Rants / Re: inconsiderate drivers and their parking habits
« on: October 06, 2022, 02:15:35 PM »
Went to chatsworth for a walk last week and, as usual, parked right at the end of the car park away from other cars. Came back and I was still the only car - except for one car that parked at the side of me, right up to my door....... WHY? 🤬

Whilst following, on the news, the proceedings of people paying their respects to the Queen I am truly amazed at these people.

Queuing for hours to walk past a coffin makes no sense to me, I mean why aren't these people at work?  It's not as though it's going to mean ten minutes out of their lunch break, tens of thousands of people with quite obviously nothing better to do than stand in line for hours for about 20 seconds of reverence, more so when they are dragging young children along with them. Do what Schofield did and queue jump, using his job as an excuse, or better still find something else to do.
I don't understand this massive outpouring of grief for someone that 95% of the people queuing have possibly never met in person. I saw her in person during her Silver jubilee trip to Chesterfield in '77, I'd taken the wife and mother in law to see her at my wife's request.

All it will mean to me is a new profile on coins and stamps and a new picture on the notes.

Off with his head!! 😂

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti royal - and neither am I pro royal (I'm splinter in the bum from sitting on the fence!) but, why on earth does it have to be on the major TV channels all day and every day?

My disabled sister knows she's died, but doesn't realise or understand the consequences. Therefore she can't understand why she can't watch her favourite programmes (Emmerdale & Coronation St).

Surely they could put all the 'specials' on to BBC2 and ITV2 where people who want to watch it can, and people who want to get on with life also can?

At the end of the day (it gets dark!) day to day life isn't going to change no matter who is sat on the throne (unless it's Putin).

Techie Or Suggestions / Re: Freeview
« on: August 21, 2022, 05:50:29 PM »
In Brockwell we have Freeview lite (in other words cr"p signal) where we only get a few TV channels, and if a dark cloud goes anywhere near the transmitter (old Robinson Goyt Side area) then the signal goes altogether.

I used to have Freesat (free satellite) but the good old Humax boxes are no longer in production. I did try the only remaining option (Freesat branded unit) and it was really badly designed and made.

My only option was to either:

1)jack the house up 20 feet or more, so I could get line of sight with Unstone.

or

2) swallow my pride and pay Sky.

Guess which option I (reluctantly) took?! Although I only pay for the 'Free to Air'  channels.

And just for the record Sky have just as many, if not more, repeats as Freeview!

Rants / Re: Binmen!!
« on: August 09, 2022, 11:13:41 AM »
On Tuesdays we have our bins emptied. Green and maroon one week and the black one on alternate Tuesdays.

Today it's the turn of the two bins, they have already emptied the garden waste green bin and left a load of leaves on the road outside our gate for me to clean up, no doubt the same will be said of the maroon bin when they empty that, as the last time they emptied it we came home from shopping to find a broken bottle and 3 tin cans outside our gate, again down to me. This it seems is a regular occurrence with the binmen nowadays, they obviously don't give a monkeys. At least the old binmen had a shovel on the back of the lorry and any spillage {usually fire ash} was quickly scooped up and put in the lorry.

No one seems to have any pride in their work nowadays. As with the old binmen and many other jobs then there were inspectors going round double checking that the jobs were being done properly.

Unfortunately, these days it's all down to how quickly they can get a job done for the cheapest price, with little or no regard to quality of service.

I have exactly the same oroblem, as I'm sure many residents do. On one occasion I saw a milk carton that had dropped on the floor, and all the operative did, was to kick it into the kerbside!

Now it appears the U.S.A. and China are squaring up to one another over Taiwan.

Not to be left out I think we should invade the Scilly isles and threaten them with our 1 ship, 3 aeroplanes and 4 tanks.

General Discussion / Holiday in Mallorca
« on: June 04, 2022, 09:09:40 PM »
Came back from a weeks holiday in Cala Egos, the hotel was perfect, the food amazing, and the surrounding areas were lovely.

Unfortunately it went t*ts up when we got to Palma airport for our return flight. Shortly after joining the queue all Doncaster passengers were told to leave the queue.
We were told our flight had been cancelled, and we would be placed in a (supposedly) 4star platinum Hotel on All Inclusive basis. Fine - but when we got there we were told it was full board and only drinks with meals were provided.
OK, the hotel had been refurbished and was clean, unfortunately the meals were pooor in terms of both choice and the fact they were only served tepid.

Added to that I bought (and paid for) a Baileys, but was served a cheaper Irish Cream, it took a lot of arguing with the bar staff to get them to serve me what I'd paid for.
Anyway, we got to the airport next morning and about 1 1/2 hours later we were on our way back home
We got back to Doncaster and got our taxi back home

ID like to say that was the end of it all, but over the next few days, all four of us tested positive for Covid! 😢

Despite everything we had a lovely holiday and were grateful we caught it at the end of the holiday.

Then take away the coffee shops and fast food outlets you will be left with nothing.

My wife and I went into town a couple of weeks ago (first time since Covid) and we couldn't believe how much it had changed - and not for the better (in our opinion).
