in October last year, we did an all inclusive with friends in Fuengirola. Not only did it rain all week, I found I hated AI, and also not fussed on Fuengirola either. The hotel entertainment was like a working mens club and while that's OK every so often, seeing it every night was too much. Had it not rained like a monsoon we'd have been out at other bars or theatres.
So, for this year, we're trying to choose between Norfolk or Devon. It will go with the toss of a coin methinks! :-\
-
Wow Gerty, it was absolutely minging down there in August. That's why we went further north.
It's also why were going earlier this year.
Fuengirola's not so bad. The train line takes you to the rest of the Costa Del Sol.
Though I must admit, that's like a chocolate fireguard when it's sipping it down :-(
-
Dunnit! Booked with Mail tokens to Weymouth in July. Booked a Premier caravan too - no bog Standard for me. I know how it live it large 8)
-
Nice One! Don't forget to share some picy's gerty
-
Hope this is just teething problems. Not like we'll be flying on one ;)

Scares me sugar puffs when I read stuff like this watched it on the news this morning --- our lives in THEIR hands
-
It's a big company, a 'little' news spreads a long way. Usually for the worse :(
The news corps love a story.
Tesco burgers, Jessops etc.
Post something on here in the 'Chesterfield Discussion' thread, and watch the forum visitors count rise.
It's fed through to Twitter and FaceBook ;-)

OK. Yet again I'm wrong. This story is starting to look a little worse.

Will do Pam. Hoping to have a couple of nights in the Cotswolds on the way back ;D
-
I have a friend who lives there - very pretty part of our country I believe - enjoy 8)
-
Got the email with our E-Tickets today. Just printed them off.
5 and a bit week. Come on C:-) :))
-
We are off to hope cove this year somewhere down cornwall way...
Never been before though OH has.
-
Cornwall's lovely, long way, but worth it. Might be going ourselves later in the year.
Just had a leaflet about local coach trips to Scotland delivered today. Looks interesting ;)
-
We're off to St Ives in August - bloody brilliant down there. :)
-
Called at a chippy in St Ives for dinner the other year when we were down Cornwall. Beautiful ;)
Our_Lass and her daughter(7 month pregnant with our grandson) ;)

-
We're off to St Ives . . .
Do you happen to know the man with seven wives that lives there?!
-
As I was going to St Ives =1
I met a man with seven wives
Every wife had seven sacks
Every sack had seven cats
Every cat had seven kits
Kits, cats, sacks, wives.
How many were going to St Ives?
1
-
ST Ives Pete never been but am told it's lovely - photo's please on your return :)
-
Have finally booked two two night breaks with Tesco vouchers, going to Liverpool and Newcastle.
-
Once spent half a day in Liverpool. Never been to Newcastle :)
-
Being an ex miner that's something you'd never do - it'd be taking coal to Newcastle!
-
Ha ha ha ;)
Only went to Liverpool to collect funds for the miners strike in 1984 ;)
-
We have stayed before at both places. One a few years ago was a bit sad and the other we have cruising friends who live there so if they are at home we will hopefully be able to meet up with them.
-
Just glad we fly in March. Looks like more tax to be loaded onto flights in April.

