Any volume

The Rolling Stones - You Can't Always Get What You Want - Live On Copacabana Beach

Wow.

Many years ago I had an argument, (I know, not like me), with a mate over which was better live music or recorded. His argument was that recorded music was better because any mistakes could be ironed out in the studio and the sound improved. My argument was that good music isn't about sound quality, but about the "feel" of the music, which is always better with a live performance. This vid shows I was right, as always. ;)

There's a place for both. Bands like Pink Floyd try to reproduce the albums almost note perfect whereas many rock bands change things a lot and don't worry too much about the odd mistake. Bob Dylan (these days) sounds terrible just muttering along tunelessly a big contrast from his mid 70s live album.

There are good and bad studio albums and good and bad live albums - the trick is to keep an open mind and trust your ears.

But you knew that already, didn't you Slackley?

Being an ex-musician, I love live music where bands have a bit of freedom to jam around - but Michael Jackson's Thriller and Fleetwood Mac's Rumours are two of the best albums ever made - both studio.
