Derbyshire Times going up!!
« on: August 31, 2012, 02:17:22 PM »
Picked up my copy of the DT this week, only to be told that, from next week, it's going up to 85p!!!

That's a huge increase to pay (20%), just to look at the 'head & shoulders' section!  8)

The last gasps from a dying institution?

They never jumped on the Internet bandwagon, just ignored it, but it didn't go away.

Now they will reap as they have sown.

I think there will always be a small market for the printed paper, but even that will die out as non-web folks get older and die off.

It's probably too little too late. IMHO

For a few weeks they have been advertising pre=pay vouchers at 48p per edition; not looked into finer details

I think what they charge for Obituaries etc is way excessive.
I also think this reflects in the number of said entries in the last few week editions.
There also seems to be a major lack of said entries on the online pages.

Can't see me buying it for much longer.

Must admit I fail to understand the morbid obsession with obituaries. As long as I see myself in the mirror every morning, I'm a happy bunny.

If someone I half-knew died, I'd hear about it eventually - and if someone important died it would be all over the papers and on Twitter.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I live in Boza Pete, yes I know you know that  ;D
I work in town full time 5 days a week. I don't go out round Boza drinking or socialising.
The only time I see friends/ex work mates, in Boza is on a Saturday morning when were shopping.
I'd hate to bump into an old pit mate and say, how's y' day, only to find out he'd died the week earlier.

Not morbid, just keeping up to date. Saddly, this ain't happening with the DT anymore.

how's y' dad
