Transferring on to a disc or USB
« on: February 13, 2016, 05:42:37 PM »
I'm stuck!

A friend is helping me with 'talking history' by his mother.
It's been recorded on his MP3
He has emailed quite a few  conversations to me and I can down load and listen to it via  Media Player.

I'm wanting to transfer it onto a disc or USB ( the whole lot ).
Is it possible?
Or would I be better just buying a small tape recorder?

Should be easily possible to transfer them to a decent sized usb memory stick and thats probably the best way as you can add\remove stuff far easier than a CD\DVD.

If he has emailed them to you then you have them as an MP3 file that you can download from the email and save to any location on your PC which will include the USB stick\drive you have connected to the PC.

Thanks bransoj.
What I am wanting is to link all the recordings as they are being spoken -  into one?

I can't do it as it's playing from the media player.
Sorry not good at explaining this

Not something i'm an expert on but i would suspect there should be some sort of free software knocking about that allows you to join separate MP3 files into one large MP3 file. I had a quick google and nothing stood out but there were lots of options. What you may need to be careful of is making the file very big so it then becomes difficult to move around should you need to. Its potentially worth having mutiple smaller files to make that easier depending on what your plan is once you have them joined.

Thank you bransoj.

It is to be used for our local history society as in the memories of what our village was like and it's people over 90 years ago.
I need to collect it all together and pass it one, which is where the 'How can I do this' question is from.
In it's present form of short conversations although valuable information it's not easy to go through - talking about 20 plus recordings.

I may go into Curry's and see if they have a magic piece of equipment - will post if I find one!

'Audacity' is the program you need OC. I use it to take clips from songs to make short ringtones for phones etc.
If you get stuck trying to do something, just google the problem starting with the word audacity.
IE: audacity join two tracks

What a day!
Despite multiple trying of different ways to move the recordings over nothing worked.
I went into the manual which told me Audacity wasn't compatible with MP3. It gave me a link to down load to enable me to transfer.

I downloaded and it completely took over my Lap Top.

I tried two system restore points which were both unsuccessful.

Eventually after trying to get Google Chrome back as my home page it gave me an option to disable the link.
Phew - got all my stuff back but won't be using that link.

Thinking cap back on!

Not sure what you clicked but I've never been hijacked  :(
My 'Audacity' setup has the MP3 option installed and it works fine ??

How about you copy all the files onto a USB stick and get them to me, I'll sort the rest for you  (y)

Fly just had a though ( Ohhh yes sometimes OC gets 'thoughts'  ::) )

Could you send me a link to the Audacity you are using?

This is on going work and it would be better than me having to bother you every time the next load of recordings come in.

I installed what Audacity said i needed and it changed my home page - I couldn't do a system restore, or get into my Google icon on my desk front.

This appears to be the proper download link for the latest version :-

That's the download link from the Audacityteam homepage I posted.
You have to be careful, and make a double check to see what check boxes and such are ticked or not as the case may be whilst you are downloadind and installing some software packages. Obviously one of the packages you/OC installed adds a new home page and probably search engine during the process. It didn't when I installed Audacity.
