Derbyshire Times are doing a poll to see if people feel safe in the town centre do you feel safe yourself ?

Here's a few things Iv noticed over the last few months:

People drinking and taking drugs and buying on New Beetwell Street.

People high on drugs walking into the road putting themselves at risk and road users.

Approached by druggies and alcoholics in the market place for money.

People shouting abuse on the top of their voices and threatening behavior to others.

The derelict court house on West Bars is a popular spot for drinking leaving the area coved in blood, sick , rubbish , used needles and damage has been done to building itself.

A couple of fights on New Beetwell Street

The Police claim their is no anti social behavior problems around the town do they go round with their eyes shut or are locals seeing things ? I may not live in Chesterfield any more but I can clearly see their are growing problems on each visit  this will put people off visiting the town, business are already struggling without this problem on top. Clearly 70 % people feel unsafe and the problems need addressing now.

General Discussion / Are you an old ' romantic'?
« on: September 04, 2016, 02:30:15 PM »
Do you still buy flowers for your partner or wife for her birthday? Go out for a romantic meal with candle flicking away on the table and getting merry with the wine? Or splash out for naughty weekend away? Or just end up like me in the doghouse on a regularly basis?

Politics / Low wage economy and zero hour contacts the cold truth.
« on: August 28, 2016, 03:20:12 PM »
So then if like me have a family rent to pay plus bills how can zero hour contacts benefit people like me ? The truth is it can't how can it? Your employer rings you up when they feel fit to do a few hours of work that will not cover your daily living. Unions don't have the power they once did to protect workers rights that are second fiddle as employers have the final say. Notice the rise in pound shops anyone thought why these shops came into been? The truth wages are falling behide prices year on year its a downward spiral that no party wants to tackle. We need low prices to bring down the cost of living its total madness that can only end one way total collapse.

Chesterfield Discussion / The old Queens Park Sports Centre scandal !
« on: August 26, 2016, 04:40:54 PM »
A family member has had leaflet though the door made interesting reading. The article stated that Chesterfield Council have no plans for the now derelict sports centre on Boythorpe Road no money to demolish it no money for asbestos removal no money for anything related to this site. . The new sports centre has come under fire for been dirty lacking a badly pool the main pool been taped off as out of use not good for the fair Council Tax payers of Chesterfield is it? The article mentioned that the fairy newish solar panels on the roof are likely to been heading for the landfill not forgetting the lights are still on in parts . O' dear are friends in the glasshouse haven't done their homework.

General Discussion / The one billion pounds Pennines Tunnel project
« on: August 19, 2016, 09:16:15 AM »
Their are plans to build a huge tunnel starting from North Sheffield to Manchester that will cut though the Pennines hills, the idea been is to cut travel time from 55 minutes to 30 minutes from central Sheffield to central Manchester the project if it happens will cost over one billion pounds to build. Given that government policy seems to be to encourage people to use public transport IM surprised they are thinking of building this given that government are considering a high speed rail link that will connect Sheffield to Manchester both from central stations that would be faster travel times wise. At present their are five proposed tunnel routes been considered and reports are made on environmental impacts plus the pros and cons of each route. One advantage of the tunnel will be for haulage has it will cut down travel times between the cities. Another personal thought on this could a bus run from Chesterfield to Manchester, going back many years I went to Manchester on the X67 but it was a very drawn out journey but if this tunnel was built the journey time would be reduced given the fact that Chesterfield is classed as a tourist town and Manchester has a international airport their could be an demand for a public transport link that business people and tourists alike might consider using?

General Discussion / Summer 1976
« on: August 17, 2016, 07:39:58 PM »
July this year was recorded as hottest on record perhaps a sign of environmental change. I often hear the older end talk about the blazing heat of 1976 how water was rationed and the ground spilt open due to the lack of rain what do you recall of this summer?

York House pub on St.Mary's Gate is set to open on the 26th August as a Artesian pub with the main focus on food and one off foods and drinks. The Abacus closed in January 2016 after the owners went into receivership . Should be an interesting to see how this works out.

Chesterfield Discussion / Hong Kong Olympia bus in Chesterfield.
« on: August 13, 2016, 05:06:17 PM »
Today while heading to Newbold I noticed a very large white painted bus as sods law would have it  I didn't have my camera with me. Any way told my Dad about this bus and he believes the bus is Olympia in make and says they were ran in Hong Kong by Stagecoach in the 1990s. After Stagecoach pulled out of Hong Kong some of the buses were brought back to the UK a notable feature is they have six wheels and have large seating on board. Was this a one off thing or will this bus be seen around the town my Dad itching to get a photo of it ?

General Discussion / Impersonal life
« on: August 11, 2016, 06:53:46 PM »
In my job I see people who have come to the end of their life's journey I often met their relatives who will tell me about their family members life. The one thing Iv noticed is the older the deceased the more fulfilled life they have had. Yet in their day their was no Internet perhaps if the person is old enough might have in WW2 but despite that the overall impression is a life lived. Today its very easy and possible to live life online and never leave the house. We can buy online , bank online, social media, watch the news as it unfolds. No doubt the Internet is a fantastic tool but the other side of the coin  is it can leaves us socially isolated believing the world around us is a dangerous place true some is well placed fear but the media love to make a mountain out of a molehill. We have ATM's now so no need to go into the bank any problems we are given a phone number face to face contact is almost a rare event. Humans need to socialize to keep happy and to keep mental health problems at bay . Just recently I read a news article about an Italian couple who are in advanced years the neighbors rang the Police after hearing shouting and crying was heard. The Police visited the couple the upset had been caused after watching the news it had upset them also they had no visitor's for years the Policemen cooked them a meal and cheered them up such cases like this show how we have drifted apart to the point that even family no longer care for each other. I dont proclaim to have any answers but their is a real danger here that technology is over taking us without us realising it.

Chesterfield Discussion / A polite notice to the towns litterbugs
« on: August 06, 2016, 07:36:34 PM »
Why did the guy throw down his larger tin on the floor when the bin was right next to him? Yes where talking about the guy on Beetwell Street you know who you are. How hard is it to place a tin in a bin? For future reference for this guy drink the contents of the tin then place the said tin in a bin they are to found around the town black in colour generally not hard to find bus stops which you where near to have them in most cases.

Our friends in their glass house town hall on Rose Hill want to demolish the old Queens Park Sports Centre so let's ask the question what was wrong with the old sports centre why did the council waste millions on building a new one? The sports centre was built in 1969 as a swimming bath building later this was extended in the 1980s to included a tennis court and a gym and solar panels were later placed on the roof any extra power would gone into the National Grid and payments for this would have gone to the council given the amount of panels on the roof its fair to say it would have given the council a nice payment. Why didn't the council simply upgraded the old leisure centre why waste millions on building a replacement why does the old centre still have power on given its out of use ? No doubt planning permission will be given to demolish the building after its their building stuff the tax payer option. Why does Chesterfield still vote Labour who clearly like to waste millions ?
