that's it.
Obviously I have remarked on here occasionally that I may have picked a snippet of information up from a paper, but I usually try and check the stories origin if I can.

As for certain channels possibly keeping the elderly entertained, maybe so but many's the time on my last job, when visiting o.a.p.'s finding some sat watching back to back Jeremy Kyle, Springer, et al  usually not because they want to watch it, it was usually down to the "carers" putting it on because THEY wanted to watch it, instead of getting on with their jobs, and then going leaving poor old Gladys to sit through that tripe because the t.v. remote is out of reach.

Fun Stuff / Form a line
« Last post by Alsatian on December 29, 2018, 10:55:48 PM »
When everybody on earth was dead and waiting to enter Heaven, God appeared and said, "I want the men to make two lines.
One line for the men who were true heads of their household, and the other line for the men who were dominated by their women. I want all the women to report to St. Peter.

Soon, the women were gone, and there were two lines of men.
The line of the men who were dominated by their wives was 100 miles long and in the line of men who truly were heads of their household, there was only one man.

God said to the long line, You men should be ashamed of yourselves; I created you to be the head of your household!

You have been disobedient and have not fulfilled your purpose!
Of all of you, only one obeyed. Learn from him."

God turned to the one man, "How did you manage to be the only one in this line?"

The man replied, "My wife told me to stand here."

I don't care if there's 500 channels full of tripe. No one forces people to watch them, plus they keep some people occupied, elderly, etc which must be a good thing  (y)

What I don't like are programmes that are supposed to be news, or public information, that try to shove things onto you as fact.

Some years ago, me and my late father were listening via a radio ham receiver to some part coded broadcasts from Bosnia by the Reuters news agency. We were using a decoder I had built. The thing is, what was reported on the BBC and other Uk networks later in the day was nothing like what we'd read earlier. I understand some things are toned down when conflicts are occuring, but almost turning a story to suit ???
