Entertainment / St Helens Local History Exhibition

St Helens Local History Group Exhibition takes place this weekend at ChristChurch Stonegravels.
Saturday 8th Sept 10 - 4 and Sunday 9th 11 - 4. Special feature this year are education/schools in the st Helens area and includes St Helena, Boys Grammar School and the Technical College. Other areas of interest in the Stonegravels area are also on display. Refreshments available.

The Elms / Elm Farm, Bright Street, North Wingfield is the topic of Restoration Home on BBC2 on Wednesday night at 8pm. A friend of mine has been involved as the local historian. Might be good.

Chesterfield Discussion / Accident at the Chesterfield Hotel

There seemed to have been an accident on the little roundabout by the Chesterfield Hotel at about 11am today :. Police cars and ambulance (and a taxi) and someone lying by the roundabout but obviously having been made "comfortable". No panic at all. Does anyone know if the person, maybe a pedestrian was/is ok?

The War Memorial was rededicated today after two new plaques have been added. One plaque records the 23 Newbold men lost in World War Two, the other local lad Ben Ford who was killed in Afghanistan.

Does anyone know what's happening at the local recycling areas? They seem to be being done away with. Noticed last week that the one on Loundsley Green had gone and today saw that the one at Holme Hall had disappeared too. Is it anything to do with the blue bins?

A friend of mine, a gentleman in his seventies, is interested in creating a web site to publish some of his extensive local research. He is pretty with it having just written and published a book but needs some advice on the technical stuff. Any ideas where he could start? Any help much appreciated.

I'm a newbie and already after info!
I am trying to find information on pubs (dead or alive) in the Stonegravels area ie Sheffield Rd / Newbold Rd and surrounding area for our local history group. If anyone has any memories, stories, or photos that they would be willing to share then I would love to hear from you.
