Good luck to both of you. :)

Apart from the health issues, you can save a lot of money if you are a heavy smoker.

I didn't bring back 200 packs of backa from Spain this year  :'(
This is a serious attempt, I've never tried before.

Tip for you mate, when you get started - weigh yourself once a week. A few folks that I know that used to smoke put on the pounds "comfort eating".

I'm currently 10st 12oz.
Eating sounds like a good idea, there's plenty of sugar free options I can consider.
Or even fruit  :o

Speaking as someone who is glad he never started smoking (because I know I would never have the will power to quit) best of luck to the 2 of you.

Good luck to you both, it will be the best thing you ever do.

As a ex smoker myself it was the best thing I ever did for myself that's for sure, I gave up the weed 36 years ago, when they only cost 50p for a pack of 20  ;D

Fly, Pete is right, you have to be careful not to replace one "addiction" with another. My wife "gave up" a couple of years back, but repaced the fags with those electronic type fags. So she does have some of the benefits, they aren't as bad for your health, not smelly / dirty, etc, but she is not much better off financially and the nicotine still has a grip on her.
Still, its a first step which is positive. Slowly slowly, catchy monkey, as they say. Good luck.

Sounds like a daft suggestion, but find something to do with your hands.   Ive heard that things like Xbox or playstation, knitting, model making etc can help as it keeps your hands busy and passes the time that would otherwise be taken up relaxing with a cigarette and book/telly.

Neither of us smoke in the house. If we want a fag, it's on the doorstep come rain, snow or shine.
In the evenings, I'm usually on the net, just nip out for a drag now and then. E-fag might cure that.

Our_Lass needs to stop. I don't want to, but I'm trying to be supportive for her, plus it's probably beneficial for my own health in the long run.
My main bug bear is during the day, boredom between fares. Smoke like a trooper.

I'm thinking this might help me personally. Well, I hope, don't want to use it as a excuse for not stopping.

I did it twice  ;D by delaying the time of my first ciggie of the day a little bit. To begin with, my routine was get up; kettle on, ciggie. I started by putting off the first one until I got to work, dealing with any craving by saying that I'd only have to wait a bit longer. Once that was ok I pushed the first one back a bit, to coffee break. Then lunch, then tea-time; after about six or eight weeks I was at the stage where I wasn't having my first one of the day until about 8 or 9 at night. At that point it seemed stupid not to stop completely. Thing is, inside you, you've absolutely got to need to stop. Just wanting to isn't enough, and folk who have will know the difference.

Been off them for about seven years or so, now, but for a long time after I'd wake up in the morning utterly convinced that I 'd had one the night before. I could even taste it, sometimes. A really peculiar feeling, but I suppose that's addiction for you.

Best of luck - willpower - to you both.
I really hope you succeed.
Let me know how you get on-I could do with doing it myself to be honest.
Smoking since 16 and now 53.
Not good is it??
Not sure if I could expect the full support of my family, as my wife and both children smoke (kids are 21 & 24).
My Mum recently died at only 77 yrs old from what can only be called as complications due to smoking.
I currently don't have a car so do walk a lot so get quite a lot of excercise, but smoking still concerns me.

Well done Stuart - sounds like you worked very hard at kicking this habit - you make it sound easy but I'll bet it wasn't!
Can I just say anyone who has ever loved and lost someone with cronic airways disease or any other smoking related condition would have maybe the strengh to give up fags.
I think TV should be showing the true life symptons in advertising - they put enough crap on there to put something helpful would be good ( well i think it would).
Or would others think it too graphic and upsetting?

Spoke to the nice lady from the NHS.
Our_Lass will be getting a letter to take to the doctors for a prescription for Champix.
I'm due a letter for my doctor for Zyban.

We're slowly running out of backa, how long does it take to make a doctors appointment ?
NHS ringing us back next Thursday to see how were going on.
Knew I may have as well gone to the doctors a week ago, every things just delayed now by a week :-(

F it, I'll by some Nicotine mints this weekend, try to cut down big style before I see the doctor next week.

Good luck you two.  I'm rooting for you, in fact we all are.  Big support network on here I imagine.

