Title: The Newbold bus war of the 1990s
Post by: who can tell on July 23, 2016, 10:15:02 PM
My father to put it mindly is a transport enthusiast anyone who has the misfortune to mention the fatal word ' buses'  will have the pleasure of spending hours listening to every detail. However on my last visit to my parents home he mentioned that Chesterfield had a bus war of sorts during the mid 1990s mostly over the Newbold routes the battle was between Chesterfield Transport and Peak Buses who were sort of amateur have a go not a clue bus company. My father said the buses were old and seldom ran on time the company soon fell apart. I vaguely remember them running around Newbold do you recall Peak buses?

Just glancing through old threads I came across this and saw that it wasn't answered.

Yes, the correct name was Peakbus, and the description is spot on.  Here's an example of one of their buses in Elder Way, with prospective passengers discussing whether they dare get on it! https://flic.kr/p/ka5Nhk
