Chesterfield Discussion / Re: This is all that is left.
« on: January 16, 2016, 12:47:08 PM »
I think someone posted a wider view of this on Facebook OC.  It's outside JYSK on the Lordsmill Street end of Markham Road.

Back in the day, JYSK was more or less the site of Hipper Street School where I went.  I don't recall the gatepost being there then.  I think it's been salvaged from somewhere else and placed there for interest.

Old pic of Hipper school yard is attached here.  This is the part of the yard that was on Markham Road and approximately where the gatepost is sited now.

Chesterfield Discussion / Re: Snow alert for tonight

Now I've retired I don't have quite the same dislike of snow that used to stress me out when I was working.

If it comes, let's hope its not much and won't disrupt life for long.

Take care out there everyone  :)

Old Chesterfield / Re: Bradbury Hall
« on: January 13, 2016, 10:12:50 PM »
Hello Pete,
I played in the Bradbury Hall for a couple of weddings, that would have been around 1963-ish. The dance floor was horrendous, with knots in it like the Himalayas. I also lived almost directly across the road (with my parents) for probably five years or so in the mid-late '60's. Having not lived in Chesterfield for thirty years, and being a very infrequent visitor, I was totally gobsmacked to learn (just now) that it's not there anymore.

Thank you for the opportunities to look at the pics, Pete, it's a valuable job you do. On this occasion I might have preferred to remain in the dark, I suppose. Many thanks again.

Hi there 2322hoover.  Welcome to the forum  :)

LOL....you mean like a night at Sticky Vicky's?  >;

Daughter wants to find Morgan's Bar which apparently is Neptune's in the Benidorm series.  I can see us rolling round Benidorm on bar crawls - for research purposes of course  ;)

I haven't posted in ages (due to various difficult circumstances) and am honestly shocked to hear that Nicheuk has passed away.  We didn't always see eye to eye, but it was good banter and I do feel saddened that he's not here.

We love Mrs Brown's Boys at our house!  Have the DVD's and have been to the stage shows too.  Cracking good night!  So cleverly delivered due to the ad libbing.  There's much more of it in the live show than on TV.

And as for Benidorm - new series on tonight and I can't wait.  Primarily because me and daughter are off to there on Sunday.  We shall, of course be seeking out all the classy and cultural experiences ;-)

 :)) :)) :)) :)) :)) :))

I hate to say this, but I'm not surprised!  Guilty or not, I think these investigations will be happening  for a long time to come.

Chesterfield Discussion / Just so you know..........

I'm still here.  Not dropped off the face of the earth or anything radical like that.

You know when people say they are so busy in retirement, that they'd never have time to work anyway?  It's all true!!    ::)

My volunteer job is going really well and I have lovely clients who it's a pleasure to visit.

That's all xx

Mr Gert and I are also patients at Holywell Medical Group.  While I understand there have been many cause for complaints, our experience like Big Dave's hasn't been a problem.  We have not had to wait long for appointments and I don't recall any kind of misdiagnosis for either of us.

My only gripe is that I applied several years ago to be on the patient panel when they were asking for patients to apply.  I was invited to one meeting which I explained I wasn't able to attend, and since then there has been no contact.  I asked again twice and even wrote a letter (wow yes, a proper letter!) to which I've never received a reply.  I admit this made me very cross and I've given up for the time being.  Maybe when they've got themselves sorted out, I'll try again.

I never think of going to The Galleon, so I might have to give it a try sometime soon .  I've been to Soulville many times and have had a great meal each time.  I like the music too.  :)

Old Chesterfield / Re: Ever heard of Hockley. In Bolsover ??

These are great pictures, Fly.  I've never heard of a Hockley in Bolsover, but I don't originate from this end of the area anyway, so its  not that likely.  Have you Facebooked Mick Shannon? He might know.
