A quick photo editing tutorial.

First and foremost, make a copy of the image you want to alter and save it somewhere safe  :)

Download GIMP
http://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/gimp_portable

Load your picture. Menu-'File/Open'
eg.


Click the 'Free select tool'


Click and or draw round the object you wish to highlight using your mouse. Make sure you return to your starting point.
Hold the 'Shift key' on your keyboard to select more than one region.

Then:
Menu-'Select/Invert'
Menu-'Colors/Components/Channel Mixer' and tick the 'Monochrome' box. Click Ok

Your edited photo should now be visible.


Use Menu-'File/Export' to save your image.

Trust you to have software called Gimp!  :))
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
