Is it me, or has Sky News changed its format? You used to be able to scroll along the top line to get news, entertainment, weather, you account, my offers etc.....
Or has my son been fiddling with the telly settings again :(

Chesterfield Discussion / Ravenside Retail Park

Now that Hobbeycraft, & Asda Living have opened up, why has there been no adequate provision been provided for the extra traffic involved? Only one entrance on an already busy junction, and no adequate exit.
Today the Park Rd entrance to the site was gridlocked around lunch time.
Can't wait for the next 4 weeks - Oh Boy it's going to be fun >:(

Chesterfield Discussion / New Tesco in Calow
« on: April 08, 2013, 04:28:35 PM »
Just been to local shop and got presented with a petition to sign against the new proposed Tesco Express where the Somerset House Pub is.
I guess it was only a matter of time.....
Feel sorry for the local shops who will undoubtedly suffer - businesses that have been established many years which could quite literally face ruin overnight.
OK, theres 20 jobs up for grabs, but as many people could lose there jobs from existing shops.
Are Tesco as rampant all over the UK, or is it just Chesterfield?

General Discussion / My Wife in Hospital :(
« on: November 07, 2012, 08:07:52 PM »
My lovely Wife had a nosebleed Monday night - continued in to tuesday - took her to A&E and she's still there bless her. Hospital that is.
Blood pressure virtually off the scale, but no symptoms, i.e. headaches, blurry vision.
Various tablets have been given, but still BP too high.
Trying her on Ramipril tomorrow for a whole day to see if that has any effect.
Hopefully home for the weekend, if not before - I don't know yet.
For anyone out there who hasn't had their blood pressure checked recently then i urge you to do so.
It can mean the difference between a stroke, or normal life. My Wife had no idea. But then again high BP doesn't always come with symptoms. In a way it was "lucky" she had the nosebleed, otherwise the consequences could have been much worse.
I'm going to get mine checked out asap.

Chancellor buys a standard class ticket and plonks his fat ass in First Class.
Upper Class Twit. some kind of sweet revenge for Virgin train staff following their possible loss of franchise. No wonder they didn't let him off and made him pay to upgrade ;D

General Discussion / 9ct Gold Pocket Watch
« on: October 18, 2012, 07:53:10 PM »
I've recently inherited my Grandfathers Pocket Watch which I think he would have received on his retirement from Bryan Donkins sometime in the 50's.
It must have sat in my late Mum's safe for the last 30+ years. I wound it up carefully, just a couple of turns and it sprang to life, although it appears to lose 3-4 minutes a day.
I'm contemplating selling it - here's my dilema.
I dont want to sell it just for its gold content (28 grams) - there is a chain with it too which feels almost as heavy as the watch itself.
It is a Dennison watch - there is on on E-bay (virtually identical) - not auction- for £600.
I looked on a "cash for Gold" type website and they would offer £300+, and I guess if I throw the chain in as well, it could get nearer to £600.
I understand that the demand for this type of watch, fully working, could be low.
Its just a shame to sell it for scrap, which is my perception of the cash for gold schemes.
I may have to enquire with a few jewellers in town, or bung it on E-bay myself.
Anyone with suggestions?? q?

Chesterfield Discussion / Whats Going On In Calow?
« on: September 30, 2012, 11:11:44 PM »
Apparently (again) the rumour is that the former CMC site opposite the Somerset Pub is to be a new Tesco Express.
Fine - I can live with that.
However, there is a new proposed development on Dark Lane (where I live) from Seven Star Natural Gas Limited to drill exploratory bore holes, erect containerised units, associated plant and equipment, extract natural gas, generate electricity and ancilliary operations on land off Dark Lane, Calow. And it will be a 24/7 operation for up to 15 years.
Application Code :http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/environment/planning/planning_applications/current_applications/search_current/app-details.asp?AppCode=CM4/0812/53&AppType=2&searchBy=CM4/0812/53&intDataCount=1
We could do without this - its a single track road - no passing places to the proposed site so hardly any room for HGV's etc., and the ancilliary vehicles required to build this facility.
Oh yes we will protest - but there are not many houses down Dark Lane.
Lets hope we succeed :(

General Discussion / Abu Hamza,Babar Ahmad & Co extradition approved
« on: September 24, 2012, 08:27:07 PM »
Does anyone worry what will be the possible aftermath of these "alleged" supporters of terrorism's extradition to the USA could be?
Will there be inner city riots again?
There will undoubtedly be support within our shores for these people, misguided or not.
I will be glad to see the back of them.
My honest opinion.
Just a shame its taken so long.
Let's hope there isn't an outcry of support for these bisterds. q?

Chesterfield Discussion / Another bad winter on the cards
« on: September 24, 2012, 07:08:10 PM »
It makes you wonder after Spring this year by-passed Summer altogether and went straight to Autumn, what Winter is going to be like.
If we keep the same levels of precipitation that we've had so far this year, and the thermometer falls....
Sales of woolly hats & jumpers should be on the up at least ::)

Sport / John Sheridan relieved of his duties
« on: August 28, 2012, 05:43:34 PM »
Apparently John Sheridan is no longer team boss at Chesterfield F.C.
He signed a new contract at the end of last season, and apparently remains an employee of the club.
Tommy Wright is being given a chance to prove himself in the meantime.
Only 8 wins in the last 40 competetive league games.

Good move??
