Wow Chesterfield got two leisure centres now?
« on: January 09, 2016, 08:32:55 PM »
I didn't think that Chesterfield people took fitness to the extreme that the council had to build another leisure centre . My partner was going past Queens Park and noticed a newish building . We're I live we got no leisure centre never mind two ok the locals around here not into fitness thing.

Doubt it WCT - too many puddings walking around - including me  ::)

Emmz I like the Stavely Centre but never been in the swimming baths there -

scimitar, I used to swim in the Clay Cross Baths but not been for a long time.

Not in the Chesterfield area but I like Bakewells baths, love the Village Style changing rooms and the waters warmer as well.

My wife and her sister were shown round last Wednesday. It was busy with lots just looking round but there were not many in the swimming pool. The only thing that concerns them is that there are no separate changing rooms for the swimming pools-they are unisex.
The car park is free for three hours but will be kept under review to see if people are using it to go elsewhere and if necessary they will make a charge which will be refunded if you use the facilities.
I understand that people are already complaining there is no diving board  nor childrens water chute. It must also be remembered that Chesterfield Tech are using it as well so certain activities could be busy at certain periods,
They are going swimming this week so should have more idea then.

umpire if I remember correctly the lack of diving board and water chute was one of the gripes about this new pool as was the
possibility of 'limited times' for Jo public because of the tech involvement.

I actually like the village style changing rooms that is what they have in Bakewell and I found it easier when taking children of both sexes.

I'll be interested to know thoughts from your family after their swim.

My mate who is a fanatical autograph hunter(40000)and counting valued at over £25000 went on Saturday to see the official opening by Kim Marsh of Coronation Street. He said she willingly signed autographs and had  photographs taken by whoever wanted  them. She then did a fitness class to promote her new DVD.

The other half says you go in the main entrance and turn left where the snack bar is.Go to the end of the snack bar and there is a door through to the pool.
There are seats to watch but nothing like the amount there was at the old centre. Not sure what type of seats they are.

The Saturday visit didn't happen but it's on for this week so I've called in and looked around.

Very much as you said umpire

Small spacious cafe where viewing is possible from some seats.
There is a door which leads into the spectators seating which are the fold back type of seating, not as many and very warm in there.

Ideally they could do with a price list for drinks etc in the serving/counter area as the only one we saw was over the other side near the cafe seating.

The pools don't look as big as the old Baths.

Changing rooms are Village with two accessible rooms one of which is a 'Changing Room'  ( has a ceiling track hoist in )

Very accessible ( ground floor level as didn't go any further so can't comment)

Free 3 hour parking,
