Chesterfield Discussion / Re: Trumpeter getting new lease of life?

Should have clarified, 2 building one close to where I live other close to where I work, both built late 80s now going going gone.
Interestingly, Arnold Clark motors on the old Tesco seem to have demolished everything except the original framework of the building which they seem to be using in construction of a showroom

Going to be smaller and a daytime cafe.

The owner of the whole plot has a good retail track record.

As with the old Tesco next to where I work, I remember The Trumpeter being built. Must be 35 years ago

Business founded by relative of some regular contributors on here !

School budgets are more protected than rest of the public sector. £1M off highway maintenance budget this year.

Can solve anything with infinite budget; could cure my flood issues by building a a dome over the north eastern chunk of Derbyshire  ;D

However we are in the real world so any suggestion of alternative things to cut?

Like I  said before politics dictate that you cut something that can be seen to have a 'social' effect so that the blame can be placed elsewhere. In answer to Slackers question it's perfectly obvious what has happened. Someone in Ivory Tower department A decides Road is dangerous to cross, crossing patrol person is utilised. Someone in the 'ivory tower department B decided road is still dangerous to cross outside of school coming and going hours so they instal a pelican. Trouble is dept b either don't tell dept a what they have done or dept a don't have the sense to redeploy the crossing patrol. Hence now there are so many that have to go.

When i was a governor at Whitecotes the speed limit was reduced from 40 to 30 and a pelican installed hence no need for a lollipop person. Seen to think they were employed by the police at one time. Sensible approach would be to hand the service over to schools to make their own mind up whether they need the service, they have the local knowledge. they could decide whether to fund it or perhaps decide to go with more cost effective option of using someone from their own staff as realisticallyat home time they probably only need 15 minutes

Lay the blame where it is, at the government that has taken £157M off the county council

The pothole problem will get worse because almost everything on the roads is now surface repairs rather than any full depth reconstruction, Something's got to give

I don't know why they ever went on light controlled crossings in the first place

I was trying to think of the name of that pub the other week. Remember going to it some years ago, nice setting.

There was also the Hideaway on Highstairs lane which converted to a private house

Get a different angle on what's happening politically to counter what we are fed from the mostly right wing media

Chesterfield Discussion / Re: Any Bikers On Here?
« on: June 18, 2015, 06:52:52 AM »
Bikers View was run from a private house at Mickley with the back garden overlooking Ogston reservoir. They took part in charity events and estate litter picks, one sponsored event was a ride from Matlock Bath wearing a mankini ! They also sold breakfasts with proceeds going to charity. Unfortunately this lead to them falling foul of planning laws, or an excuse to get at them due to a complaint (not from immediate neighbours) and restrictions were put on the number of visitors etc. I think there may also be a pending court case. I understand they moved to the Royal Oak rather than have all the hassle.

8 lanes I think. Like it or not, swimming clubs are a major source of income due to being regular users. The already do competitions but it needs a bund putting across for reaces so obviously if you start from scratch i's someting to eliminate

Slightly shorter because 25M is acceptable for competitions but 33 isn't