I gave up 12 years ago because I developed a wheeze.  I was waking myself up in the night with the noise!  I only had patches for a week, then decided to go cold turkey.  I was a bit hyper for a few days, but it settled down.  Strangely I never smoked a lot during the day but when I got into my car to leave work, I was always gagging for one then.  I had to find a way to combat that and I found playing heavy metal rock music at full blast numbed my head enough to dull the craving.  Did nothing for my ears though!  It must have seemed strange to some people as I pulled up at the traffic lights at the end of Loundsley Green Road - an old biddy playing Iron Maiden at full thrutch!

You develop your own strategies  :)

Should be picking my prescription up for Zyban tomorrow teatime.
Might start the course Wednesday.
Apparently I take it for a 6/7 days then stop smoking, and double my dose of it.
Cos it's in my system, the urges shouldn't be 'as' bad  :-X

Basically yes OC

Here's a description of both, Zyban(Me) and Chantix(Our_Lass)
Our_Lass can't have Zyban because of other medication she's on.
http://www.everydayhealth.com/smoking-cessation/nicotine-free-smoking-cessation-aids.aspx (http://www.everydayhealth.com/smoking-cessation/nicotine-free-smoking-cessation-aids.aspx)

I've got my Zyban tablets and am starting taking them in the morning. (Wednesday).
1 a day for the next 6 days, then 2 a day, as I posted earlier.

I'm planning on cutting down over the next 6/7 days, then stop all together next Wedneday, if I haven't already.
I can use patches, gum, e-cigarettes etc all I want as neither tablet is nicotine based.

Hey, I've only been smoking for 30 years, should be a piece of pi$$  ::)

Agitation
Depression and thoughts of suicide
Fits
And everything else they can fit on the literature  :)

Sorry peeps, meant to update last night.
Both started on the tablets Wednesday.
Were allowed to smoke as normal for the next week or so.
Strange sort of day, felt a bit 'high' at times :-)
Managed to skip a few un-needed fags though, so cut down a bit yesterday.
Side effects so far, giggles and stupidity, like a pair of kids.

Got up this morning, put the kettle on, had a fag, and bang. My head felt like I'd just been slapped.
Wide awake, and feeling guilty for standing there with a fag in my hand. Unreal  ;D
Had my cuppa, took todays tablet, got her up, had another fag, didn't really need it, just routine.
I'm been fine at work, just silly thoughts and grinning to myself,  I've been a bit busier, which helps.
Less time standing around wondering whether to have a fag or not.
From 6.00am this morning till getting home at 4.30pm, I've had 15 fags  :o
That's about half of what I usually smoke  8)

Not sure what's in these tablets, but apparently it's perfectly normal the way we are feeling  O0
and much better than drifting the other way and feeling miserable, down, sulking, suicidal etc  :)

More tomorrow  :)

Edit: Originally I said:
Quote
Our_Lass needs to stop. I don't want to, but I'm trying to be supportive for her
The tablets are seriously changing my mind, (in more ways than one)
I'm actually looking forward to stopping now  :o

Had 12 fags up till now today.
3 whilst still at home this morning. 6-7.30am
6 at work, got home at 4.45pm
3 more since, treat myself for being good all day, plus I've had a tinny  ;)

I know it's the tablets, but I'm finding it a lot easier than I thought.
Our_Lass has had 6 fags all day  :)

Just had my 2nd fag of the day. Well about an hour ago.

I've been getting more and more depressed as the day has gone on, and Our_Lass had just commented on it to me.
She's scared I'm going to suffer a depressive breakdown or summat because of the Zyban.
The meds say stop smoking during the second week of the course.
Cutting down drastically is one thing, going against the medication advice and trying cold turkey is another.
So, I've put my stop date back to next Wed/Thurs, and staying on my, 'a few fags a day', routine for now.

Must admit, I'm back to the bouncy feeling 'high' again.

Still a great achievement from 40/50 a day  :)

Second day of double meds and I'm craving fags even more. But . .
I've resisted temptation and had about 15 fags tuesday, probably same today.

Bought an e-cigarette sunday from Tesco.
Our_Lass thought sod it this morning, 8.00am ish and had a blast instead of a fag.
Overall, she's had about 5 blasts on it till now, 6.30pm, and hasn't had 1 fag.
Well impressed XXXX

Think I'll get myself one this weekend and try to get my 15 fags a day down even further.

