OK, simple, who's got the best looking garden/s
Our front garden:
Can't wait to concrete the lot, parking on our street is getting silly :o
(http://www.taxiweb.50webs.com/hardwick/100_1935.JPG)
Our back garden. It's 25m long.
Mid right side, flat top conifer with nesting Robins.
Far left side, pampas grass stump, pear tree, and Pink Lady apple tree behind it.
Our homemade effort of a green house is hidden on the immediate left by the brick out houses.
I'll have a look for a photo. Know I've got one somewhere ;)

I like this thread - will post on it later with photo's (I hope) :)
-
Well our back yard is dominated by big machines demolishing the old football ground, so not much worth photographing it at the mo.
Here is a reminder of what goes on in it... Lazy buggars ;)
-
what i might do is take another when the flowers bloom will look better. And dont mind the crap at the top looking to remove that at some point.
-
Will do the same Emmz,.
The Pampus Grass usually grows to about 7ft tall during the summer.
We leave it till this time of year before cutting it back because all the small birds radge it for nesting materials in spring.
That's if there hasn't been a significant snow fall that decks it.
-
Hey Em - is that why you don't post when it's raining. Your computer is outside? ;)
-
yup in that tiny shed thing you see up the back there :D Damn must choose another hideout
We have birds raiding our garden of grass/spiders/worms at the mo its great to watch
-
Now I've had daylight to take pics I'll post some that actually is my garden

Lovely flowers Slacker, I used to have plenty of free growing garden flowers, sadly it's mostly lawns now with flowers in pots.

Photo Buckets acting the ned now, so will try again with some more later >:(
-
@ Old Cruser - as I said it's the other set of pics that's REALLY my garden ;) , the other was a stopgap til it was light enough for photos
-
Mines a bit bare at the moment Slacker apart from the top left side where the rhodies are flowering and broom bushes just starting to bud, has to be easy now my asthma and hay fever has seen to that!! Very therapeutic though is gardening (if you enjoy it - if not it's hard work!!)
More photo's from me later when I can find them!! :)
-
Mine has to be dogproof so no ground-level beds any more

Mine has to be dogproof so no ground-level beds any more
@ Slacker - Sad to lose all that lovely colour isn't it, I had lots of herbs in the top end of my garden as well :(
-
OC, your garden makes mine look a bit of a dump ;)
Here's our greenhouse, if you can call it that LOL
(http://www.taxiweb.50webs.com/greenhouse.JPG)
-
All garden work has been done by me :)
Front garden
(http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k148/simondjuk/12052012878.jpg)
Side garden looking towards front of the house
(http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k148/simondjuk/12052012877.jpg)
Back garden - thats a pond filter by the way which normally isnt on the side of the pond, its just cos its broken and leaking
(http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k148/simondjuk/12052012876.jpg)
-
@Fly. we used to have a greenhouse, do you grow tomatos in it? Gardens depend on how much time you can give them Fly --- and how much you enjoy gardening ;) We are practically retired and enjoy gardening - so maybe more time than you have :)
@ Simon --- lovely garden - you do well to keep it looking so neat

Thank you. I like being out there. The front will be getting changed this year. Soil is crap cos its a fairly new house so its all the fill that they levelled it with.
-
@OC Tomato's and cucumbers usually. Got 8 tomato plants grown from seed this year.
Getting a couple of cucumber plants from a friend.
Currently got busy lizzies, labelia, sweet peas and runner beans on the grow in there.
-
Back door step, yes Pete. I know the door could do with a lick of paint ;)
Sweet peas in the sink. These are going up to the top of the garden later,
then will be growing little gem lettuces in there. Good crop last year, nice sunny corner.
Don't ask. Just Our_Lass and her usual smiley grin LOL
And the garden gnome that lives on the window sill ::)
-
@ Fly --- good to watch them grow then eat them isn't it, do you grow peppers as well? I have done in the past. Watch the Bizzie Lizzie's Fly they were diseased last year through the country, watch for white marks which look like powder on the leaves - destroy them and throw the soil away if that appears. I love them but had to disinfect all my tubs which had them in last year. :o
@ Simon, don't blame you Simon be a bit rough for getting good results although it looks good to me.
-
Pear tree left, apple tree right. Bird bath and another feeder both used regular.

