Costa Concordia
« on: September 16, 2013, 08:57:24 AM »
As they are going to try and get this ship a float today I will be watching with interest to see if they manage it. it sounds quite complicated.
It's the first time they have ever tried to do this on such a large vessel - the man power behind it is huge.
If they do manage to get it on the floating bed I'll bet it will boost tourist trade in the area.

I thought this was going to be quite a site to see - but it seems it's going to take three or four weeks at this rate...  :(  ;)  :)
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

It's a big challenge and I don't think they know if it will work

I've been following the live coverage on the Guardian website.

Watching paint dry is more exciting ;)

Latest from the web is it is proceeding OK, but very slowly, into the night - maybe into tomorrow.

Which is a bit of a bugger as I have eaten all the popcorn...

Will throw you my bag over Pete seeing as I've missed it.

This USA Naval shooting is dominating all the news - all still very unclear but they have closed the airport as well - no one knows why

This is a time lapse video of the vessel being righted:

It's been very impressive how they have righted this vessel, unless you have actually stood at the side of the docks and seen the sheer size - it's difficult I think to comprehend the sizes of some of them.
Well done to all concerned

I think they've pulled off a remarkable feat  :)

I was impressed, never having been on such a vessel, when they said it was bigger than the Titanic.

But, TBH, it looks like a giant shoe box, not a ship.

When we are quoted sizes and 'longer than ex ammount of football pitches' it's still not the same as seeing one.
If I say the top decks are higher than roof tops it may give some idea what it's like to stand on a top open deck and look down on some of the ships.
Vast vessels inside with many bars show lounge etc etc we wonder how they manage to float!

I found this link very informative about the whole incident. The cost is immense.

Looks like they have found the remains of the two missing Italians  :(
Good for their families I suppose, can now lay them to rest.
