Rants / Are we too impatient when driving?
« on: November 19, 2015, 11:09:25 AM »
2 stories from me now over the past 2 days

18/11/15.  I was turning left at a crossroad and a taxi that was turning right must not know the Highway Code as he just pulled straight out.  He did not have right of way.  Needless to say, I have his taxi number and have mentioned it to SCC, mainly due to his pathetic knowledge of road use.  I'm must say, the state of some taxi drivers driving leaves a lot to be desired.

19/11/15.  I was going through Gleadless on my way to work and on one of the roads I use, there were some cars parked on the right hand side and I could see traffic building up at the junction ahead.  I stopped before the cars in case traffic came the other way and they wouldnt be blocked from getting through.  So there I am, stopped and a stupid woman in a Fiat 500 overtook me!!.  Cue the red mist and if my OH wasn't in the car, id have overtook her and got out and asked her what the hell she was doing.

So are we getting more and more impatient and frustrated with other road users?  Personally my two annoyances are middle lane drivers and people who frankly cant be arsed to indicate at roundabouts.  I have a dash cam and can almost guarantee poor driving standards at least 3 times a day.

Or is it just me?

I really do wonder how some people passed their tests or are they putting them in Kellogs boxes again?

General Discussion / One for Barry (and other taxi drivers)
« on: September 09, 2015, 09:49:46 PM »
Caught this on my dash cam today and was wondering your opinions on if you think it was dangerous.  The road where it came from is left hand turn only, no traffic is permitted to do what he did.  Its quite regular that pedestrians cross when the lights are on green but thankfully it was fairly quiet.  I have the footage, car reg and licence number which I wont post here but im tempted to send it to Sheffield Taxi Licencing.  What do you think?

Im happy to post the video for a better opinion but it will take a while to upload.

General Discussion / Vulcans last ever flight
« on: September 02, 2015, 09:22:19 PM »
Nothing official yet but its rumoured to be 18th October this year.  And another rumour is she will be escorted by 9 red planes plus another Avro.  Just to reiterate, these are RUMOURS.

The weekend before, a planned North/South tour is supposed to be happening but they need £75000 in total funding for it, so im asking, if you go and see her flying please donate - even if its only a couple of quid.

I will post more when its confirmed.

General Discussion / A keyboard warrior plus a visit to the police
« on: February 23, 2015, 08:50:39 PM »
Last night there was a story on Facebook about a woman in Sheffield who was left without heating for 5 days.  One person commented 'sheffield shitty council' so I corrected them by stating it was actually the responsibility of Kier.  Cue these comments (and i apologise if anyone finds them offensive)

So my appointment with South Yorkshire Police is tomorrow as Im certainly not standing for that kind of unprovoked behavior.  He thinks im joking.  Maybe with his Facebook downtime, he could have some and spelling lessons.

Rants / Parking on pavements
« on: February 17, 2015, 12:59:12 PM »
Ive put this in Rants because its one of those things that really annoys me.

So does anyone agree with me that parking on any pavement should be banned?

In Sheffield, there are 2 specific areas where this happens that I know of  and I dont think it should be allowed to carry on.  Both these places are in front of shops and both places the cars parked are people who run/work in the shop.  I know this to be accurate as ive seen them first hand.

Admittedly one of these places doesnt block the pavement as its quite wide but pavements are for pedestrians, not cars!

I did Tweet South Yorkshire Police to ask advice and they told me to call 101 to report it but I dont want to be wasting their time with something like this.

Should I report it?

General Discussion / Litter
« on: February 09, 2015, 03:04:57 PM »
I was out and about today and had to deliver some stuff to Stocksbridge, on my way back I came off the M1 at J33, looked to my right and was totally disgusted by the amount of litter seemingly thrown through a vehicle window just because the lazy bastard cant be arsed to put it in a bin.

So it got me thinking, why not have a large container at the top/bottom of each slip road so the heavier items can be thrown in?  Granted, it wouldnt work for chocolate bars, crisp packets etc but its a start.

See you on Dragons Den...

Two simple questions

1: Why did they do it
2: Why arent they on a boat, with a hole, wearing lead boots?

Disgusting behaviour from so called 'adults'

General Discussion / Motorways and speeding
« on: January 16, 2015, 12:53:00 PM »
Just out of interest, how many of you know what is meant by the term 'average speed'

Im wondering as a lot of people dont seem to know this and many other things when using the Motorways.

Apparently the 50mph limit between J28 and J32 on the M1, has caught 16000 people going over the average of 50mph since they were installed.

Now i read that over 1500 people have been caught speeding on the M25 in the past 3 months since new cameras were installed there.  The gantrys show the limit in a red circle which means its a restriction, rather than a triangle which is an advisory.  So, ive no sympathy whatsover if these people dont understand road signage.

I really think that education on using motorways should be compulsary, but dont get me started on middle lane drivers (again)