All we have is a lawn full of dandelions front and back with a solitary cowslip in each - carefully mown round in each case.
-
@Fly - great photo's, looks as if you enjoy your gardening.
@Dave - We don't see much of cowslips these days, I love them used to pick them from the fields when young --- feed em and nurture em Dave ps at least you have some colour with the danelions ;)
Back into the garden to finish putting the bedding plants in! :)
-
I drove down the M1 to junction 15 today, masses of cowslips on some of the embankments.
-
Yes some areas seem to still be thriving, whilst others are have none. I don't think we are allowed to pick them now are we, along we bluebells :(
-
Planted some summer bulbs in tubs and troughs earlier and just put some pansies and mimulus in to replace the failures (about 15% didn't grow). Looks as though all the rain we've had lately had rooted the bulbs/corms - also the compost, as well as being very wet, was bl00dy cold!! :(
Anyway, depending how things grow, I'll post a few pics of my gravel quarry - sorry - garden as and when.
It's the first time for almost 13 years that we've planted anything as, when we had our 'mad' dog, she'd knock everything over. Still miss her every day though :'(
-
Shame about the bulbs Alsatian, it was cold yesterday when that wond was blowing.
I have held my bedding plants back for awhile because of the cold and wet weather - not much better now though is it! :(
-
Not looking good for the plums this year but the cherries don't look too bad.
-
Jealous now, you've a phone box :'(
-
Like it
-
That's not a phone box - that's a Mark II Tardis...
-
I drove down the M1 to junction 15 today, masses of cowslips on some of the embankments.
I didnt think they could get that close? Imagine if one escaped on to the Motorway, burgers all round... ::)
-
I didnt think they could get that close? Imagine if one escaped on to the Motorway, burgers all round... ::)
;D ;D ;D make mine a sirloin - well done! ;)
Corr you have Dr Who staying with you? Nice one! ;)
-
Was hoping that the tits would use this box for nesting this year, but sadly they are using the traditional one down the garden instead. :)
-
@ Poppy - shame - maybe next year eh ;)
-
Jealous now, you've a phone box :'(
And a post box :o
Goes off to sulk . . . . . . .
-
We've got a Peony in the front garden that's flowering now.
The flowers are so big, they are drooping to the floor.
Lack of water ??
Here's one in a vase in the kitchen, no use laid on the lawn.
-
What a lovely colour Fly - so vibrant! I watered all my plants last night everywhere is very dry it's hard to believe we had all that rain not so long ago. The hot sun won't help either.
-
My mothers are doing the same, she says your supposed to stake them LOL
We had an egg plant slowly taking over a border, so we dug it out and put it into a large planter up the garden.
It's crept out of the planter and spread around the paved area at the top of the garden.
-
Lovely aren't they Fly - they help keep the weeds at bay as well when the fill up the garden ;)
-
I had those in the front border of a previous house and one of my neighbours asked why I was planting weeds!! :o
They look lovely when flowering and, as OC states, they fill up any spaces helping to keep weeds at bay (they also grow in poor soil) :)
-
Lawns cut, hedges chopped.
Tip for cucumber plants. Keep the plants stalk's dry, or they rot. Water the roots via a little pot ;)
We haven't got a plant for the other tub yet :)
Tomato plants planted in bigger tubs.
Some other bits and bobs for hanging baskets tubs etc.

My word you have been busy, hope we get to see it all in full bloom.

I've hunted all through my computer and can only find this one of my cat taken in the garden. I must have more somewhere.

Wouldn't know Fly --- you do though ::) ::) ;)
It's a 'Flame bush' don't know real name for it, I've had it years it was given to me as a gift. ^-^ ^-^ ^-^ ;D

