Entertainment / Tupton History Society next meeting March 3rd 2026

This presentation is a fitting ending as it's a local lads presentation of his hobby which is exploring Derbyshires Old Mines.
The land where the building is which we use was once used by the coal board !
Tupton and indeed Derbyshire was a mining County.
So - the last email I had from Gary was to inform me he would be showing a short video and bringing some artifacts from the groups collection.
This sounds fascinating and I'm really looking forward to it.
March 3rd 2026 at 7.00pm Doors open at 6.30pm

Please try and come to our last one. I didn't see you come in at the last one so missed having a natter.
We have a committee meeting coming up and the generally feeling of our last one was to put on a farewell buffet - so hopefully that will happen.
As I've said our treasurer needs to stand down due to ill health and his wife is also quite poorly.
No one to take over that job.
If I fell ill and couldn't do the secretaries job there's no one to stand in. As a back up I share all communications with the chair person so in the short term it would tick along.
But - we wouldn't have enough bodies on the presentation night to run it.
It's how it goes these days with groups isn't it!

Even though they re-surfaced part of it the rest is still shocking.
Not 100% but I seem to think it is down for a resurface.
If I can dig out where I've read that I'll post it!

We are closing down.
Unfortunately due to lack of people coming onboard to help to run this and our ages as we are all retired people we have taken the decision to close.
March this year will be our last presentation night.
Our treasurer is needing to retire from it due to his health and his wife a committee member is also too unwell to come anymore.
So two down.
If I fall ill there's no one to take over my role as Secretary.
However our website will be kept running and if you have never logged into Tupton Local History Society web site its worth a look as there's a lot of information and photographs on the site.
Meanwhile our next and last presentation which I'll be advertising is by a local lad who will tell us about the group he is in which goes down old Derbyshire Mines.
So a fitting ending to a Society that has brought so many good speakers into Tupton as well as some lovely people.

What a Dustbin mouth Trump has!
Insulting the Euro troops even Starmer has at last found his voice and straightened his backbone a bit.
We know he's made statements in the past about Europe and some I've taken to be a way of shaking them up a bit because lets face it Europe has become complacent in some ways so maybe I thought a method in his comments sometimes.
However he's now sunken to Gob Shite Status - he's lost the plot!!

They are wasting money not saving it!
We went around half of the village yesterday it's not too bad but several need attention. If I have the time I'll do the rest today and put them all through tomorrow ready to plop into their emails Monday morning

Tesco is moving into the M&S shop in the town centre.
My thoughts - they will need a high footfall to keep overheads going!
We only shop every two/three weeks so need a car park close by as it's generally a large shop.
We certainly couldn't manage a big shop where they are plonking themselves.

Well done! My youngest brother passed away in the Hospice and my other brother and his family did the sparkle walk for two years to help the Hospice.

I asked them if I sponsored the name a Star would the Hospice get all of the sponsor money. The answer - they will get some of it-
