Louise Mensch Resigns
« on: August 06, 2012, 10:49:54 AM »
Although I didn't agree with much she said, I did like her. But kudos to her for resigning from politics to be with her family.

I think pretty much all of us don't have any real respect for politicians, so well done Louise for getting your priorities right.

Of course, this means a by-election in her constituency - could be interesting. ;)

Slacker will be pleased
Quote from Wiki
'She believes the fox hunting ban should be repealed on civil liberties grounds, and that its debate and implementation was a waste of Parliamentary time'

A majority of only 1,610 should see the Labour party regain the seat (they've already got their candidate, Andy Sawford who works for the Local Government Information unit and is the son of a former MP). If they don't Ed Milliband ought to resign as he clearly isn't offering a credible alternative to the electorate.

True, but Cameron is hardly credible. He couldn't win a majoruty after the mess Brown and Blair created.

I liked Mensch, she seemed to have a sense of honesty and connection with real people, admitting her previous drug addiction, then refusing to be blackmailed about it, etc.

>> admitting her previous drug addiction,

Do you mean on the Question Time when Johnny Rotten was on?

I think it was mentioned then but she wouldn't expand on it.

I think it was already public knowledge by then as someone had tried to blackmail her about it so rather than give in to blackmail, she went public. Thats my understanding, but I may be wrong.
I think she also had other issues in earlier life such as a messy divorce, and so on, so I may have things mixed up, and she also had a stalker but I think she showed promise as an MP probably because of that experience as a real life person, unlike many in the commons.

If she supports animal torture then good riddance

There is massive worldwide torture going on - torturing human beings for the flimsiest of reasons - even children being tortured.

Don't hear the Labour Party mentioning that...

But Facebook has a daily outpouring of anti foxhunting sentiments - an easy argument that doesn't go against national policy?

My personal opinions, nothing to do with Labour policy.

From Wiki
Three days later Mensch received an email alleging that she had taken a controlled substance with Nigel Kennedy at Ronnie Scott's club in Birmingham in the 1990s while working as a press officer for the EMI record company. Mensch publicly released the email and admitted the allegations were "highly probable", but said she would not be deterred from asking further questions about phone hacking. She subsequently admitted using class A drugs in The Sunday Times.

Do you support fishing for support?

I assume the official Labour party answer would be yes or they would have banned that at he same time as fox-hunting, so it appears being cruel to animals is only bad when done by posh blokes.

I don't claim to be spokesperson for the whole of the Labour Party and I agree with Chris that that form of animal slaughter is a disgrace that there doesn't seem to be enough publicity about.

I don't care what religion I offend, they are all deluded.

I also agree that child abuse is more serious than animal abuse but this is already covered by law so no need to go on about it from a soap box.