-
We loved Dubai but extremely hot! Back there again soon hope your sister saves us some sunshine Fly
-
Roll on Friday :) Up and away !
Robin Hood Airport is currently running an unaffected service which is a good.
No more snow please ;)
-
We're doing a few weekends away in the UK in the Riley (Shropshire, Northumberland and Scotland) and perhaps a week in Malta, haven't been there since 1953 when I lived there as a nipper.
Some friends left for two weeks on a narrow boat yesterday - rather them than me.
-
Me on a narrow boat. Erewash Canal. Circa !985.
The trendy one on the right is me. Just a bad photo, it rained for a week.
The guy on the left is now one of Leicester's top Criminal Law Barristers. My Uncle ;)
I'm sure I've posted this pic before. Scuse me for repetition.
-
Yes I have seen it before Fly - handsome chaps you were to. Dave OK love Malta although it's changed so much since my
first visit in the early 70's. I always said I wanted to retire there.
-
Have a friend that used to live on Gozo - after a holiday a few years ago I nearly didn't come back...
-
It's been 60 years since I was in Malta, I wonder if it's changed....? Apparently I spoke fluent Maltese by the time I left, can't remember a word now :(
-
You will definately see a difference then.
On our first visit there was much more expanse of land than now - more buildings being built, apparently the government were loaning money to the locals to build their own homes from what I remember, lovely white stone dwellings they were.
Apparently to go and live there we would need a considerable amount of savings (I can't remember the amount).
Last time we visited was for the day whilst on a cruise which is a few years ago.
Blue grotto, and the Marsaxlokk fishing village was un spoiled though.
Just love the place 8)
-
Thanks OC - I'm hoping to find the flat we used to live in overlooking Grand Harbour (Dad was in the RN). I remember so much about the place: going to school, aged almost 4, and having to take an egg for lunch which the nuns would boil - one day I broke mine, the beaches, getting lost, fishing, the buses, flying out there in a BEA Viking and having to land at Nice to refuel, throwing up over my teddy bear (air sickness) - happy days...
-
Flying tomorrow afternoon. Pete, step daughter, and a Rottweiler looking after the house.
Hope you don't meet the step daughter, she's worse than the rottie ;-)
-
Enjoy Fly 8)

Strange what memories we retain Dave. Mine of Malta well the first one actually was on the aircraft as we dropped for landing and thinking they had taken us to the wrong country. Not what I expected at all. Small white stoned properties with TV ariels taller than the dwellings they were on. I wonder if Valletta still has these?
We stayed with my aunt her husband was in the airforce back then and took my 17yr old brother. he enjoyed diving in the clear waters with the local lads and I have a picture of him with a squid on his arm (yuk). First night I thought there was a war on as I was woken by what I thought was gunshots - it was just a village close by who were having their fiesta. Very hot in summer isn't it and the locals were very friendly - didn't the british call them Joeys? (yes I know it's a baby Kangeroo :) )
Hope you get there Dave and share your findings with us
-
Grrrr. 30 minute delay. Now fly at 3.30pm.
-
Apparently the pilot and some of the crew are stuck in traffic following a road traffic accident near Doncaster. We can't go till they get here. how ever long that will be, nobody knows.

Had a text from the rotweiller, apparently he checked our fridge freezer LAST weekend but thought he'd not spoil our holiday by telling us it had failed big time until NOW. Also being a rotweiller, he didn't think about moving all the defrosted meat etc out of the house. Whoopee !!
Can't wait to get home tomorrow. !!

I m going to Tenerife in 12 days :)
-
I'll be in turkey in 4 days! 8)
-
@ Fly sorry to hear that - it's the last thing you want to come home to :(
@ Espana - enjoy your holiday and don't forget to bring us some photo's back to look at. 8)
@ Alsatian - hope you enjoy your holiday as well and don't forget to take some photo's to post on here 8)
-
@ Fly sorry to hear that - it's the last thing you want to come home to :(
Just spent the best part of 3 and a half hours cleaning out the freezer, and doing a bit of shopping. Turns out, me, or Our_Lass, had switched it off before we went on holiday. Don't ask how, we don't know either !!
Soooo we're back, all safe and sound ;)
-
Good holiday Flyboy?
-
Pretty good mate, pretty good ;)
Visited a few places we'd been to before, nice to see some are cleaner and more developed.
Not flattened and rebuilt ::)
Eg: Mijas, lovely little town, it's now got a botanical garden with viewing points looking over the Costa Del Sol.
Got some great shots. I'm sure I'll be posting a few soon ;D
Also visited a couple of places we'd not been to before.
Eg: Marbella, golden mile, and town. Puerto Banus, millionaires playground, even had a meal there. McDonalds are everywhere :P
-
Sounding like a good break for you both. Pity you didn't bring the sun back with you. :(
-
We only paid for a second class ticket for it, should be here for the weekend 8)
-
cheapskate
::)
-
So the fact it cost us £1500 to go there and try and bring it back doesn't count :))
-
Not at all you are inconsiderate Mr fly bynight
-
We only paid for a second class ticket for it, should be here for the weekend 8)
. . . . . . . and here it is - right on time! Thank you Fly ;)
-
8) 8) Gosh yes we have an orange sighting in the sky - quite scary actually.
Thank you Mr Fly bynight - I retract my post about you being inconsiderate :-*
-
Just got back - absolutely fantastic! Will post some photos and more info later
-
Welcome back, thought it had been quiet ::)
:) ;)

