Bolsover
« on: November 29, 2012, 06:07:06 PM »
Originally being from Bolsover, I was having a think as to when the co-op was built?
I know that I was still living on Oxcroft lane when it was being built remember the porta cabins that held the temporary shop but do remember as well buildings being where the site is now
Obviously i know now its The factory shop.
Going to have to rekindle my love of finding out what used to be where.
Anyone remember Gateway before it becoming Somerfield, and also the no sunday trading?? and not to forget half day wednesdays too

Emmz I don't really know Bolsover that well, so can't help with that.
I can however remember kicking against the Sunday trading in the shops in Chesterfield. originally it was brought out as a volunteering scheme it was obvious where it would lead.
Yes I remember the half day closing and I think 'some' shops in Clay Cross still have half day on Wednesday's as well as the Gateway shops

I think Johnsons hardware shop on Brampton still has half-day on Wednesday.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

My hubby used to close half day on thursday in Matlock - hence our wedding on Thursday afternoon  ::)
He's never lived it down.  ;)

Yes Johnsons does still do it, a couple of shops on chatsworth road close on a monday for some reason.
Ahh the good old days, now i hear that Morrisons have applied for longer trading hours on a sunday, to me its ridiculous as if opening every day from 7-10pm isn't enough mon-fri and sunday 10-4... I am glad i don't work there any more.
But yes any Bolsover knowledge is welcomed as i was brought up there
Orginally from Shuttlewood from 84-91 then Oxcroft lane 91-96 then model village in new bolsover then back to shuttlewood before moving to town in 2004 :D

The old place. Dated 1987-88, I've googled for an hour now but can't find the date or photo's of the new Coop.
The shop to the left with the canopy was the one I was trying to remember about in the,
'Picture The Past' thread on here.

Where coop is now, used to be a petrol station.
Next door was the bingo hall, an old cinema.
Next door to that was the Chocolate Box, it's now a fruit and veg shop.

Might be a bit before your time Emmz  ;)

You'll probably find it's changed a bit, nothing major, just yet.
Morrisons planned though, this will make a big difference.  :)

ahh yes on the Sherwood lodge site, now that will make a massive difference. Remember playing on the big green in sherwood lodge as a kid so it will be a bit weird to say the least.