I think its' proper name is 'Pieris' - but don't go shouting down the garden "have you seen this pieris", someone might mis-hear you!!!! Yp
-
@ Alsatian ;D ;D ;D
Yes that's right it is, just couldn't think of it earlier.
-
Planted some mixed lettuce seeds in the sink on the back door step.
Our_Lass says I've gone a bit overboard with the slug pellets.
-
Awww what a cutie, what's his/her name Gerty?
My girl cat, Polly. She's Queen Bee in our house. I seem to be her lady in waiting! ;D
-
@ Fly "in the sink on the back door step" I'm scratching my head with that one?? Re the pellets :)) I thought it was a mini lawn luv :)) :))
@ Gert Polly looks like a "Lady" as well - I hope you serve her well. :)
-
I've gone a bit overboard with the slug pellets.
Didn't realise slugs were available to plant as pellets!! 8) When we planted our tubs/troughs SWMBO did the same with our slug pellets - you couldn't see the compost for the pellets!!! :D
-

The lettuce plants are coming through already :o
-
@ Fly --- i've seen the light I've seen the light!
Luv that sink :)
-
£150 it yours :))
Minus the lettuce. You're welcome to the slug pellets :-X
-
we have many shoots now in the garden and the clematis has started to bloom, will take a few pics later and show yer
-
@ Fly - plenty of slug pellets thanks --- and will have the lettuce --- you can keep the sink ;D
@ Emmz I love clamatis not got one in my garden now but used to have. Lovely time of year as we watch the flowers grow and bloom isn't it :)
-
@ Emmz I love clamatis not got one in my garden now but used to have. Lovely time of year as we watch the flowers grow and bloom isn't it :)
I've got two varieties, one has a small light coloured flower that covers our fence (and next doors!) and is lovely but, it's an early flowering variety and has stopped flowering already :(
The other is a purple large flowering variety but is really old and is past it's best, as it doesn't have many blooms on it nowadays :(
As for the rest of the garden (esp my Lavateria), it's looking very dashed with all this wind and rain! :(
-
If this heavy rain carries on Alsatian it will rot the bedding plants - mine are getting very soggy as well
-
Here we go then
Clematis
(http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q176/emmz1984/Photo0782.jpg)
Honeysuckle plant
(http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q176/emmz1984/Photo0784.jpg)
and others (dont know names)

Lovely Coloured Clamaitis Emmz, Honet Suckle takes me back to my younger days when we had one smell lovely don't they - never had one myself though
-
Next to the last one is a poppy - of which I find almost impossible to grow in my garden for some unknown reason >:( - and the last one is a nasturtium which the leaves, I'm led to believe, are an eatable salad plant.................... although I'd check 'em for caterpillars before you do!! ;)
So envious of your clematis ::)
-
:D
The clematis has done really well over the years and seems to get bushier with each year too.
The poppy which i did have a bit of an idea on seems to come up each year though i cant remember planting the damn things. but have 2 or 3 of them now.
Ill post more pix once the other plants have flowered which i think is sometime next month.
-
I thought that looked like a poppy but wasn't sure the other I thought looked like geranium leaves but obviously not. Careful with the poppy though Emmz.
-
Anybody know what this plant is ?
-
It looks like a ceanothus :)
-
We've just been googling and decided it's a California Lilac, same thing I think ;)
Cheers Poppy :)
-
It was one of the open afternoons at Park Hall Gardens (a place we have discussed before) today. I thought it was quite impressive not having been before. Too many pics to put on here I'm adding them to Facebook www.facebook.com/acslack (http://www.facebook.com/acslack)
-
Whatever it is it's very pretty - not good at plant names
-
here we are then
Clematis

honey suckle

and this one
(http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q176/emmz1984/Photo0962.jpg)
-
Personally I think our Clamatis is going to pass away this year :(
It's just not, 'doing it', if you know what I mean.

It's just not, 'doing it', if you know what I mean.
Ours (which is the same as Emmz plant) has been looking rather sickly, insofar as it has very few flowers on it, for the past couple of years - although to be fair it is over 20 years old! :o
I keep thinking that I'll just give it one more year, and so it goes on!
-
Well, our time is up. They are going to take down the wall between us and what's left of Saltergate football ground.
I've a feeling it's going to be another "end of an era" so I did a quick video so me and my rabbit can watch it at our leisure...
I'll post what's left after the demolition men have finished tomorrow. :(

Who's that sat on the bench at 47-52 secs :))
-
Here's another, what's the red trailing flower, right of pic.
-
Possibly Verbena, these are in the hanging baskets on Knifesmithgate.
-
Looks a bit like a geranium but the leaves are different
-
There are geranuims in the baskets as well q?
-
??? are they breeding ::)
-
Only time before I got a shot of one of the squirels at close range :)

We've got one of those too :)

-
I hear it's on 40 Parkies a day. Got to look after the wildlife you know - Kate Humble told me that the other night.
-
That reight looks like your back yard. ::)
-
That's because it is my back yard - or, as we like to think, Chesterfield's answer to Springwatch. LOL
-
Ok - here's some pics of my garden, although with all this cr@p weather the plants haven't grown as much as they should :(
Also, in future years I think I'll stick to buying plants - rather than bulbs.

