Chesterfield Discussion / The two Wetherspoon pubs in Chesterfield
« on: July 25, 2016, 09:10:56 AM »
Has anyone on here had any trouble at either of the Wetherspoon pubs in Chesterfield? My dad went in the ' Spa Lane Vaults' and a man who he has never seen before or spoken to before decided to get abusive towards my dad who has a heart problem and he his well in his 60s hardly a threat to anyone? Also been told a guy was allegedly threated while waiting to get served at the other Wetherspoon pub in town the guy has only just come out of hospital for cancer treatment  also been told about other alleged incidents. One here will not be taking my family or myself into anymore Wetherspoon pubs.

Old Chesterfield / The Newbold bus war of the 1990s
« on: July 23, 2016, 10:15:02 PM »
My father to put it mindly is a transport enthusiast anyone who has the misfortune to mention the fatal word ' buses'  will have the pleasure of spending hours listening to every detail. However on my last visit to my parents home he mentioned that Chesterfield had a bus war of sorts during the mid 1990s mostly over the Newbold routes the battle was between Chesterfield Transport and Peak Buses who were sort of amateur have a go not a clue bus company. My father said the buses were old and seldom ran on time the company soon fell apart. I vaguely remember them running around Newbold do you recall Peak buses?

Politics / The government wastes £40 billion on Trident missiles.
« on: July 22, 2016, 02:12:58 PM »
£40 billion has been wasted on Trident a weapon that has limited use that was fine in the Cold War era now long passed. Its clear that terrorism is the biggest threat to the West Trident has no use in a war on terrorism ture Russia and North Korea like to play war games with West and America but the truth is Russia needs the West for trade after  the Russian Federation axed parts of the Ukraine and the West placed sanctions the effects was soon felt . North Korea likes to boost about its military power but the country is poor and has limited recouses and much of its military hardwear is outdated. At a time will are seeing massive economic change can we really afford the £40 billion price tag on a weapon that's unlikely to be used if the money was to spent on defence surly it should go to anti terrorist units and training were it would have most impact?

On the ' Derbyshire Time's' website their is an article about Chesterfield's taxi drivers concrens about Coropration Street in the early hours . Their concern is that their should be more Police patrols around closing time as the area has quite a few bars and clubs who  close in the early hours of the morning. Their has been quite a few assaults and a recent case has furthered their concerns about working in the early hours one driver said the drinking hours should be reduced back to the old hours and closing at 11pm brought back where at present  some bars stay open until 5am. One driver went has far to say he didn't believe the town was safe at night and personally would not go out drinking around the town at night. Do you feel safe enough to go out to Chesterfield for a night out until the small hours?

Chesterfield Discussion / Is Chesterfield a dying town?
« on: July 11, 2016, 07:04:29 PM »
Every time I visit Chesterfield something is closing down only Thursday seems a busy day due to the second hand market. I hear grand plans for the town but then nothing  happens I see many rough sleepers dotted about the place and drunks knocking about to complete the scene of hopelessness and dereliction. The Co op project seems to have come to a standstill perhaps they have realized it could end up a white elephant. The town has air of been given up on do the council sit on their hill hoping that some biblical miracle will happen and all will be well . Many of towns buildings look run down notable the ' Victoria Centre' and the Vicar Lane shopping centre is slowly emptying. Is Chesterfield a dying town?

General Discussion / PayPal question?
« on: July 09, 2016, 01:09:52 PM »
I use eBay now and again to buy odds and ends recently I brought an item but did not arrive so the seller agreed to refund it . As I understand it when you buy items off eBay the money goes out of your bank account via PayPal to the seller. Will the refund go back into my bank account or go into a PayPal account, if the money goes into the PayPal account how do you withdraw it . IV looked though PayPal website to be honest couldnt find anything to do with this?

Just recently while browsing the Web for news on Chesterfield I saw something that looked interesting. As you do I clicked on the headline and started reading the article, but then I realized something strange the news article was about a Sheriff' s report on parking problems I thought surely Chesterfield has not moved across the Atlantic has it? Then I noticed Ohio mentioned in the report. Now curious about this other Chesterfield I Googled it to find out more : Chesterfield Township is in Fulton County the population is 1012 a river runs though the town and their is also a shopping mall and a High school. However the town lacks a ' Crooked Spire' or an open market. I wounded if I got on the bus at Dronfield I should ask for a Chesterfield,  Ohio return?

Politics / Iraq war was ' unnecessary' Chikcot report.
« on: July 06, 2016, 05:45:16 PM »
The findings of the Chilcot report have said that sending troops to Iraq was a unnecessary move by Tony Blair also resolved nothing in the long term. I remember at the time much was made of weapons of mass destruction and a unholy union was formed between Blair's government and  the Bush administration and thousands of troops were deployed many didn't come back. No weapons that could have caused mass destruction were ever found over the years many who lost loved ones fought hard to find the turth . The Bush administration were the only winners they got their oil and rid of a enemy who wouldn't play ball with them, the war made the region unstable and saw the raise of terrorists group like IS come into been. Nothing can be done to bring back the victims of this war but Justice needs to be seen to be done. Its clear that Tony Blair took this country to war on lies I think he should be taken to court so that families at least know the truth to know the real reason why their loved ones didn't return home .

Like most towns in the UK the economic down turn has affected trade we have seen many well known retailers disappearer off our High streets over the last few years. If you were in charge of planning what would you do to improve the town? A side note, noticed the old 'Burtons' store now under offer.

When I left Chesterfield in 2002 Beetwell Street bus stop were open and not enclosed by glass. Does anyone know or a rough guess when this change happened and why this was done. On a recent visit to Beetwell Street car park was going down that ramp that leads onto Beetwell Street . I noticed a very old sign on the wall a bit faded it shows the glass shelters and white buses I don't recall this at all perhaps its just a imaged scene I don't know but got me curious that's all ?