May be worth a go Flyboy - if only to save money. My mate packed fags in a couple of years ago, but still smokes an electric fag because there are more harmful chemicals in the act of burning the tobacco than the nicotine itself - and he says he is saving shed loads of dosh.

BTW Did you get a Rubik's cube yet?

Our_Lass has gone 2 days without a fag now  ;) Well done  :-*

I've been spacing my cigs 2 hours apart, if needed. Sometimes I can go 2 1/2 hours.
I'm getting an e-cig tomorrow, hopefully it'll replace the few fags I've been smoking.
Fingers crossed  :)

Just got to thin out the e-fag drags then, and get shut of the nicotine addiction.
At least I won't be smoking.

Yes - well done to Margaret for going without. :)

A doctor once told me that there are three milestones in packing in smoking, the third day, the third week and the third month - all of which are times that folks give in.

So it's worth congratulating yourself or Margaret when each milestone is passed.

Mags on day 3 of no fags, not bad considering she forgot her tablet this morning.
A few puffs on the e-fag are getting her through.

Me, had a fag at 6.15am this morning. Had another before my school run 7.45am.
Called at Tesco in Notts and bought an e-fag.
Haven't had another fag all day, and ain't missing it that much.
The e-fag is just enough to get me through. Hopefully tomorrow will be my first smoke free day in probably 30 years :-)

Cheers for the support peeps  :-*

Another smoke free day by both of us  :)

Work tomorrow, think we might cope with it  ;)
Neither of us taking any fags with us, so basically can't have a fag if we wanted one.
Just the e-cigs  ;)

Getting there.  Day by day.  :)

Still both smoke free  :)
@OC May have two holidays next year  :)
One abroad earlier in the year, and another in August, possibly Cornwall. We'll see.

Well done you two!
Cracked it I guess.
Makes it so much "easier" when you both agree to attempt it at the same time.
Tell me off if "easier" is not the right word.
Has it been as easy as you thought when you initially had the idea - or not, and what do you think, if anything, could make you relapse, bearing in mind you've both stopped, and if one of you has a sneaky fag, t'other one will smell it on you?
Again, Big Congrats to you both :) :)

No re-lapse, it just isn't happening.
House now void of fags, bacca, papers, rolling machines, and any other smoking paraphernalia  ;)

We've both got prescriptions for another couple of weeks tablets.

I found it easier than I thought it would be. Think it's the Zyban  ^-^
Our_Lass, let's say coping just. On edge though  :-*

Come on Flys our_lass you can do it - and Fly says he's taking you on two holidays next year - which means you get to buy more clothes to take with you as well with the fag money  ;)

Co-ordinator - blimey it's sophisticated these days this stopping smoking lark isn't it.
Good idea though and sounds as if it's working.
Well done

Coordinator was just a term I used, bit more like a 'Stop Smoking' support person LOL
We're probably just two people on statistics that the NHS Stop Smoking Service is working  :)
Both still fag free  :)

Personally, I've been a bit down the last couple of days  :(
I'm feeling guilty when I use the e-fag to suppress the few urges a day I get.
I've stopped smoking,  but now have a nicotine addiction, which I had before  >:
So therefore I feel like I haven't gone anywhere !
Apart from breathing in the Carbon Monoxide, tar, and the other 4000 chemicals supposedly in fags.

Our_Lass says "Use the e-cig all you want, at least your not smoking."
Perhaps it's just me, never thought I'd get this far  8)

You will do it.  :)

Think I'm depressed cos I ain't using the e-fag as much as I should.

Look on the bright side, still not had a fag  O0
Ok, so this isn't so easy !

According to all the bumph for 'Stoptober' anyone staying ciggie free for 28 days is 5 times more likely to quit for good.So you are half way there already.
Well done, keep going
Title: Re: The stopping smoking thread :-(
Post by: Fly on October 04, 2012, 09:18:31 PM
Seen the bumph JR,
ZYBAN, don't laugh. This stuff rocks, and I've got enough tablets for another 3 weeks.
Down side. If you hit a low, you feel low big style  :(

But I/we haven't had a fag for a fortnight.
By my reckoning, that's pretty good. If not amazing  ;)
Title: Re: The stopping smoking thread :-(

