Fun Stuff / Town vs Mansfield
« on: December 30, 2021, 06:01:09 PM »
It is just before the Chesterfield and Mansfield  in the local cup  game.
The manager James Rowe goes into the Spireites changing room to find all his team looking a bit glum.
"What's up?" he asks.
"Well, we're having trouble getting motivated for this game. We know it's important but it's only Mansfield . They're shite and we can't be bothered".
Rowe looks at them and says "Well, I reckon I can beat these by myself, you lads go down the pub."
So Rowe goes out to play Mansfield by himself and the rest of the Chesterfield team go off for a few pints. After a few jars they wonder how the game is going, so they get the landlord to put the teletext on. A big cheer goes up as the screen reads "Chesterfield  1 - Mansfield 0 (Rowe 10minutes)". He is beating the Stags all by himself!
Anyway, a few more pints later and the game is forgotten until someone remembers "It must be full time now, let's see how he got on". They put the teletext on.
"Result from the Stadium "Chesterfield  1 (Rowe 10 minutes) - Mansfield  1"(Eustace Sherwood 89 minutes)".
They can't believe it, he has single handedly got a draw against Mansfield !!
They rush back to the Stadium to congratulate him. They find him in the dressing room, still in his gear, sat with his head in his hands. He refuses to look at them.
"I've let you down, I've let you down."
"Don't be daft, you got a draw against Mansfield  , all by yourself. And they only scored at the very very end"
"No, No, I have, I've let you down...
I got sent off after 12 minutes"

Techie Or Suggestions / Recent Forum Outage !!
« on: October 22, 2020, 05:13:13 PM »
The hosting company had a problem with their servers.
After a few days they contacted me and said all was sorted. Which it wasn't.
They come out with the usual have 'you' tried this have 'you' tried that.
I finally messaged them again last night and had a bit of a rant. I'd tried everything !!
They contacted me this morning.

I have checked your situation and after reactivating the SSL certificate the website is working like a charm 😊
I didn't deactivate, and can't activate, that security certificate myself. They control it, I just pay for it  ::)

Techie Or Suggestions / Goodbye photos :-(
« on: September 16, 2020, 11:18:07 PM »
The forum crashed the other day. Was nothing to do with me, I didn't touch a thing.
The hosting company of course said everything looks fine at their end. 'Install a back up copy of the forum.'
So I did. For some reason, the back up didn't replace the photo's/avatars correctly.
Well, actually, I know damn well what happened to the backup download,
but they are going to tell me I should have backed up the files myself in the right format.

Sorry guys and girls. "IF" I can restore them I will (y)  MD

It is with a very hurt and saddened heart that I inform you that my wife Margaret passed away in her sleep at home this morning after a brave, hard, year long battle against cancer.

I know there's a couple of members who knew or had met her in the past.

Sad, sad, day :'(

The History of the Middle Finger:   (y)

Well, now......here's something I never knew before, and now that I know it, I feel compelled to send it on to my more intelligent friends in the hope that they, too, will feel edified.
Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers. Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore they would be incapable of fighting in the future. This famous English longbow was made of the native English Yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as 'plucking the yew' (or 'pluck yew').
Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and they began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, See, we can still pluck yew! Since 'pluck yew' is rather difficult to say, the difficult consonant cluster at the beginning has gradually changed to a labiodentalfricative 'F', and thus the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger-salute! It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows used with the longbow that the symbolic gesture is known as 'giving the bird.'
And yew thought yew knew every plucking thing. Didn't yew!!  C:-) ;D :)) 8)

Techie Or Suggestions / CleanTalk spam guard
« on: February 07, 2019, 05:25:46 PM »
I've recently installed CleanTalk anti spam on the forum.
https://cleantalk.org/
It has a very easy to follow installation guide, what could be easier.
I'm well impressed by it, and at a reasonable price too.
Saves me and the mods a lot of manual work sorting out the legit sign ups from the spam ones.
If by chance you're a member of another forum and they are susceptible spam attacks, mention it to the admin on that forum.
It might help them out too  MD (y)