It was a special holiday to celebrate my 60th birthday next month, the hotel was absolutely fantastic! The staff were so friendly and efficient and the food was amazing! We had a welcoming bottle of wine and bowl of fruit on arrival and, on the Sunday, we returned to our room to find that they'd put towels on the bed in the shape of a heart and swans!! Room service then came with another bottle of wine and a birthday cake!!
In the restaurant they did ice sculptures to compliment the food, I even tried the foreign stuff!!
As well as the hotel they have poolside villas with their own pool and bathing facilities.
The weather was warm in the day but the nights were a good deal cooler, it's safe to say that we'll definitely be going back! 8)

The hotel and food looks very tidy :)
Met up with Pete today, he mentioned my lack of holiday photo's, he thought I'd flood the forum with them :D

lovely photo's looks a lovely place - did you see me waving to you from that ship ;) Pleased you enjoyed it especially as it was a special birthday :)

Lovely photo's Fly - if you are running a 'free taxi' can we book for for our next trip to Southampton :? :? :? ;)

8) well had a brilliant holiday my pc and photobucket are peeing me off at the moment >:( so picys will follow later.
Crap flight as usual to Dubai only takes six and half hours but it left about nine thirty pm and landed in Dubai at seven pm their time, so we lost a nights sleep. However we were taken to a Hyatt hotel for breakfast and were on the ship for eleven am so managed a snooze before room was ready at two pm.
Lovely ship and staff.
We had the mandatory muster drill before setting sail and then were told we were to have anopther drill the following day called a 'safe haven' drill as we were to sail through the Gulf of Aden - Somali pirate waters.
Having sailed through before when we had a twenty four hour around the ship watch by guards we weren't too bothered.
Gulf of Haden
Having had the drill and knew what to do if the alarm came we just got on with our cruise - the next morning I was in the pool temp was 96F so cooling off was welcome. We already ready knew that for three nights all outside decks were closed and outer lights out until we got through the Gulf of Aden. Things must have changed since our last trip through there!
The announcment was made by the first female captain we have ever had - 'Safe Haven, Safe Haven, Safe Haven boomed over the tannoy. everyone looked blank at each other - the staff were running round looking worried.
We needed to leave all open decks and go to the staircases and landings away from windows. Not an easy one on this ship as it was from the Vision Class and so full of windows :-?
A member of staff was telling another member he had seen the ship 'zig-zagging' which was what we were told would happen should another boat get to close. As we left the pool side the only person left on the deck - was a child!! on a lilo in the pool :-? The staff were frantically trying to get him to hear them as he splashed around. - where were his parents!!
Anyway the whole thing lasted about fifteen/twenty minutes or so I think and then the captain explained that two boats had come far too close to the ship - but she said 'now I think they will understand'???
At the captains question time a male passenger spoke and told of what he saw at two pm out on deck whilst having a smoke (we had left the GOA by then). Seems he watched a boat come up very close to our ship and 'large black cases' were being off loaded from the ship - the captain I was told didn't give a straight answer as to what they were. We can I suppose draw our own conclusions - and I do know that the ship had security staff who could use weapons :-X Anyway the rest of the transit through the GOA was peaceful but extremely hot.
We didn't get off at the Egyptian ports having seen what we want to see in that part of the world. One would think that with the antiquities they have they would be amongst the richest in the world - not true though is it!
Alexandria we were told has got 'worse' wouldn't have thought possible!!
We were told by a staff member that he went to buy toiletries using a taxi. He was told that there are very few police as they have had their money cut so many have left. Who protects me asked the staff member - taxi driver shrugged showed him a knife fastened to each side of him and a gun under his seat - I have to protect myself he said!
Suez Canal
Really enjoyed the transit and we were on the opposite side to last time so a different view. Didn't leave our room, had breakfast and lunch on the balcony using room service - Jumping up and down like zebadee taking photos.
Will post some picys later. 8)

It got a little worse during that last night raining in Barcelona when the got off the ship the next day. Local chap said they had had 3 days of rain :-?
It's always the same the second week on cruises . Thepool side and outer decks begin to resemble a 'seal 'colony' as the food intake begins to show ::)
Hubby decided to give up his old drummer work and become a life guard even though I reminded him he couldn't swim!!