Title: Re: The stopping smoking thread :-(
Post by: handy on October 05, 2012, 08:21:40 PM
If you can stop for a fornight you can stop for good, its all down to your will power now being stronger than your cravings, its hard just dont let temptation make you try a cig, i stopped once before in my twentys for 2 years and thought i could smoke just a couple a day but  2 became 5 etc and after a month i was back to 30 /40 a day.
Title: Re: The stopping smoking thread :-(
Post by: Fly on October 05, 2012, 08:40:58 PM
That's the trap we don't want to fall into.
I mentioned to our_lass at the start of this attempt, if we treat it like a heroin addiction, one hit could be the end.
No surrender, no retreat :-) Just say 'NO'  8)

Jeez, I'm starting to sound like the proverbial smoker that stopped and knows what's best for everybody else  :P

Well done the both of you, in a way it is an addiction you suffer the withdrawel symptoms. Normally you feel stressed or down you light up thats what you have been used to. Just a matter of finding something else to help...I suppose (heard it before) Its also finding somethng to do wth your hands ??! I dont know, anyway keep it up the both of you

Or rolling a cocktail stick between my fingers. Tooth pick etc lol

I've dropped the morning tablet, just having one at tea time.

I've no intention of smoking again, and hope the 1 happy tablet a day will see me through the cravings.

Ok. We started a couple of weeks earlier.
If you can go 28 days without smoking, you're 5 times more likely to quit completely.
As far as I'm concerned, we've both stopped.

Think the E-Cigs have made the difference.
Some days I only have a drag 3-4 times. Other days 10-12.

But I'm/we aren't smoking  :)

TBH I don't feel any better or worse healthwise. Our_Lass says I'm coughing less in a morning  ;D
Never realised I did cough lots in the mornings  ::)

Folk keep asking me if I'm eating more, I keep saying no  ;)

6.00am Big mug of tea and an Arrowroot biscuit, apparently they help heartburn/indigestion, which I woke up with.
8.30am threw up. Just acid, no tea or biscuit  q? How's that then.
9.30am Ham cob.
9.45am Bag of SeaBrook Beefy crisps.
10.30am Couple of Arrowroot biscuits
11.15am Dark chocolate Bounty  >; Love em  :)
12.15pm Ham cob
12.30pm Bag of SeaBrook Beefy crisps.
1.00pm ish, saw Emmz in the bus queue opposite the rank.
1.15pm 2 x 2 finger dark chocolate Kit-Kats, and a 250ml can of Emerge energy drink.
2.00pm Couple of Arrowroot biscuits
2.45pm Bag of beef Hoola Hoops
4.15pm First drag of my E-Fag  ;)
6.00pm 3 rashes bacon, new potatoes, peas, smothered with Tesco slightly salted butter.
Plus a few tinnies since about 5.00pm onwards.
That's not excessive is it  q? q? :))

Just got the scales out. A month ago I was about 10st 12.
I'm now about 11st 4/5  8)

I'll start to panic if I hit 12st. I've never been 12st in my life and I'm 6' 3"  ;)

I think weight gain is normal too as you are making up for not having the fags, but to be fair your quite slim for your height so im sure for now it wouldnt hurt but docs may say dont eat to excess lol.
I did see you munching away in tha car after we spoke, nice to see you btw :)

I put of quite a bit of weight when I packed the fags in.

Look at it this way, if you can pack the cigs in, losing the extra weight should be pretty easy in comparison

Good on you both

Excessive??????    Nah, but it's not a balanced diet.   Now, if you were to have 2 x dark chocolate bounties in one hand and 2 Kit-kats in the other, that should equal things up ;)  Lol

Apart from the arrowroot biscuits, that's a normal work day for me  :D

As regards the weight,
in the bathroom on lino I'm 11 2
on the landing on carpet I'm 10 10
in the kitchen on cushioned flooring I'm 10 12
on the concrete on the back yard I'm 11 4

Getting sick of the belt buckle rubbing under the gut trying to creep out above it  :(
Yes the jeans still fit, but don't seem a normal fit anymore.

Yes I am eating more. In general, just larger portions.
Before I'd leave a few chips or some potato.
Now I'm cleaning every plate, and enjoying the taste, food, and smell of it.

