I'm thinking of giving my daughter a surprise 40th birthday party next year.
I did try to get a cruise from Southampton for her birthday ( September ) but couldn't get an accessible room so we are taking her in July instead.
I'm looking for a decent venue to hold the party and have looked on several sites.
Can anyone recommend a place they have used please

What sort of do?
-
Obviously needs to be an accessible venue JR.
Decent buffet and entertainment.
Not sat a fully counted numbers yet but probably between 50 - 70 people.
-
This is proving to be maybe more difficult than I thought.
have contacted two so far, Ringwood Hotel and Batemans Mill - question about accessible toilets
Big headache me finks!!
-
I had reason to visit the new rugby club at Dunston a few months ago and the chap there was telling me that they hire out the venue for private functions. It's a new build. replacing the old facilities which were on stonegravels. Whilst I didn't check the enabled toilets I would imagine that being such a recent development that they would be fully accessible. Might be a bit far out of Chesterfield though. nice bar area, seating and dance floor. :)

I'd try the proact. It's a good venue and being new should have the accessible facilities
-
Thanks poppy and JR I'm working my way through venues - anyone been to Brampton Manor? I'm going to have a look at the room etc there next week.
-
Ive not done a party at Brampton manor but have been for meals etc. Its rather nice and welcoming,
I do know its recently been refurbed as well so unsure what its now like inside.
I am having my 30th at St thomas Church in brampton, at the community centre round back. Been there for parties and think its rather good room is spacious and if its a nice enough day the gardens are good for any kids that ned to let off steam....Unsure whether you have checked there too but worth a look if your in the area :)
-
Emmz I had a telephone conversation with the party organiser at Brampton Manor who told me it does have access/toilets.
I'm open to any suggestions at the moment.
I'm trying to avoid any venue where I will have to start clearing up at the end of the night, can you tell me if I would need to do that at ST Thomas?

I'm looking at using tupton village hall for a christening party, the offer food, bar etc and do all the tidying! We are looking at having a bouncy castle and games for the kids while us adults chill with some more grown up food and drink, all provided by them. Not sure on the toilets but parking and access shouldn't be a problem. Not been inside it yet.
Will get you details for the chair if you want to discuss with them?
-
Hi eabbus thanks for that.
I live in Tupton and have thought about the village Hall ( it has access/toilets ) but again I didn't want to have to start clearing away when people had gone home.
I have done it in the past but to be honest just can't be arsed now
Now if I could find a party organiser who would come and sort that out as well as food. dressing the tables etc -------
-
Sent you a message OC, can remember you mentioning 51 bus before so knew you were somewhere in the vicinity!
I'm in Newbold but will still be using Tupton village hall as it ticks all the boxes for us.
People in our local village halls could do well if they followed suit.
-
Yes I was born in the village and apart from a few years have always lived here. I can remember the fund raising by the villigers to raise money to have it built.
It's got two sections, the large hall has the stage the smaller one the bar area.
Spent a lot of time in their when daughter was young as I was very active in the running of the playgroup there and went onto to 'chair' the committee meetings.
You have made a good choice
Thanks for your pm x

If you don't get fixed up, a member here might be able to help.

Thanks Pete I'm trying to get this sorted this week if I can - I'm on a mission!!
-
Mission Complete!! ;)
Disappointing how many didn't bother to reply to my queries.
It costs nothing.
Viewed and booked the Brampton Manor this afternoon, quite a pretty and private setting, just the finer details to sort out.
Thanks for all the replies folks much appreciated
-
Glad you're sorted OC. ;)
-
I actualy had a call from the Twin Oaks shortly after my last post, they were one of the venues who hadn't replied.
It seems the chap had been on holiday and my email had gone into his junk mail.
One venue wanted a minimum of FOUR GRAND!
Not wanting a cheapo do but 4 grand is a bit much I thought!!
-
Went to a wedding reception at the Twin Oaks in 2006. Was very nice.
Nice staff and very nice food :)
Twas a few years ago though.
-
I have been for meals there but not lately and would have needed to see where the party was to have been held. I agree with you Fly it's a lovely place.
I have today booked The Buddies band to play at the party, so loose ends all being tied up nicely.
-
Glad its sorted. Is that with them clearing up too?
It's next door to my work ;)
My party this coming saturday. MIL has put a lot of work into it. We are at St Thomas church, it would not have suited OC due to the clearing which i know you didnt fancy doing.
-
It is Emmz.
It's in a lovely setting and I believe used to be a private country club?
I have had parties in the past in out village hall and prepared the buffet/clearing up afterwards - in my younger days ;)
Just can't be bothered now.
The venue is what I was looking for and I'm hoping it will be all that I expected on the night.
We are hoping to take daughter for lunch there one day soon as I need to assess the accessible toilets, just in case she need her walker.
( I thought it looked a bit tight width wise ).
I will send some feed back eventually

We went to the Brampton Manor today for lunch with daughter.
I pre-booked and on our arrival the ramp was already in place for entry into the conservatory/pub, solid ramp as well which was impressive as I see many who provide two separate ramps which for obvious reasons are not as safe.
Not your two for a tenner type of place but lovely food, daughter ordered burger which was huge and had bacon on, it came with salad, potato wedges, coleslaw and onion rings, I chose the smoked Salmon and Cajun Chicken salad, hubby went for the Gammon meal.
Toilet for daughter was fine, so came out a full and happy bunny ;)
