classic cars?
« on: November 20, 2014, 07:28:45 AM »
Did  we  ever  think  that  the  cars  we  have  owned  in  the  past,  would  become  such  classics  and  worth  a  few  bob.

My  past  collection  includes ......

1960   Jaguar  S  series,  paid  £60  in  1970,  kept  it  3  months,  "too  thirsty".
1959   Austin  Healey  3000,  paid  £70  in  1970,  kept  it  6  months, "an  animal".

Please  don, t  ask  how  much  they  were  sold  for,  as  I  soon  start  to  cry.
Do  what  you  can,  while  you  can!

Not sure my past cars are classics but I've seen similar models at shows

Cars 1 and 2 were Austin A40's bought off my scrap dealer dad as runabouts.  I think both lasted less than a year, running on semi bald tyres, one had a gaping hole on floor on the passenger side so boyfriend had to ride with his feet on the dash when it was raining.  The other had a gaping hole in the front wing.  Before the days of MOT's I hasten to add.

Car 3 Mini and sub frame went after a few months

Car 4 Hillman Imp used to jump out of gear which meant me driving with one hand while holding it in gear with the other.  Head gasket eventually blew so it was ta-ra to that one.

Car 5 Morris Minor - probably the only one with no problems or hassle.  Had that one a couple of years.

The rest were husbands company cars so hassle free motoring from that point.

My daughter has a beautiful Jag classic that's undercover in her garage and sadly never sees the light of day now.  I wish she'd sell it to me!

No  matter  what  the  make  or  model,  cars  will  eventually  become  classics,  don,t  know  about  some  modern  ones  though,  that  many  models  about,  they  all  look  alike.

Very true, as my old bangers were to prove, now seeing them at shows.

You're right about the modern ones though.  They do all look alike at first glance certainly  :)

Triumph Renown Razer-Edge - I owned one in the early 1970's.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

That's just a photo I filched, never took a picture of mine.

I've let a few prestige registrations go in the past, NVY725, 978UNU simply for being non date specific (the latter since changed hands a few time) and TWJ5F for being low in digits.

Must admit I made a mistake a few years ago.
Ex Father in Law had a Morris Ital
Number plate was JON 255W
He offered to sell me the car for £250
Number plate was worth that on its own.
Anything between £600-1000 now for any JON plate

I'm a drunk I go to the pub