This isn't doing my self esteem any good, Our_Lass thinks, I'm 'on one'. I saw what the weight probs did to my dad  :(
Catch 22 for me, I hope not. Smoke or weight gain !

Fly ask the wife to put smaller portions out for you and buy in lots of fruit yogurts etc to snack on, I know how difficult it can be in your type of work nearly every taxi driver I have ever known has struggled with weight, some try golfing to keep the pounds of - but I suppose that can be expensive (never been so no idea).

Another call from Janice(coordinator) tonight.
She's well chuffed we're still both not smoking, even after stopping taking the tablets earlier than most.
The heart burn sound's like it's more related to me, and not the tablets as such.
May have aggravated problems I had years ago that I thought had cleared up.

Get some carrots and celery and cut them into cigarette sized slices and put in a plastic box with a couple of ice cubes.
The action of taking one out of the box and holding between two fingers is similar to taking a fag out of it's box.
Don't eat straight away but treat it like a fag, works for me.

My cousin's funeral, Monday, was the first time me and Our_Lass had been in a pub, drinking, since quitting smoking.
Our_Lass never touched her E-Fag all night, I had one drag, indoors.
Purely as a demonstration to another cousin, who'd never seen one.

Yes, officially I could have, 'smoked' it indoors, it's not smoking, but it felt wrong.
I never got the 'urge' to smoke, or go outside for a fag  :)

Janice(coordinator) phoned tonight, she's still well impressed with us both, and isn't phoning again till a week before xmas.
I'm going to un-stick this topic, can't see me or Our_Lass cracking after 9 weeks.

We'd both like to thank you for all your support and messages.
It's helped me loads personally. I'd hate to think I'd shouted or opened my gob on here about stopping smoking,
then let you all down  :'(

then let you all down  :'(

To be honest mate it wouldn't have mattered two toots on a tin whistle (one of Dad's favourite phrases) if you'd let us down. The IMPORTANT thing would have been letting yourself and our_lass down!!!

@ Fly - do the Tesco efags smell like cigarettes? I'm using Totally Wicked and there's no smell at all, but a friend's missus said she'd sat next to someone using an efag and it made her smell like she was sat next to an actual smoker. I think she's talking b*ll*cks (she does a lot of the time) but only have experience with TW.
Title: Re: The stopping smoking thread :-(
Post by: Fly on November 27, 2012, 08:06:51 PM
www.nicolites.com (http://www.nicolites.com) are the ones that Tesco sell.
The tobacco flavour ones do not give off a 'smell' of anything. Trust me  ;)
I've blown vapour into my mothers face sat in her conservatory, she let's me 'smoke' in the house now.
The Menthol ones do give off a smell of menthol, they also clear your nose if your bunged up  ;)

Perhaps the person with the efag was wearing a coat/jacket or clothes that had been worn in a smoking environment.

Been talking to Pete about this report. A though came to mind after reading this bit.

Quote
Britton said: "If a manufacturer makes a health claim for anything then it becomes a drug, and drugs have to be regulated with tight controls. The current nicotine replacements are sold as drugs; however, e-cigarettes contain nicotine but get around this by making no health claim and so can be sold freely, but with little or no information on safety or standards. What we're asking for is a regulation change to bring all nicotine products into a light-touch regime that will guarantee reasonable purity and safety standards but make them as available as cigarettes in a shop."

Our_Lass is on a medication, there are two different tablets in the same blister pack.
She get's charged a double prescription charge. 2 meds, £7.65 x 2

My nocolites come in a pack of 3, on the same blister pack  :o
If the gov, (who ever is in gov, not a tory bash), make nicotine replacement aids a drug, possibly by prescription,
they could buy the carts for £6.95 from Nicolite, and charge me £22.95 in prescription charges.

So yes, the gov might save 100millions by getting people to smoke, i'll say, an healthier alternative.
And still hit them in costs they are losing out in fag revenue.

I may be rambling, but I'm sure you get my drift.
Me personally, I'll be off the e-fags in my own time, and hope all this wont affect me.

Finally went to the doctors yesterday about the heart burn.
Am now on stomach acid blocker tablets. Only took 2, but feel better already.
I've put on 9lbs in 11 weeks.
At 6' 3" that doesn't bother me, or the doc.

Still not smoking, either of us :-)

12 week now. No heart burn, and feeling quite well.
Apart from the runny nose, sore throat etc.
Usual winter cold things.

