Title: Vulcans last ever flight
Post by: simondjuk on September 02, 2015, 09:22:19 PM
Nothing official yet but its rumoured to be 18th October this year.  And another rumour is she will be escorted by 9 red planes plus another Avro.  Just to reiterate, these are RUMOURS.

The weekend before, a planned North/South tour is supposed to be happening but they need £75000 in total funding for it, so im asking, if you go and see her flying please donate - even if its only a couple of quid.

I will post more when its confirmed.

Really sad if this does happen, most of us love to see the Vulcan and others flying over. As ever it comes down to money!

Sadly it's more involved than just money with the Vulcan Pam. I've seen it three times this year, most recently at Rhyl last Saturday and I hope to see it a few times more.

Sadly Pam, this year will be the final year and its not all down to just funding.

BigDave, you can always go to Doncaster Airport for take off and landings, im there most weekends.  Seen her at least 8 times in the past couple of months, with more trips planned.  Old Bawtry Road if you're interested.

Very sad day on its final weekend.

But it will still fast-taxi at Doncaster Airport and you can still go and see her in her new home.

The final guaranteed date is Sunday 11th.

There may be a couple more but its all weather dependent.

I will be there most of the day so if you want to join me, youre more than welcome.

I shall be somewhere watching on Saturday and on Sunday though not at Robin Hood Airport. Huge crowds there may jeopardise any future flight and there have been plenty of warnings against going there - I wouldn't want to be one of those responsible for grounding it before it take off for the last time. Saturday's and Sunday's routes are to be published later today and should give plenty of options for viewing.

The issue is a minority of people park how and where they want regardless of restrictions and thats how its arisen.  Ive always parked on Old Bawtry Road and if possible on the grass verge.  Every time ive been, theres always been access for people or emergency vehicles to get past.

I believe that last weekend 3 people parked blocking an emergency access gate.  The police asked them to move and when the police went, they parked back there again!

Provisional routes have been released Pam, but the finalised routes are due later today. As soon as I have a link to them I'll post it here. The northern route is to be flown on Saturday, the southern on Sunday.

Request from the Vulcan team.
Quote
The roads, villages and availability of parking around the perimeter of Robin Hood airport are very restricted. As the final few flights approach, we must warn you that the chances of seeing XH558 take-off and land will be slim. There are no plans for any displays or repeated circuits over the airfield and the aircraft will come straight-in to land on her return.

The police and emergency services, local authority and the airport are very much aware of growing issues. There is great risk of severe restrictions being imposed on our flight operations if matters persist. We do need to minimise the risk of enforced flight cancellations on the grounds of public safety.

We would request all our supporters try to view XH558 from another vantage point along the tour routes this weekend. PLEASE DO NOT TRAVEL TO DONCASTER.

We would all obviously appreciate your co-operation on this matter. Thank you.

Apparently suffered a low fuel problem around East Midland Airport, so ditched it's planned route and flew directly back to home(Doncaster). Judging by my reckoning, it saved itself about 6 miles of fuel off of it's 3 and a half hour gawd knows how many miles round trip by doing so.
Sadly pi$$ing off many hundreds of people who were waiting to see it fly past  ::)

I was with a hundred or so very disappointed people this afternoon and there were many, many more along the final leg by all accounts. Unforgiveable to disappoint them all and still manage to team up with a helicopter for a photoshoot, the fans who have supported the project for years and heeded requests to stay away from Doncaster this weekend should come first.

Another one I heard was that it was East Mids Airport that put the spanner in the works somehow, it then threw the timing for the rest of the route.
I think someone messed up somewhere. Shame really, many of those that missed it might have been the people donating and funding it for the past few years  :(

Oh dear sorry to hear of the disappointing day people have.
Hubbies elderly friend was going with his son so he will be disappointed.

As for me I didn't get out as planned today.
When my charge got up this morning she wasn't well, so it ended up being a DVD day here.

Have I read there are a few more flights planned though?

Couldnt agree more.  Problem now is people around the Sheffield area who missed it are likely to travel to Doncaster tomorrow to at least get a glimpse of her.  Me being one of them, and before anyone comments about staying away from Doncaster, my friend was there today and so were the police.  I quote from the police officer 'as long as you dont block emergency access routes and park sensibly, theres nothing we can do.  We will have a cuppa though'

I park well away from the terminal building on a side road thats a dead end and it causes no problems to anyone.

Some better news, the sole airworthy UK Avro Lancaster is making its first test flight since the engine fire that grounded it not so long ago. :)

30 minutes notice was given.  Luckily I was off on Wednesday afternoon and was up there anyway meeting up with fellow Vulcan spotters.

There were quite a few people crying and admittedly I had a lump in my throat.  Will post a few pictures later.

Im so glad I went, Martin Withers really gave it some.

It's sad that some missed it because of poor advertising though don't you think?

Or was it deliberate to stop the crowds gathering?
Title: Re: Vulcans last ever flight
Post by: simondjuk on October 30, 2015, 07:47:06 PM
It was deliberate.  A lot of very annoyed people who voiced their opinions on Twitter and Facebook.  As ive said before, its people who block access that have caused the issues.