-
Nice little garden mate.
Thanks Pete, unfortunately with all the rain and lack of sunshine it's become a grey/green themed garden, rather than a colourful one. Ah well - there's always next year (isn't there?)! :)
-
Yeah, there's always next year - start saving up for some water plants... lol
-
Our back yard now the demolition team have done their worst... :o
(http://www.ichesterfield.co.uk/images/open-garden.jpg)

Nice shot Pete, I bet it feels strange having a view ;)
-
I would have preferred a view of the Mediterranean... :(
-
4 week tomorrow I may have one ;)
-
Thinking of turning my garden into a snail sanctuary.............do I need planning permission? :))
-
Snails, now I can help you out there.
Our_Lasses auntie's garden is infested with them.
I'll drop you a couple of carrier bags of them off, now I know where you live 8)
Top man, snail sanctuary ;) Do you want some snail feed delivering too ?

We have a new fence now, courtesy of demolition team - and I spent this afternoon removing crappy old tree, looks twice as big as before.
Now time to get the bamboo in and rebuild what's left of the rockery.
Three cheers for sunshiny day.. :)

Agreed Cchris, we just do it for the fun ;)
Not sure if anybody has noticed the shower curtain behind the first cucumber picture I posted today.
The plant wilts if we leave it in direct sunshine ???
It's coming on a treat now it's sheltered q?
-
At last! I have a garden pic. Yours all look lovely, and certainly a testament to your hard work. Mine's still like work in progress, but it'll get there.
-
Looking very nice Gert, funnily enough yesterday I spent some time emptying some of my troughs as the plants were dying off. :(
Next year I will buy plants rather than bulbs.
-

Thanks Alsatian. I'm hoping it will look even better before long. And funny you should say that about your troughs..... I moved some scented stocks from the garden into a trough, and now the perishing things are sulking big style. I guess they didn't like being disturbed. Shame really as they were doing really well, but I decided I wanted that space for something else (as you do!). Mistake to be learned from. :(
-
My troughs/hanging baskets and planters aren't doing as well this year either, wonder if it's the rain? :(
-

Think it must be 'cos when I emptied the troughs most of the bulbs were quite wet and soft. :(
-
At last, four bamboo plants go in to the new corners of the back yard - only taken 5 weeks! :-[
Tip for anyone tempted to use bamboo; wait until the end of the season. Plants that were going for £30/40 during the summer, just bought for £15 each. :)
Anyway, here's a picture of our new-look backyard. :)
-
You little tinker you!! ;)
-
It's looking really good, Pete ::)
Is there a price reduction on Pandas at the end of the season too? It would be a shame not to get a couple with all that bamboo around. :P
-
>> a price reduction on Pandas
Yep. And on Puntos and Bravos too... :))
-
....and on the very weekend that I empty my tubs - we get the start of an Indian summer! >:(
-
Is that a teddy bear there in the woods Pete ::) ???
-
It's amazing how the removal of the footystand makes your garden look a lot longer ;-)
-
All done with strategically placed mirrors... :))

I really do need a new camera.
Slightly off topic but, walking through t'park t'other day and there was a heron at the side of t'lake! I took a photo of it with my phone, intending to post it on here - when I uploaded it to my laptop it was just a dot in the distance!!!
-
This was taken in Graves Park earlier this year with my camera, and the pics been zoomed in.
I wouldn't have even attempted a shot with my phone.

Can't really tell but it looks as if it may be a sparrow hawk??
Speaking of camera's Fly, daughter has bought a new one with her birthday monies and has actually tried and found the 'turning the camera upside down to be a good idea and works - thanks!! :)