Our_Lass is considering the doctors for the heart burn tablets too.
Waking up at 2-3.00am with heart burn isn't good.

thought it was available all over the country Peps - for free travel anyway. In other words although you have a Derbyshire County Council gold Card ( I presume), it does not stop you using in other parts of the country. The Yorkshire one, please be MORE specific.
Do you mean the Sheffield City Council one or other ?
Yorkshire covers a bigger geographical area.
The different councils offer different services.
Derbyshire County Council offer greatest benefit.

Food, always loved the smell of it, just didn't have the inclination to eat it. So I didn't. Boring.
Now, still smells fine, no inclination to eat it it, but I can with no repercussions. Heart burn etc. So I do :-)

Whilst waiting to have my gall bladder removed a few years ago I was on a low fat diet of fish, jacket potato, chicken, salad etc etc, and I lost around 2 stones. When I went in for my op I was told that, although I no longer have a gall bladder I would still have the propensity to make gall stones  :o , so I should reduce my fat intake on a permanent basis.

I've generally gone along this but do allow myself 'luxury' items (eg butter, red meat, ice cream etc etc) and also now have larger portions - the strange thing is that, of the 2 stones I lost, I've only put about ½ stone back on.

@ alsatian my daughter had gall stones, but as she couldn't have anasthetic removing them was out and the Dr didn't want to give her meds to try and flush them out as because of her disability they would have made life even more difficult for her. Dr suggested she try a low fat diet which she did and found it worked for her and she is now pain free she also avoids eggs.

The best diet/plan to follow is 5 a day.
I have my 5 a day for breakfast, then more I have during the day is FREE food.
I do NOT have bread, potatoes or cake.  I DO have LOTS of FRESH fruit & veg.
Cheaper, simpler for my active life.  I DO go to the gym EVERYDAY - it were closed christmas day
but I have a treadmill in the garage !!!
Just DO more.  Get off the bus a stop earlier.  Use the stairs NOT the elevator - lots of simple things
like that

I'm supposed to stop taking the tabs 7 days before seeing the doctor on the 14th Feb.

Bit of googling, and commom sense, says 1 or 2 of these a day SHOULD have a similiar effect.
Our_Lass is going to guinea pig this for the next week. If she's Ok, I'll trial run them and sod the doctor.

Correct Simon.
Indigestion is acid in the stomach. Heart burn is a build up of acid that starts to come back up your gullet. Reflux.
Me and Our_lass are both producing too much acid. Hence the heartburn.
The meds stop your body producing as much acid.
Ranitidine just stops the receptors in your stomach releasing the acid, temporarily.

Oh dear Fly, was our lass in that state because of  stopping smoking or is it like an after effect of the stuff she takes to help her not to smoke. Sounds like a nightmare coming off them if that is the case. Give her a hug from me. How brave you both are to continue with it as well

You should suggest Lanzoprazole. I've had ongoing acid problems and these tablets are brilliant for it

Small result.
Our_Lass has got a repeat prescription of Lanzoprazole.
I'm on Omeprazole. Happy bunnies and still not smoking :-)

National no smoking day Wednesday 13th March.

Will probably be the first one I can remember that I won't have a fag. Our_lass too  ;)

Step 2: Quit the E-Fag.

Just 3 drags last Sunday night, and 3 drags Wednesday night  ;)
Feel like cracking now, but will aim for another 2 E-Fag free days  :-X

Well done Fly keep going. Hows Margaret doing?
We have been on a bus today, don't use them often but I noticed a poster saying E-fags were not allowed to be used on the bus.

I cracked tonight LOL  :D
It's not a fag and it's not smoking.
Don't feel bad for having a drag or 2 though. 7 months without a fag.

@OC: Me and Mags had a few puffs whilst sat in the bar area on hols. No one said a word  :-X
I don't understand why they are banning usage of E-Fags in public places  ::)

Do they give off some kind of vapour or smell Fly? I only know what you have said on here as I have never smoked
Title: Re: The stopping smoking thread :-(
Post by: Fly on May 03, 2013, 08:55:44 PM
Yes OC, the vapour looks like smoke, but it's actually water vapour, and It doesn't smell.