So can I Fly
NOT!! :))
Should have seen the old drummer on the second week of hols - he threw his belt away cos the strap had had it. Got out another - and couldn't fasten it even on the first hole :-?
He was jumping up and down whilst breathing in trying to fasten it :))
Then--- he bent the buckle :)) :)) :))

4 night stay in a chalet at Southport, booked it this morning. Doesn't look a bad little town. Any body been ?
Southport flower show is also on when we are there, so might give that a bash. Never been to anything like that before :)
-
My daughters been a few times for a holiday, she seems to like it
We are off to liverpool for a couple of nights
-
£120 each for 4 nights bed, breakfast and evening meal. We think that's a bargain ;)
-
Curtesy of tesco ;D
-
Just arrived back from our short stay in Liverpool.
We have really enjoyed it, - something different from the bucket and spade breaks - well hubby cries if i don't pack them ;)
Quite a lot to see and do actually.
We stayed in the Novotel on Hanover Street, short walk from the docks and shops.
Weather has been great.
Will post a picy or two later.

-
Might have a day in Liverpool whilst were up that way. Our_Lass's never been.
The thinking is, if the weather's nice after our 4 nights in Southport, we might book into a Premier Lodge or similiar for a few nights to make it a weeks trip.
-
Sounds like a good plan Fly.
The museum of Liverpool of very interesting and free!
There was some interactive things and I pressed a button to hear some diary entries from a dock worker back in the 20's - 'I don't want their money (in reference to the money he would get for being out of work for a week) I just want an honest weeks work with an honest weeks pay' - sounds familiar that!
If you get to the 3rd floor it's music/ comedianne's of the past.
Also went on the yellow Duckmarine the driver and his assistant worked very hard at entertaining us as we were first taken on a sight seeing tour around Liverpool - then headed for the Albert Docks where we went into the water with a splash - as we were not wet - they both put on silly goggles and took out large water guns - yes we got wet :)) The children loved it. The tour around the docks was also very interesting.
So much to do and see Fly.
Didn't get up to the viewing Tower but next time eh -----
-
We're thinking of Tunisia late September/early October 8)
SWMBO and me took my Sister to Scarborough for the day today - arrived there at 9.30 this morning and it was a lovely sunny day, but there was a cool breeze.
Only problem was that a seagull thought she looked such a good target sat in her wheelchair that it couldn't miss an opportunity and promptly sh1t on her!!! :o
To top it all, it then went and found where I'd parked my car and sh1t on the roof of that too! :o
Anyway she thoroughly enjoyed the day, which consisted of walking (or, in her case, riding) drinking coffee and eating ;) :) 8)
On a separate theme I've never seen such bad driving coming back on the motorway, numerous drivers undertaking, lorry driver reading his (text message?) mobile, tailgating (not for much longer).
-
@ Alsatian :)) :)) that's one of the minuses of going to the coast :))
We took a short break in Mablethorpe a few years ago and sat on the sea front steps - a Donkey strolled up to daughters wheelchair - took a chomp of her joy stick and we thought swallowed it. However we found it a short distance away obviously been spat out it was complete with teeth marks :)) It still worked once pushed back on the wheelchair
-
I WILL get around to putting my Liverpool photo's on the pc eventually but have heard this morning that another of the yellow Duckmarines have sunk in Liverpool :-? We were told during our tour that one had sunk earlier this year -

-
Your probably right OC.
We're now settled into our Blackpool hotel room. Knackered.
We got here at 11.30am but couldn't check in till 4pm. So we walked the full length of Blackpol and back ;)

That's the second time this week I have been told that - just had someone I know return yesterday who ended up with blisters on their feet - enjoy anyway

Back home tomorrow ;)

