How close are we to the sea?

Walking along Brockwell Lane this morning and there was a double deck open top bus on service 39 (Holme Hall)!!  ???

It was on the 10's last saturday (Newbold Circular).
Don't know why,unless its just for novelty value - kids love it thats for sure, along with the inevitable bus spotting anorak brigade!!
I know its had a very expensive refurbishment lately.
I beleive it used to trundle round Cleethorpe many moons ago before it came to Chesterfield.

Goimg back to the title of the thread, according to Countrywise a farm in south Derbyshire is the furthest from the sea you can get (around 72 miles in a direct line)

Saw that programme Andy.
Didn't Morton? used to brag about being the center of the UK?

Also fancy visiting Pleasley Colliery.
But their website says they're only open Thurs and Sun during winter.
9am to 1pm, subject to volunteer availability

Furthest from the sea is only same as centre if the country is a perfect circle. I had heard the centre was somewhere near the Red Lion at Stone Edge

The Red Lion was more complicated that just a flat map measurement.
The theory was if you could lift mainland Britain into the air and balance it on a point then, bearing in mind that the Scottish Highlands  would weigh more than Lincolnshire and East Anglia etc, where would that balance point be.
The claim was that it would be in a field just opposite the Red Lion (they actually planted a flag there for many a while to mark the point.)
It was later proven that this point was actually in Lancashire although the actual spot varies depending on whether you include Islands or not.

Actually we are 98 miles from the sea if you're travelling to Scarborough!!!!

Went there Sunday morning, set off at 7:30 and was parked up on South Cliff at 9:30 - no traffic to speak of!! Set off back this afternoon at around 14:00 - took the 'usual' 2¼ hours! 8)

Apart from a few spots of rain on Sunday and it being a little cool, the rest of the weekend break was amazing. Got a KGB voucher for a 2 night B&B stay at Mansion House (5 star accommodation) for £99 - actual price of hotel should have been £192!! Thanks to my daughter for finding the voucher for me!  :D

Me an' SWMBO are "braan as berries!!"  8)
