Back to work we go!
(1/1)
Sorastro:
Yet another thing that's brought a wry smile to my lips...........
"Kate is to return to work but is on light duties"
Quite obviously there are different definitions of the word work.....The English dictionary states:-
WORK...activity involving mental or physical effort in order to achieve a purpose or result.
Now I'm not decrying the lass, it can't be easy for her or anyone in a similar situation, I just think they should drop the word work and replace it with the time honoured "Royal duties" because lets face it they don't exactly break into a sweat on these occasions
smithy266:
probably just dusting and hoovering...cleaning just the inside of windows..
Old Cruser:
I've just counted up and I've been working ( employed) for 60 years!!
Not counting the chores I had to do at home from the age of 11 years.
Giving my baby brother his orange juice before going to school ( age 11 years)
Scrubbing the kitchen floor before going to the Saturday film club in Chesterfield, making the coal fire, washing ( Poncho) and ironing - that was when we heated the irons up on top of the stove and I was shown how to spit on the iron to make sure it was hot enough before starting :))
It goes on ----- but I'll tell you what it's not done me any harm!!
Sorastro:
At the risk of the following sounding like a scene from the four Yorkshiremen.
In the mid 50's my eldest brother got up at the crack of dawn {every morning} took a small sack on an old pushchair and picked coal off the tips returned home then nipped to the shop for mum then after all that he would head to school and after school would walk back fetch another bag of coal and another trip to the shops interspersed with babysitting his younger brothers and sisters, after we were safely tucked up in bed then and only then could he do his homework. Then we wondered why he joined the army at sixteen.
You try telling the kids of today that...etc etc.
Old Cruser:
The eldest took a lot of responsibilities back then.
Does the same happen today I wonderl.
