Title: Thank God for the rich.
Post by: k4blades on September 01, 2012, 01:39:35 PM
I hear that the latest HMRC figures show that the total amount of income tax collected was £157billionfor the year.
The top 1% of income tax payers paid about 27% of that amount.
Meanwhile the bottom 50% contributed 11% of the total.
So in other words, for every 34p paid in income tax by the likes of me and you, the rich will pay over £42.00.

What a mess we would be in if they all moved their money abroad and hid it in tax havens etc....

if the top 1% only earnt 1% of the income then the argument you make would be valid.
But they don't so it isn't.
(They earn about 50% of the income)
