Chesterfield Discussion / Chesterfield F.C
« on: January 03, 2016, 06:13:55 PM »
Well done Danny in your first proper match in charge for Chesterfield F.C.!
We expected a tough game - but to run out 7-1 winners was outstanding to say the least.
Confidence in the players own abilities seems to have been instantly restored - just shows what a change in manager can do.
Danny has lived in Chesterfield for last 30 years or so, and had a successful spell in the team as a player when he was younger.
I reckon he will be the best manager we have had in a very long time - time will tell of course, but let's hope I'm right.
COYB!!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             (y)

Chesterfield Discussion / Somerset House Calow
« on: May 27, 2015, 07:14:27 PM »
It seems Tesco have won. Enterprise Inns have decided to lease the Somerset (& the Crispin @ Ashgate) to Tesco.
Enterprise Inns refused to finance cooked food sales in the pub, so it has struggled ever since.A deliberate refusal to invest in a once popular pub so that they can get a guaranteed income elsewhere.
It seems Enterprise Inns also refused to sell the pub to a couple of interested buyers who wanted to make a go of it.
Makes you wonder why?
I have no proof, but is there a business connection between Tesco & Enterprise Inns?
It seems strange that they wouldn't sell it outright to an independant purchaser. Tesco still (assuming they will eventually want to turn it into a retail outlet) have to overcome the local authority objections from their original planning request, which were quite large if memory serves me right.

Chesterfield Discussion / CAGE Calow
« on: January 07, 2015, 08:36:26 PM »
Seven Star Natural Gas (Alkane) have launched an appeal against the ruling to not allow drilling down Dark Lane in Calow to extract natural gas. I have the support of Dennis Skinner M.P. who has written to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government (Mr Eric Pickles), in the strongest possible terms.
If you would like to support us you can do by.

or e-mail Mr Dennis Skinner on skinnerd@parliament.uk.
The more the merrier.
We don't want a flame stack
We live on at best, a Victorian Rd
Pollution from diesel engines converting gas to electricity 24/7 for 15 years or more
Furthermore, our house prices in value will diminish dramatically

This is a wholly unsubstantiated industry with no background success or guarantee against failure - so close to houses too. We dont want subsidence or gas seepage in our houses, or damage to the underground water table.

Thanks for looking

Chesterfield Discussion / Avro Lancaster Bombers
« on: September 18, 2014, 07:18:22 PM »
The last two remaining airworthy Lancaster bombers (one of which has flown here from Canada) are due to fly from Coningsby to Derwent Dams on sunday. Weather permitting I guess. They are due at the Dams at 16.45.
I don't know if they'll fly over Chesterfield on their way, but I'm sure you'll hear them if they do. Eight 12 cylinder Merlin engines aren't that quiet!!
This gave me goosebumps. Watch it all the way through. Its the Dambuster Squadron (617) theme played at Lincoln Cathedral with a perfectly timed flyover of the British surviving Lancaster.
Turn it up & break out the tissues!

General Discussion / New Renault Clio Urgent Safety Recall Information
« on: September 11, 2014, 07:54:33 PM »
My lad recently bought a second hand 2013 Renault Clio from Evans Halshaw (Mansfield). Only 3500 miles on clock top of range with full sat nav, air con, cruise control etc.. Lovely car - looks a stunner.
I get a knock on door from postie today - recorded delivery from Renault UK. Urgent recall notice regarding problems with braking system.
So my son & I bounce calls off each other (he's @ work in sheffield - I'm off on a rest day), the upshot of it being Renault cant look at the car until 22nd Sept, expect him to keep driving in the meantime, & can't/won't offer him a courtesy car (he'd like one from tomorrow to be honest - driving to sheffield & back every day with possible brake failure at the back of your mind) yet Renault manufacturing is at fault.
So what are his options? I've spent since 3pm most of my time on the phone with Gordon Lamb Chesterfield, Renault customer relations (took ages to get through but at least it was an 0800 number), & finally I've e-mailed renault@vehiclerecalls.co.uk.
Surely they are obliged to provide a courtesy car - or at least compensate him for the alternative forms of travel he might have to use to get to sheffield & back.

Chesterfield Discussion / CALOW GAS EXTRACTION
« on: May 08, 2014, 05:34:28 PM »
Wish us luck on Monday 12th. Representatives from D.C.C. are visiting the site at approx 10.40 am prior to the meeting at County Hall Matlock.
Plenty of robust protesters will be there (I'm at work of course, but I'm sure I can rely on the Wife), - so we'll see what happens.
Baited breath.......

Is this right in our complete tolerance of foreign nationals in the workplace that they can dictate what they can do in case it upsets their " beliefs" ?

It seems the former Cavendish St Cinema is being redeveloped into some sort of retail outlet.
