Techie Or Suggestions / MS Publisher
« on: February 17, 2016, 09:43:58 PM »
Can anyone help please?  I've been asked to do a newsletter that will go out three times a year and ideally I need Publisher to do it on.  My desktop doesn't have it so I checked to see if anything is downloadable.  I noticed some free versions but I'm a bit wary so haven't done anything yet.  I'd like to know if anyone has tried these?

Chesterfield Discussion / Just so you know..........

I'm still here.  Not dropped off the face of the earth or anything radical like that.

You know when people say they are so busy in retirement, that they'd never have time to work anyway?  It's all true!!    ::)

My volunteer job is going really well and I have lovely clients who it's a pleasure to visit.

That's all xx

General Discussion / Digital TV Signal dodgy

Can anyone throw some light on what is becoming a real nuisance to us?  Our BBC channels intermittently break up and become pixellated for hours on end.  Another time they are absolutely fine.

Husband bought what he thought was a stronger booster but that didn't seem to have any effect.  We've had a new aerial, and also had that repositioned.  We tune on a regular basis, but are now at a loss what action to take next.

Can anyone offer up advice please?  :-?

Chesterfield Discussion / Who looks up while they are out and about?
« on: February 08, 2015, 09:52:55 PM »
I confess I go about my business when in Chesterfield and rarely look up beyond my own eyeline.  I made a pact with myself a number of weeks ago that I would try and consciously do this chiefly because I know I'm missing out on some wonderful and very curious things.

Well I made a start as you can see,  though I apologise for pic quality.  Taken on my mobile.  One is easily identifiable, but what about the other two?

General Discussion / I get dafter!
« on: January 22, 2015, 12:43:09 PM »
Talk about have a senior moment (or even a blonde one as that applies too) .....  I fettled my kitchen yesterday as it was long overdue.  Skanky mare that I am, it hadn't been done properly since Christmas week!  Anyway, I digress....after the floor washing and the cupboard wiping, out came the dusters and aerosol to clean the worktops.  All duly done, then husband walked past and asked me why I'd had the fly spray out.

"I haven't" I replied.  Showing me the can to prove his point, it clearly said Big D Fly Killer on it.  I thought I'd had the Mr Sheen out!!!

That was only the start of it.........

    1.  Sent some stuff to the charity shop that was meant for storage in the loft
    2.  Poured a full cup of hot coffee away, as I thought it had been stood there till gone cold
    3.  Shut the cat in the sliding door cupboard under the bed, not realising she was in there
    4.  Used deodorant on my hair instead of hairspray, and wondered why it had gone limp!

And like most 'mature' people, I go into a room and can't for the life of me recall what I've gone for.

It's been a funny old week.

How's YOUR week been?  Hopefully not as wappy as mine  ::)

General Discussion / Good customer service
« on: January 16, 2015, 11:07:33 PM »
We all moan about crap customer service in shops, the doctors surgery etc. but I have to name Ironmongery Direct as being absolutely brilliant.

Husband wanted to order some 12mm Cam Bolts but he's a bit rubbish with ordering off  t'internet so I get tasked with it.  I could see why he was having problems as the site kept freezing, so I phoned the order through.  The customer service people were not only very helpful, but when the package arrived there was a bar of Chunky Kit Kat in it to say thanks for the order and sorry for the inconvenience.

Nice touch I thought, and you don't see that very often  :)

Chesterfield Discussion / Photography Course - anyone interested?
« on: December 01, 2014, 10:45:20 PM »
This will be the same course I've been doing for the past 10 weeks.  The tutor is looking to get more people on the course to keep it running.  It's not cheap but its a great opportunity to use studio settings, some really excellent equipment such as proper lighting, Canon DSLR cameras, etc.  This is together with working with a very knowledgeable tutor.  We've processed and developed black and white film too, been out and about in town getting street shots after dark, learned loads about off-camera flash, apertures and shutter speeds.  I thought I knew a fair bit but my knowledge barely scraped the surface.

Its been a really interesting and very varied 10 weeks, no chance to get bored and I've learned so much.

If anyone is interested in coming along starting early January, let me know and I'll pass on your interest to the tutor Matthew Taylor.  :)

General Discussion / Cloud Inversions
« on: November 25, 2014, 10:28:12 PM »
I spent a girlie day out today with my daughter and one of our close friends.  We decided to start at Matlock and mosey along to Bakewell eventually.  On the way out to Matlock we saw the most spectacular cloud inversion across the valley.  It was absolutely breathtaking, and guess what?  The camera was still at home!  I took it to college last night for my course, but took it out of the car so it wouldn't suffer the extreme cold.  I forgot to put it back in (dopey!) I'm so cross with myself as I've since seen lots of pictures of todays inversion on Facebook.

Here's a link to the post of my chum Chris Gilbert who had the sense to make the most of the opportunity  https://www.facebook.com/361709836793/photos/a.10150303126981794.339395.361709836793/10152551898876794/?type=1&theater.

I won't forget again!   >:(

Is anyone going to this? (Next Saturday, Proact Stadium).

In case you're not aware, it's Neil Anderson's night for the launch of his latest Dirty Stop Out's Guide, this time for the 1970's

Mr Gert and I will be there with a couple of friends but it would be nice to say hello to anyone from the forum if anyone's going.

 :) :)

Chesterfield Discussion / Sheffield Road closure this weekend?
« on: June 06, 2014, 12:47:20 PM »
Does anyone know if parts of Sheffield Road are likely to be closed due to the Tom Jones concert and the subsequent music festival thing?  I have a friend who lives close by the football ground on Sheffield Road and he's heard rumours that the closure is a possibility, yet he's had no information telling him this.

I'm just asking on his behalf really as we don't seem to be able to find anything out on the council website. Don't know where else to look.

Thanks for any info.