Majorca (Cala San Vicente) for me on 19th September - bring it on! 8) 8) 8)
-
Just got back from our first 'cruise'! 8)
My cousin and her partner live in Dorset and have a narrow boat, which they've been sailing(?) around in since May. They've been round Macclesfield/Stoke area this week so travelled to see them yesterday and had a nice three hour trip on the Macclesfield canal. :)
Seriously - Majorca (Carla San Vicente) in three weeks time! :-)
-
Bet you can't wait Alsatian. I always think the last month drags terribly
Enjoy it when it arrives 8)
-
@Alsatian, Just noticed the date. Have fun ;)
We're off to Cornwall in the morning, back Monday 8)
Hoping to go to the Eden Project and a couple of other places whilst we're down there.
Also, apparently Premier Inn charge £3 a day for wifi, worth paying instead of using my unreliable mobile wifi dongle :)
-
@ Fly - Enjoy 8)
-
Will do OC. I'll be online anyway ;D
-
Got here in 5 hours, really good journey :)
Got 'FREE' Wifi for 30 minutes a day. So have bought 3 days worth of vouchers :)
Half hour of internet is no use to me 8)
-
Not bad for wifi in a hotel :)

Went to the Eden Project today. £23.50 each to get in, was it worth it. :-X Glad we went though ;)
I've posted some pics on my facebook account.

Lovely photo's Fly - I think I may have thought twice about paying that amount to go in though, is the time unlimited once you are in?
Picked good weather weekend as well it registered 23C in the car yesterday
-
Decided to eat at the 'over priced' place next door to the Premier Inn we're staying in.
(We have been eating at the Weatherspoons up in the town, way cheaper LOL)
Walked in, collared a table, I walked to the bar to order, but the lass wasn't sure if the table we had picked was already booked.
She asked another member of staff who informed me that that half of the venue was now closed, if we could wait 15-20 minutes he would have a table for us. We walked out, so crisps and chocolate for tea tonight :-X
BTW, we walked into the venue at 7.30pm :-?

eeep fly thats bad :(
Just realised whilst reading through the posts I never updated on our Jollies earlier this summer.
Twas Hope Cove down in Devon, was absolutly gorgeous. Weather was fantastic. There isn't that much to do in the little village itself however it was easy enough to entertain ourselves on the beache(s) there were 2 beaches not massive but decent sizes. The sea was clear so wasn't too frightened to go for a swim! Saw some lovely little fishies...
Went to the local pub for lunch and some drinkies with the bro and sis in law. Laura celebrated her 5th birthday there too, most of her day was spent collecting snails.
Had a trip to Salcombe to see a boat race and to have a looky round also a lovely place to visit! The cottage we stayed in was great. OH and I shared a room which was ensuite. FIL and step MIL shared a room with ensuite, bro in law had a room and Laura shared with sis in law! So very roomy and could easily accomodate the 7 of us.
So all in all I reckon we will return to this lovely little place again :)
view from room :)

Got back lunchtime today and had fantastic time. Weather fabulous all week, although it was pretty unsettled week before we went.
Hotel very good and food excellent, resort very quiet and picturesque, only downside was that , although Pollenca and Porta Pollenca were both only a 10 minute bus ride away, they only ran at 1 1/2 hour intervals!
Will post some piccies when I get the laptop out.
-
Glad you had a nice time Mr and Mrs Alsatian ;)
Thinking about Majorca next easter. Some where close to Palma though :)
There's not enough close by for us to see up Alcudia way. Not without travelling as you pointed out.

Pleased you enjoyed it - look forward to photo's 8)

Ok got some piccies:
1. The 'front' and entrance of the hotel - which, as it was built into the side of the bay, was on the top floor!

eeep fly thats bad :(
Just realised whilst reading through the posts I never updated on our Jollies earlier this summer.

More DuckMarine woes on the Thames today. 30 people rescued as one caught fire.
So that's why they weren't on the Albert Dock, have they transfered them to London after the two incidents in Liverpool.

I think they ought to have a serious think about what they are doing - has someone got to die before its sorted?
-
Oh dear, so pleased that didn't happen when we were on the one in Liverpool earlier this year - Quite agree Mr Pete, it's time they took them out altogether
