Politics / Tax avoidance
« on: February 13, 2015, 12:10:37 AM »
So here's an interesting question.
Mechanic fixes my car.
says the bill is £100 but if I don't want an invoice he will only charge me £80.
I've saved 20%
Millionaire owes the IR £1m in taxes.
His accountant finds various loopholes meaning he only has to pay £800k.
We have both broken the law but most people would be guilty of the 1st but up in arms about the second.
Is this hypocrisy in action again?

Politics / intersting couple of articles
« on: February 07, 2015, 06:46:06 PM »

Someone has copied a link to an in house ASLEF magazine on one of slackers political Facebook threads.

http://www.aslef.org.uk/files/142045/FileName/1502aslefjournal.pdf

Couple of interesting articles.

One about Maggie using MI5 to spy on the miners during the strike. My reaction to that one is No S*** Sherlock I'd have been amazed to find out she hadn't!

The other is an interview with the shadow transport secretary.
Two things I find interesting. Firstly he makes it clear that although a public sector company would be allowed to compete for routes there's no chance of re-nationalisation.
Secondly whilst he tries in the article and in the bio to big up his working class routes it's clear he's another labour politician who has never had a real job.

Politics / How bad is it when politicians/activists don't want to debate?
« on: January 30, 2015, 09:05:08 PM »
I've been having an argument with a former colleague of mine today via Facebook. He's a full time trade union official, party activist and labour county Cllr in Nottinghamshire.
I've been asking him all day (as I repeatedly do to slacker as well) to convince me why I should vote labour rather than keep telling me why I shouldn't vote Tory (or UKIP for that matter). His eventual response was that because I wouldn't blindly accept his red is good blue is bad reasoning I didn't actually WANT to be convinced.
Strikes me as a slightly strange platform on which to run an election strategy!!

Here's an amusing question for you.
On May 7th who will decide which candidate Chesterfield elects to Parliament. Will it be those who vote Labour or those who vote Lib Dem?

Anyone (Slacker?) know what they are doing on the roundabout. Seemed to have built a road straight through it??

Politics / Milliband has obviously learnt nothing?
« on: December 11, 2014, 05:51:35 PM »
Makes a speech today saying that sensible cuts are going to be made in order to reduce the deficit. Hurrah!!!
Then he declines to say what those cuts will be!!!
Obviously learnt nothing from the last election where the public got disillusioned with no-one giving detailed answers.

Politics / Milliband's Speech
« on: November 13, 2014, 07:33:17 PM »
If you are a strong effective leader do you really have to make a speech to say so? Or would you expect your actions to have already proven it?

And if you say that you are going to start exposing the failures of the government and the myths surrounding UKIP isn't that just an acknowledgement that you haven't actually managed to do it so far despite that pretty much being your main job?

Was it me or did Milliband's speech actually expose his weaknesses rather than highlighting his strengths.

General Discussion / Name Calling
« on: November 11, 2014, 11:05:18 PM »
Would appear that someone objects to name calling.
Well just for the sake of balance and objectivity.
1. I'm not Spineless. It doesn't bend and twist as well as it used to but it's still there.
2. I'm not an idiot
3. I'm not a lapdog