Yes it was JR, instead of holding it in his hand and blatantly smoking it, he bent down and had a drag of it in a holdall.
Someone saw the 'vapour' and phoned the emergency services !!! Crazy world  :-X

Don't bother,I'm just another down trodden unappreciated bus type steering wheel attendant open to all kinds of abuse, even on his days off by the likes of your good self, who doesn't even use a bus, so therefore should not comment on things that he not knoweth about.
Try spending a day with a bus driver to see what he/she has to deal with - its a challenge I'll tell you.
Feel another "cough" coming on, and Venos is not the solution.
I'll get you at playtime Pete :P

Posted this last night, just realised, it didn't post  ::)

Lasted 4 days without a drag of the e-cig, had 1 drag last night, cos I can  ;)
Can't see me using it in a few weeks time  :)

Our_Lass can carry on as she wishes, I'm not rushing her. 8 month without a fag. Respect  :-*

We've both put about a stone each on since last September, thankfully we can both carry it.
We weren't, 'overweight', before.  <- Trying to be cautious there  ;)

Looking forward to a drag of my e-fag tonight. Only had 1 puff all week   :)
Then again, I might not bother, we'll see  :-\

I take you you still get the urge then Fly as you are looking forward the the drag on the e-fag?
Daughters been trying for years kick the habit she's had gum (lowest dosage) for ages. Came back from my hols to see her with a patch on. Seems she called in 'somewhere' can't remember where she said and they are helping her hence the change to a patch?
Don't understand the ins and outs of it all as never smoked.
Enjoy your e-fag anyway

Didn't touch it after all  :)

Deffo see more and more people walking around with e-fags or vapour sticks.
There must be a lot of people finally trying to quit smoking.
Wonder when VAT is going up to make up the shortfall in cigarette tax revenues.
I've always said it, everybody will pay for it.

In light of the news that we are to reclassify as medicine - will this mean efags will be withdrawn from the market until the legislation is in place?

If it does, then to lots of folks trying to pack in smoking it will be a right kick in the whatsits.

2 more week and we will hit the without a fag for a year stage. Cant wait TBH  :)
The events of the last 12 month mean we can cope without cracking on a re-occurance of an event.
Family funeral, xmas, airport delay, holiday, pub, shopping, fishing, school holidays, boredom at work,
general work and life in general etc, been there, got through it.
Neither of us have put any more weight on which is good.
I've not used the e-fag probably since my last post, 3 month ago.
Mags has the occasional drag sometimes in the evening, so what  ;D

Just thought I'd update you all  ;)

May be an added incentive to offenders - don't think you can smoke inside , cos you can't!!
Makes prison a bit less attractive to regular offenders.
Makes their stay at prison a bit less "enjoyable" if they can't smoke.

God forbid if I had ever got locked up and not been allowed to smoke. I'd be raging, nowt to lose  >;
I think after a year of not smoking, my attitude has changed. I'd  hate to be seen as a hypocrite though.
So I'm being careful with my posts in this thread  ;)

I think a smoking ban in jail could significantly reduce crime. The hard men tend to be hard on an aggressive level, but nicotine is very addictive - losing it could scare them.

On the other hand I note that even in countries that chop your hand off for thieving, they still have thieves.
Title: Re: The stopping smoking thread :-(

It's a good point Pete, but don't people who commit crimes think 'it's the perfect crime and they won't get caught'
I reckon they would need higher levels of prison officers if this went through

I always applaud those who have unshackled themselves from the "dreaded weed" the longer you have been a smoker the harder it must be. I didn't start smoking till I was 19, baring in mind in those days everyone seemed to smoke, even the adverts hinted you weren't a man if you didn't smoke. I was on about a 12/16 per day, not excessive by others standards and I had quit by the time I was 24 I believe the average to be around 20 per day. I once worked alongside a chain smoker who's minimum intake was 140 p/day!

I stopped smoking at my wife's insistence as she was expecting our second child and so I made the effort and stopped for the kids sake, and I haven't touched one since. The very last cigarette I had was the day she was born, last month she celebrated her 44th birthday.

I started smoking (slyly!) when I was still at school (around 13/14yrs) and stopped when I started going out with my now wife (Sept 1976). We've been married 43 years and until relatively recently still had occasional hankering for a fag.

Well done Fly!
